Oasis reunites for world tour

In the UK fans are getting ready for the summer of Oasis.
The 90s and noughties superband has reunited, long after blowing up in spectacular fashion.
Their tour, starting this week, will pack stadiums around the world, including Australia – that's if the band's leaders, the famously combative Gallagher brothers, can hold it together.
7.30's Norman Hermant reports.

Two Spice Girls ‘will not attend Mel B's wedding this weekend after fall out'

Two Spice Girls will not be attending Mel B's wedding this weekend, according to reports. Neither Victoria Beckham or Geri Horner will be among the guests when Scary Spice Melanie Brown ties the knot with Rory McPhee at St Paul's Cathedral in London. The MailOnline claims that Victoria, 51, won't be in the country, so will miss out on the wedding. A source said: 'Victoria has long standing plans out of the country and she simply can't be there. 'She adores Mel, they get on really well despite their paths going in opposite directions. It's a real shame. 'There is no issue between them, they haven't fallen out. It's just one of those things.' Meanwhile Geri is said to be absent because of her tense relationship with Mel. The two women had a pretty big falling out when Mel B revealed that she had an intimate relationship with Geri when the band was starting out. Mel made the confession while she was being interviewed for Piers Morgan's Life Stories in 2019. Geri was stunned and upset by Mel's admission, and even more saddened when Mel allegedly did not issue an apology. The Sun reached out to Mel B's representative, but they declined to comment. Snubbing galore This is not the first time this year that the Spice Girls have been divided. Neither Victoria or Geri attended Mel's 50th birthday either. In May, Mel celebrated the milestone birthday when she threw a big bash in Leeds. Both Emma Bunton and Mel C were in attendance. But despite the supposed tensions between the group, there is hope for a reunion of sorts. Reunion plans The Spice Girls' former manager is in talks for them to reunite as avatars just like ABBA. The Sun revealed in May that Simon Fuller pitched the idea to the band — as he did with the Swedish pop superstars. It would see holograms of Geri, the two Mels, Emma and Victoria playing their biggest hits. Victoria, who was not part of their 2019 tour, was said to have suggested she would agree if the others did.

Oasis streaming soared at staggering rate after reunion tour announcement

Oasis streaming "went up by 750 percent" in one hour after their reunion announcement. The Don't Look Back In Anger hitmakers play the first of their highly anticipated Oasis Live '25 tour dates on Friday (04.07.25) at Cardiff's Principality, but the decision to get the band back together had proven lucrative even before tickets went on sale. Sarah Mansfield, head of creative and retail marketing at the group's label Big Brother, told Music Week magazine: "Streams went up 750 percent in the hour following the tour announcement and there were over 11 million Oasis streams on the day the tickets went on sale." Before the announcement last summer, it's reported that only three of the band's songs had made a significant dent in streaming. Their back catalogue's popularity on Apple Music and Spotify is said to have been far below acts like Coldplay and Imagine Dragons. However, the impact of the reunion tour goes behind digital music, with vinyl also seeing a "staggering" boost. Sarah added: "The uplift we've seen since the tour announcement has been staggering, vinyl particularly; it's mad how much it sells. "It's also really important to Noel and Liam... they still view the album as a physical product." This week, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher revealed plans for a special 30th anniversary reissue of (What's The Story) Morning Glory? featuring newly released unplugged versions of classic tracks. The deluxe version of the album will be released on October 3, a day after the Britpop icons released their seminal second record in 1995, and will feature unplugged versions of Cast No Shadow, Morning Glory, Wonderwall, Acquiesce and Champagne Supernova. The new acoustic tracks have been produced and mixed by Noel Gallagher and Callum Marinho from the original master recordings at Noel's Lone Star Sound studio in London. The deluxe album features new artwork shot by the original sleeve designer Brian Cannon and new sleeve notes. Exclusive coloured vinyl formats will also be available to fans, including the indie record store exclusive Cast No Shadow inspired Crystal Clear 3xLP, a HMV Morning Glory inspired blue marble 3XLP, an Amazon exclusive Wonderwall inspired sepia marble 3XLP and an official store exclusive Acquiesce inspired neon orange 3XLP. All formats will include the 2014 remastered version of the album together with the new bonus versions.

Australia's arts council issues apology, backtracks after sacked artists reinstated as Venice Biennale reps

The head of Australia's arts funding body has backtracked and issued an apology to two artists who were sacked as representatives to the Venice Biennale, before being reinstated in a major backflip. Artist Khaled Sabsabi and curator Michael Dagostino were initially selected as the artistic team to represent the Australian Pavilion at the internationally-renowned 2026 arts festival held in Venice, Italy. But in February the pair were controversially dumped by Creative Australia after questions were raised in parliament about previous artworks by Mr Sabsabi. Following a review released on Thursday that found 'a series of missteps, assumptions and missed opportunities' in the decision-making process the artist and curator were reinstated. Opposition arts spokeswoman Claire Chandler cited the artworks in parliament, and hours later the creative agency had backflipped on the pair's appointment. One of the works showed footage of the September 11 attacks spliced with a clip of George W. Bush saying 'thank you very much'. Another contained depictions of then-Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Creative Australia acting chairman Wesley Enoch has since apologised to Mr Sabsabi and Mr Dagostino for the 'hurt and pain that they've gone through in this process'. He acknowledged the 'personal cost' that Mr Sabsabi and Mr Dagostino had paid in this saga. Mr Enoch reiterated the board had gone through a 'very rigorous process' which found reinstating the pair was 'the best option'. One former board member, sculptor Lindy Lee, quit the board at the time in protest of Mr Sabsabi and Dagostino's sacking. She told the ABC because of Mr Sabsabi's background his artwork was misinterpreted as supportive of Nasrallah. Coalition Arts spokesman Julian Leeser has been critical of the decision to reinstate Mr Sabsabi, telling RN Breakfast he thought Creative Australia had made 'the wrong decision' the reinstatement. 'The representative of Australia on the world stage should reflect our values and to reinstate this artist as our representative at the Biennale and to give them taxpayer funds I think flies in the face of those values,' he said. Mr Leeser did not make clear which values he thought Mr Sabsabi and Mr Dagostino did not represent, however he went on to reference the artists' works as having a 'history of presenting terrorist leaders'. He cited declining social cohesion as a reason that 'particularly at this time, this is the wrong person to be representing our country'. Mr Sabsabi has consistently maintained that his works do not promote terrorism – a view that was backed by Federal Arts Minister Tony Burke following the board's about-face. 'The report has shown that these works have not been regarded in any way, as promoting those involved with terrorism – the artist has made the same thing clear. 'If anything, the body of evidence says that these works are the exact opposite of something that could be seen to promote terrorism. 'Bearing that in mind, it makes complete sense that Creative Australia have recommissioned Khaled Sabsabi and Michael Dagostino. Their decision has my full support.' For their part, the artist-curator pair have accepted their reinstatement and said they will 'recommit ourselves fully to this project'.
