‘When we have provided a facility, it has to be ensured that it works as well': Gujarat CM's message to officials
The CM was addressing a public gathering in Kalyanpura of Santalpur taluka of Patan district where he had arrived to inaugurate or lay the foundation stone of various developmental projects worth Rs 110 crore.
The CM said, 'Our budget gets increased and proportionately, we keep on doing developmental works as well. If we put emphasis on quality in whatever work you get done, there will be fewer complaints in monsoon than (we) get (currently).'
He further said, 'When we have given a facility, it has to be ensured that the facility works as well. There has to be an effort in that direction as well… you cannot compromise.'
The function was also attended by the local MP, MLAs and district office bearers.

HM Amit Shah directs formation of Central team on Himachal natural disasters
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed the formation of a multi-sectoral Central team given the frequency and intensity of natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh, an official said on Sunday. In a recent meeting, HM Shah was briefed about the increase in the frequency and intensity of cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides and torrential rainfall, causing widespread loss of life, damage to infrastructure, livelihoods and environmental degradation. He immediately ordered the constitution of a multi-sectoral Central Team comprising experts from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) Pune, a Geologist, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, the official said. In the wake of floods, flash floods, and landslides during monsoon 2025 in different parts of Himachal Pradesh, the Central government has already deputed an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) in advance, without waiting for their memorandum, for on-the-spot first-hand assessment of the damages, said an official statement. The IMCT is visiting the affected areas of the state from July 18-21, and as many as 13 teams of NDRF are deployed in the State for rescue and relief operations. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government stands firmly with the states in times of disasters without any discrimination, said the statement. In this direction, a high-level committee chaired by HM Shah has already approved an outlay of Rs 2006.40 crore to Himachal Pradesh for recovery and reconstruction in areas affected by disasters like floods, landslides and cloudbursts for 2023, and has also released the first instalment of Rs 451.44 crore on July 7, it said. To support the affected people, the Central government has already released the first instalment of the Central share of Rs 198.80 crore to Himachal Pradesh from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) on June 18. The Central government has also provided all logistical assistance to all states, including Himachal Pradesh, including deployment of requisite National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, Army teams and Air Force support.

Andhra Liquor scam: YSRCP MP Midhun Reddy produced before court
Last Updated: Vijayawada, Jul 20 (PTI) YSRCP Lok Sabha member PV Midhun Reddy, an accused in the alleged liquor scam was produced before Vijayawada ACB court on Sunday, said a police official. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Reddy on Saturday in the alleged Rs 3,500 crore liquor scam during the previous YSRCP regime. The SIT probing the alleged liquor scam grilled Reddy for several hours on Saturday and followed it up with his arrest at around 7:30 pm in Vijayawada. Earlier this morning, SIT officials took Mithun Reddy to a government hospital in Vijayawada, where doctors conducted medical examination. 'The medical team found no health complications; hence, he was presented before the court as per legal protocol," the police official told PTI. Bhagwant Mann-led AAP govt in Punjab creates protective shield for children, reuniting families via DNA testing
AI image CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has launched 'Operation Jeevanjyot 2' campaign — a movement that aims to lift children from the streets and place them into schools. In the past nine months, 367 children have been rescued from Punjab's streets, intersections, and religious sites — children who deserved to be holding books but were instead forced to hold begging bowls. The Mann government launched this campaign first in September 2024. Of the 753 rescue operations conducted so far, most targeted areas where child begging and rag-picking are common, such as railway stations, marketplaces, temples, and traffic signals. A total of 350 children were safely reunited with their families, while 17 were placed in childcare homes as no trace of their families could be found. So far, 183 of these children have been enrolled in schools, and 13 younger ones have been admitted to Anganwadi centres. Additionally, 30 children from economically weak families are receiving financial support of Rs 4,000 per month to continue their education. Every three months, District Child Protection Units check whether the children are attending school or have returned to the streets. Still, 57 children have gone untraceable during follow-ups — possibly because they had no permanent address, or worse, they may have fallen victim to exploitation again. These concerns have led to the launch of Project Jeevanjyot-2, this time with a more stringent strategy. Now, DNA testing is being conducted on adults found with children to verify if they are the real parents. As part of this, 21 children were rescued during 17 statewide raids conducted on 17 July — 13 from Mohali, 4 from Amritsar, and the rest from Barnala, Mansa, and Faridkot. In Bathinda, 20 children have been identified for DNA testing. From a legal standpoint, anyone found forcing a child to beg or involved in child trafficking can now face five years to life imprisonment. A parent who repeatedly subjects their child to this cycle can be declared an 'unfit parent', and the state will take custody of the child. Local administrations, police, doctors, teachers, social organisations, and volunteers are all working together with the government.
