'They trust others more than India's own ministers': Amit Shah gets up twice during Jaishankar's speech; slams opposition for disruption in Lok Sabha
Amit Shah
on Monday lashed out at the opposition in the Lok Sabha for repeatedly disrupting external affairs minister
S Jaishankar
's speech during the debate on
Operation Sindoor
, accusing them of lacking faith in India's own cabinet ministers.
Speaking in the House, Amit Shah got up twice to strongly object to the disruptions and accused the opposition of showing more faith in foreign narratives than in the words of India's own cabinet ministers.
"If an oath-taking cabinet minister is speaking, we should listen to him. They have more faith in some people outside India than in their own minister who is speaking on record," Shah said.

He further added, "When their speakers were talking, we listened patiently.
Tomorrow I will inform you how many lies have been told by them. But even those lies — we accepted them like poison with calm. Now they cannot even listen to the truth."
"Mr Speaker, you should offer them protection. Everyone can comment from their seats, that's not difficult. But when such a serious subject is being discussed, and a senior minister is speaking, does it suit the Opposition to heckle him from their seats? You must urge them to maintain decorum or else later, we will also not be able to manage our members,' Shah warned.

The home minister also said, 'I have an objection that they (opposition) don't have faith in an Indian Foreign Minister but they have faith in some other country. I can understand the importance of foreign in their party. But this doesn't mean that all the things of their party should be imposed here in the House. This is the reason why they are sitting there (opposition benches), and will remain sitting there for the next 20 years.
'
Despite the disruptions, external affairs minister S Jaishankar continued his remarks, reiterating India's 'zero tolerance' approach to terrorism and listing concrete steps taken after the April 22 Pahalgam attack. These included:
Suspending the
Indus Waters Treaty
with Pakistan
Shutting down the Attari Integrated Check Post
Cancelling SARC visa exemptions for Pakistani nationals
Declaring Pakistan's defence, naval and air advisors persona non grata
Reducing the Pakistani High Commission staff from 55 to 30
Jaishankar added, 'It was important to send a clear, strong and resolute message after the Pahalgam attack. Our red lines had been crossed, and we had to make it very apparent that there would be serious consequences.'
He also explained that India's diplomatic focus was on shaping international opinion, particularly at the United Nations Security Council, where Pakistan is currently a member.
'Our goals in the Security Council were two: to get an endorsement for the need for accountability, and to bring to justice those who perpetrated the attack. I am glad to say that on 25th April, the UNSC condemned the terrorist attack in the strongest terms,' Jaishankar said.
He added, 'The Council affirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organisers, financers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.'
The 16-hour-long Operation Sindoor discussion has been marked by sharp exchanges and fierce political posturing, with national security, diplomacy, and internal political divides all taking centre stage.

Donald Trump says he heard India may stop buying oil from Russia: 'Good step'
US President Donald Trump on Saturday said that he had heard that India might no longer buy oil from Russia, though he acknowledged he was not certain about the claim. U.S. President Donald Trump waves as he arrives at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown, Pennsylvania, U.S., August 1, 2025.(Reuters) "I understand that India is no longer going to be buying oil from Russia. That's what I heard, I don't know if that's right or not. That is a good step. We will see what happens," Trump told ANI. Trump's remarks come days after his tirade against India for buying Russian oil and the White House's decision to levy 25 per cent tariffs on all exports to America and an unspecified additional 'penalty' for purchasing Russian energy. In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticised India for maintaining the world's highest tariffs and 'obnoxious' trade barriers while continuing to buy Russian military equipment and energy during the Ukraine war. On Friday, external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal defended India's procurement of energy and defence hardware from Russia, saying New Delhi and Moscow have a 'steady and time-tested partnership'. 'India and the US share a comprehensive global strategic partnership anchored in shared interests, democratic values and robust people-to-people ties. This partnership has weathered several transitions and challenges,' Jaiswal said in response to several questions regarding Trump's tariff policy. No Demolition Without Pucca Houses: CM
New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta issued orders on Friday to all departments, including the railways and Delhi Development Authority, that no slum will be demolished in the city unless its residents are provided with pucca houses. Gupta said Delhi govt would amend the existing policy on JJ clusters, if required, and even move court to protect the housing rights of slum-dwellers. She added that nearly 50,000 flats built years ago for the economically weaker section (EWS) in outer areas of the city under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission would be renovated for slum dwellers. "Slums in Delhi are an inseparable part of the national capital, with residents living there for decades," Criticising the opposition for using slum-dwellers as a political vote bank, Gupta asserted her govt was making sincere efforts to ensure their rightful recognition as residents of Delhi. While the govt claimed that the clusters were demolished on court orders, AAP accused BJP of going back on its electoral promise of "jahan jhuggi, wahan makan" and said govt could have moved court to stop people from being rendered homeless. Gupta said regular meetings were being held with various departments to provide permanent settlement to slum-dwellers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Emergency Generators in Speyside: (Prices May Surprise You) Emergency Generator | Search Ads Search Now Undo She added that the EWS houses were never allocated, rendering them uninhabitable over time. "The chief minister has announced that these flats will now be handed over to slum dwellers under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban. DUSIB and DSIIDC were allocated Rs 732 crore for housing, which remained unutilised and was to be returned to the Centre. Central govt has now approved their use for the renovation of these dilapidated flats," said an official. Gupta accused the previous govts of treating slum dwellers as a vote bank. "These settlements neither have drinking water nor roads, pavements, proper drainage and sewage system," CM said. AAP Delhi convener Saurabh Bharadwaj said CM and her party were "bluffing" the slum dwellers for many months now. "If Rekha Gupta is actually serious about what she is saying, she should ask central govt and its agencies to withdraw the cases against these JJ clusters in the high court and Supreme Court," Bharadwaj said. "On one hand, these agencies are going to the courts against poor people; on the other hand, they are not even providing them with any alternative places to live," he claimed.

Telangana aims for 50% green cover by 2047 in guv's climate push
1 2 Hyderabad: In a strong push for climate action, Telangana governor Jishnu Dev Varma has called for a focused three-pronged strategy to tackle climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGEs). The governor emphasised that such an approach would deliver significant benefits to the economy, the environment, and society at large. Echoing the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has united the global community on climate action and continues to lead efforts both domestically and internationally, the governor stressed the urgent need for coordinated action across key sectors. Jishnu Dev Varma underscored the importance of involving all relevant departments, including energy, transport, buildings, rural and urban development, industry, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in advancing renewable energy and accelerating energy efficiency initiatives. "Energy efficiency alone can contribute over 40% in mitigating climate change impacts," he noted. He further emphasised the need for institutional initiatives to drive policy and grassroots implementation of energy-efficient technologies. The governor also commended the concerted efforts of the ministry of power, particularly through the bureau of energy efficiency (BEE) and energy efficiency services (EESL), as well as the ministry of environment and climate change, for their ongoing support to state govts in deploying global best practices and clean technologies. He specifically praised Telangana's initiatives to engage women in the adoption of solar energy. As part of ongoing outreach efforts, A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, southern regional media adviser to the BEE, along with senior officers from EESL, briefed the governor on key developments in the field of energy efficiency. The standards & labelling (S&L) programme, which accounts for 60% of India's energy efficiency-related CO₂ reductions, is a vital component of India's commitment to cut one billion tonnes of emissions by 2030. Recognising the importance of institutional energy leadership, the governor recommended that EESL conduct a comprehensive energy audit at Raj Bhavan and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad, to assess the feasibility of transforming them into model energy-efficient campuses. He urged close coordination with the energy development agency for effective implementation.
