Reconsider Satyajit Ray Home Demolition, Can Help With Repair: India To Bangladesh
The century-old property in Dhaka's Horikishore Ray Chowdhury Road belonged to Ray's grandfather, the renowned litterateur Upendra Kishore Ray Chowdhury.
Citing the property's landmark status, Bengal's cutural renaissance, the Government of India said, "It would be preferable to reconsider the demolition and examine options for its repair and reconstruction as a museum of literature and a symbol of the shared culture of India and Bangladesh."
The statement added, "The Government of India would be willing to extend cooperation for this purpose."

Earlier, Banerjee appealed to the Mohammad Yunus government in Bangladesh to take steps to preserve the ancestral property. She had urged the Indian government to intervene in this matter. She said the demolition of such a place was "heartbreaking".
"News reports reveal that in Bangladesh's Mymensingh city, the ancestral home of Satyajit Ray's grandfather, the renowned writer-editor Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury, steeped in his memories, is reportedly being demolished. It is said that the demolition work had already begun. This news is extremely distressing. The Ray family is one of the foremost bearers and carriers of Bengali culture", Banerjee wrote on X.

Upendra Kishore Ray Chowdhury's house was being demolished to make way for a new semi-concrete structure. It was formerly used as the Mymensingh Children's Academy but had reportedly fallen into disrepair after years of neglect by the authorities.
The house was built about a century ago and after the partition of 1947, the property came under government ownership.
Md Mehedi Zaman, Dhaka's Children Affairs Officer, told Daily Star that the house had been left abandoned for 10 years. and that a semi-concrete building with several rooms will be built to start academic activities.
He said the demolition is being carried out with necessary approvals, as the state of the building posed a serious risk for children.

Patna: The BJP has taken a swipe at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over his criticism of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. BJP state spokesperson Neeraj Kumar on Wednesday questioned the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, asking whether he wanted "bhoot-pret" (ghosts) to vote in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. The BJP's Neeraj claimed the Congress and RJD wanted even the dead to vote. "The names of those who have died in the last 22 years are still present in the voter list. Should the ECI not remove their names? Does Congress want infiltrators and illegal citizens to vote too? Congress wants to win elections with the help of fake voters," Neeraj alleged. "Article 326 makes it clear that only Indian citizens have the right to vote. But Congress is constantly opposing constitutional institutions," he said. BJP ally HAM(S) national president and minister Santosh Suman also criticised the RJD, claiming they had no remorse for the 15 years of jungle raj and were once again trying to scare the people of Bihar to garner votes.

The Vadhavan Port will be a game changer as it will connect 24 districts through Samruddhi Mahamarg, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday. The CM made these observations after inaugurating the Maharashtra Maritime Summit held in Mumbai to discuss and debate ideas to further strengthen the state's maritime sector. The summit began with Nitesh Rane, Minister for Ports and Fisheries, outlining his vision and roadmap for developing the state's ports, equipping the youth with necessary skills to qualify for jobs that will be created with this development. 'The formation of the Maritime Acceleration Task Force will help take forward the various initiatives, ' Rane said. Earlier, Fadnavis explained the benefits that infrastructure developed, and the upcoming Vadhavan Port will bring to Maharashtra. 'The Vadhavan Port, when ready, will be connected to 24 districts of the state via the Samruddhi highway and various access roads. The port will also have an offshore airport to accelerate the movement of cargo,' he said. The various panels, with experts from the maritime business, debated the benefits of bringing ship building and ship breaking industries to Maharashtra, the state's maritime policy and the future of water transport using the waterways. The panelists discussed the potential that Maharashtra holds with Indian shipbuilders looking outside the country for collaboration in technology and foreign companies looking for opportunities in India. Panelists included representatives from leading players in the business–Adani Ports, Damen Shipyards, Haskoning, Thyssenkrup Marines Systems, JSW Infra, DP World, Rural Enhancers Group, Indigo Seaways and Candela. Diplomats of various countries attended the summit, showcasing the international interest in forging business ties with Maharashtra. The political leaders reiterated Maharashtra 's commitment to developing the maritime sector.
