Pakistan Appoint Shane McDermott As All-Format Fielding Coach: Report
The 44-year-old brings extensive experience to the table, holding a High Performance Level Three Coaching Certificate and having worked with various international and domestic teams, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Cricket Australia, the Western Australia Cricket Association and Cricket Tasmania.
From 2022 to 2023, McDermott served as the assistant fielding coach for the Bangladesh national team but parted ways with the side due to disagreements with then-head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe. Before that, he spent three years with Sri Lanka's senior men's team as their fielding coach and also took charge of the Sri Lanka A team during his tenure.
After his stint in Bangladesh, McDermott joined Afghanistan's coaching staff, where he received widespread praise for his role in the team's impressive journey to the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup in June 2024.
Earlier in his career, from 2012 to 2019, he held multiple roles at Cricket Australia's National Cricket Centre, including interim assistant/fielding coach and interim analyst and fielding coach for the Australia A team.
Pakistan are set for a busy schedule, starting with a tour of Bangladesh, followed by a five-match T20I series in the West Indies.Earlier this week, the Pakistan Cricket Board appointed former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood as acting head coach for the Test team. The board is also expected to name Salman Agha as the all-format captain, replacing Shan Masood (Tests) and Mohammad Rizwan (ODIs) in leadership roles.

Taylor Fritz booked a place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals in double-quick time on Sunday after Australia's Jordan Thompson retired injured with the score at 6-1, 3-0. The US fifth seed faced gruelling five-set battles in his opening two matches against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Gabriel Diallo, before overcoming Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in four sets in the third round. But it was a different story on Sunday. The Eastbourne champion broke Thompson twice to seal the first set in just 21 minutes and led 3-0 in the second set. American fifth seed Taylor Fritz had little trouble in reaching his third Wimbledon quarter-final after his Australian opponent Jordan Thompson retired with a thigh injury at 6-1 3-0 down in their fourth-round meeting on Sunday. Thompson, who came to the All England Club with a back issue, called for a medical timeout midway through the second set due to an apparent right thigh problem and after three more points decided to call it a day. Fritz raced through the first set, hardly breaking sweat against his exhausted opponent, who had played five-set matches in the first and second rounds and four sets in the previous round. As the rain began hammering down on the Court One roof, so Fritz began raining down his serve, clinching the first set off the back of three aces. The American is ace king at Wimbledon so far with 79, 14 ahead of the next best — Chilean Nicolas Jarry. Fritz broke Thompson easily in the opening game of the second and it was clear the Australian was struggling with his movement. The medical timeout after Fritz clinched another break only delayed the inevitable as the match was soon brought to a premature end. "Not the way I wanted to go through, I was excited to play Jordan today, I was excited to play good tennis," Fritz said. "It's sad ... he's been battling out here, playing five-setters, I respect him for coming out ... I feel bad for him and I hope he gets better." The 27-year-old Fritz, who reached his maiden Grand Slam final last year at the U.S. Open, continues chasing America's dream of a first male winner at Wimbledon since Pete Sampras in 2000 when he next faces 17th-seeded Russian Karen Khachanov.
