PU security chief, DSW officials return; fact-finding report submitted
Those returning include dean student welfare (DSW) Prof Amit Chauhan, DSW (Women) Prof Simrit Kahlon, Associate DSW Prof Naresh, and chief of university security Vikram Singh. While the DSW team has resumed office, Singh is expected to return after about a week — once new standard operating procedures (SOPs) on security are finalised.
To bridge the gap between campus security and the student community, and to improve real-time coordination during student events, the vice-chancellor has appointed Prof Dinesh Kumar Bishnoi from the department of laws as the new faculty incharge of security. The move is aimed at ensuring that concerns related to safety, discipline, and student conduct are addressed more promptly.
Aditya Thakur, a second-year engineering student, died after being stabbed during a crowded concert of Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma on March 28. The incident, involving outsiders, triggered outrage over the lack of safety measures and prompted dual inquiries—one by the university and another ordered by the deputy commissioner, led by the SDM.

Vice-chancellor Prof Renu Vig said, "We are committed to doing everything necessary to improve student safety. The committee's recommendations will be implemented in full spirit. With the DSW office back in place, we can now better handle upcoming student activities like farewells and admissions, where students were facing inconvenience."
The SDM-led inquiry ordered by the Deputy Commissioner on April 1 had initially been given a two-week deadline, but nearly a month later, the report is still awaited. As the university begins to act on its internal findings, focus will also remain on the outcome of the official administrative probe and whether it prompts further accountability.

B'deshi miscreants attack BSF, farmers in Cachar; 3 injured
Silchar: In a brazen cross-border incursion, a group of Bangladeshi miscreants allegedly attacked BSF personnel and Indian farmers near the international border in Assam's Cachar district late Thursday afternoon, leaving three injured, including a BSF jawan. The incident took place near the Kinnokhal BSF outpost in Katigorah, close to the Bangladesh border, amid heavy rainfall. According to sources, the assailants entered Indian territory and attempted to steal iron materials meant for repairing the barbed wire fencing along the border. BSF personnel stationed at the outpost intervened, leading to a confrontation. As the jawans tried to apprehend the two intruders, eight to ten more miscreants reportedly crossed over from the Bangladesh side, armed with sharp weapons, and launched an attack on the BSF team and two local farmers who rushed to help. "A BSF jawan sustained a deep cut on his hand after being struck with a spade. His service rifle was also damaged during the scuffle," a source said. The injured jawan was taken to Katigorah Model Hospital, where he received three stitches. Police inspector evades court order,faces arrest warrant
Kanpur: The additional sessions judge court, Kanpur Nagar, on Friday issued a non-bailable warrant against a police inspector for non-compliance of court order. The court ordered to arrest the inspector and produced him before the court on the next date. Apart from it, the court directed to serve the NBW through mobile messages on the inspector's mobile and stop the disbursement of his salary. The court issued non-bailable warrant against then inspector Rail Bazar police station Ratnesh Kumar Yadav in the case of gang rape and murder of a woman. The court was summoning the inspector regularly to give evidence but he evaded the notices. According to district government counsel Bhaskar Mishra, the complainant on Friday produced a high court order in which it had directed to send the record of the investigation officer's evidence within two weeks and then submit the report before the high court by August 18. The high court also directed all necessary steps to produce the inspector in the court. The judge Subhash Singh directed to write down a letter to the police officer in-charge of the cyber cell of Lucknow to arrest him or by another way produce the inspector in the court by August 6.
