49ers' Brock Purdy likes the ‘real' looks he's getting as Nick Bosa keeps wreaking havoc
When Millie isn't sleeping on his shoulder, Purdy is at training camp busy getting ready for the season. And one of the things he is also enjoying a lot is pass rusher Nick Bosa constantly tapping his shoulder during scrimmages. Bosa did it at least four times at Friday's practice, as he beat right tackle Colton McKivitz for three would-be sacks and politely let Purdy know that he could have blown him up.

(Bosa has been the star of camp, along with running back Christian McCaffrey, and he also got by left tackle Trent Williams to shut down a run play.)
'It's good getting that kind of pass rush,' Purdy said. 'It's real. If you're at practice and dropping back and not getting touched and going through your progressions all perfectly, to me, it can be scary.
'Because once you get in a game, it's 11-on-11, it's going fast, you've got different blitzes, different stunts from the D-line, and they're up in your face.'
Which is the service that Bosa provides with a smile.
'To have him every single rep and feeling his presence 24/7, honestly, it's great work for all of us, myself included,' Purdy said. 'Throwing with push in the pocket and having different arm angles, it's all real … it's really good, so I appreciate him for that.'
• Purdy is running out of receivers to throw to. Rookie Jordan Watkins joined injured wideouts Jauan Jennings, Jacob Cowing and Brandon Aiyuk on the sideline Friday. The 49ers signed former Arizona Cardinals second-round pick Andy Isabella, 28, on Thursday, but the former speedster has clearly lost a step or six.
• Backup quarterback Mac Jones has been sharp and looks more confident in Kyle Shanahan's system than he did in offseason workouts. Part of the reason is that Jones took his work home with him during the summer break.
'I did like 10 practices on my own in full pads,' Jones said. 'We have (script) installs, like every team does. And you go through and just hit each play and call the play and run the plays, and I was fortunate to have people help me do that. … I like to throw in pads.'
• Both Jones and Purdy took off on effective scrambles on Friday, and Jones said he enjoys the look on people's faces when he does.
'I guess everyone thinks I'm really slow,' he said, smiling. 'Maybe I look like Forrest Gump out there sometimes, but I've been working on my quickness and I think that's one part of my game I improved last year on tape if you watch the tape and stuff.

'If you can scramble and get 5 (yards), it makes it a lot easier on Kyle to call the game from like first-and-10 to second-and-5 versus second-and-10.'
• While rookie defensive tackle CJ West, selected in the fourth round, continues to get rave reviews, second-round pick Alfred Collins does not. And that's OK.
'He's coming along,' defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said. 'He missed all of (offseason workouts), not to make excuses for the young man, but he did. It was with a (calf) injury, so it wasn't like he was doing D-line drills. He was just trying to get up to speed.
'So, he's behind the eight ball, but he's working hard. Love the way he's approaching every day, and he'll catch up. He's a big body with good feet. Those are things you can't teach.'
• Starting cornerbacks Deommodore Lenoir (hip) and Renardo Green (hamstring) didn't practice and neither did rookie running back Jordan James (knee). Saleh said it gave Dallis Flowers and Tre Brown a good chance to get reps and compete for the team's No. 3 cornerback spot, while rookie Upton Stout continues to make his case to start in the slot. Stout has been able to get the best of everyone … except for veteran newcomer Russell Gage.
Gage, in his sixth year after four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has run some really crisp routes this camp. Purdy tipped his cap to Gage and Demarcus Robinson after practice.
'It's huge with Jauan and B.A. out for now, to have guys like that who can go in and still show the young guys like, 'hey, this is how it's done,'' Purdy said. 'They're detailed in what they do, they know their assignment, but you throw it out there in man coverage, zone or whatever, they're going to go get it. And tight windows, even if it's like a bang-bang kind of play, having strong hands and tucking the ball right after, those are all real things.

'They show that every single practice. So, I'm excited to have them and for them to be an example for the rest of the guys.'
• LB Curtis Robinson (knee) was activated off the physically unable to perform list. The 49ers re-signed the special-teams standout to a one-year deal in March.
Greg Papa, the radio voice of the 49ers, is stepping away from his broadcasting duties while undergoing treatment for cancer, he announced on Friday. Papa, a longtime on-air host at KNBR 680-AM, said he is fully focused on his treatment and looking forward to a full recovery.
'Thanks to everyone for your prayers and good wishes as I begin this fight,' Papa said in a statement.
We're all behind you, Papa. ❤️ https://t.co/cp1vsAn1pV pic.twitter.com/awh4gl9N9W

Celtics trade pitch finds ideal Kristaps Porzingis replacement by moving Simons
The Boston Celtics are still looking for ways to shed salary, and that could come in a few different ways. If Brad Stevens could also do that in a way to improve the rest of his roster, it's possible that things could look great for the Celtics in the short and long term. When recently looking for a few trade ideas around for Anfernee Simons, Matt Moore of FanSided proposed a few intriguing ones. Perhaps his most intriguing, however, was a deal with the Chicago Bulls for Nikola Vucevic and Ayo Dosunmu. MORE: Boston Celtics get: Nikola Vucevic, Ayo Dosunmu Chicago Bulls get: Anfernee Simons, Xavier Tillman 'The Bulls have a logjam of guards, so adding Simons is a little curious. But think of this way. In adding Simons, they can leverage him against Coby White, who is also on an expiring deal. The player who comes out on top gets extended. 'That, along with the Giddey extension, sets their direction for the long-term in the backcourt while Matas Buzelis develops... The Celtics shave off another $1.4 million off their cap space, while continuing to clean the books for 2026, and add a dogged defender in Dosunmu who fits their system better than Simons. Think of what Dosunmu will learn as Derrick White's understudy,' he wrote. Vucevic would be an interesting piece for the Celtics, as he has a somewhat similar skill set to Kristaps Porzingis. While Porzingis is much better, and tough to disagree with, Vucevic can also make shots from beyond the arc, so in that sense, they have some similarities. Dosunmu could also be a decent piece, and perhaps someone who could run the second unit, depending on what the Celtics want to do.

Report: Packers RB Emanuel Wilson avoids serious knee injury
Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson avoided a serious knee injury at Friday's practice and shouldn't miss much time, according to reporting from Bill Huber of Wilson, the team's backup running back behind Josh Jacobs last season, went down awkwardly while attempting to catch a pass during a team period on Friday. Despite initial concerns of a major injury, it appears Wilson avoided a worst-case scenario and will eventually return during training camp. Huber described the injury as a "tweak" and reported there is "no damage" inside the knee. The Packers are already without running back MarShawn Lloyd, who injured his groin during the team's first padded practice of the week and is expected to miss time into next week. Wilson rushed 103 times for 502 yards and four touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 48 yards and another touchdown across 17 games last season. The Packers also have veteran Chris Brooks, rookies Jalen White and Amir Johnson and recent addition Israel Abanikanda at running back behind Jacobs entering the team's Family Night practice at Lambeau Field on Saturday. The Packers open the preseason next Saturday at Lambeau Field against the New York Jets. Breaking down the Steelers picks in a new 7-round mock draft
The folks over at Pro Football Sports Network ran a full seven-round mock draft via their simulator, and we are going to break down the picks for the Pittsburgh Steelers. We appreciate the work that goes into a mock draft like this and we appreciate them thinking outside the box for the Steelers in the first round. First round - WR Jordyn Tyson - Arizona State After four quarterbacks go off the board in the Top 10 picks, the Steelers pivot here and go for the top receiver in the draft instead. Tyson is absolutely elite and a bargain this late in the round. He's one of the best route-runners of the last five years and impossible to guard one-on-one. Second round - QB Fernando Mendoza - Indiana The calculated risk pays off for the Steelers as Indiana's Fernando Mendoza is still on the board in the second round. By the time the draft gets here, there's a real chance Mendoza is long gone but for now, we will take this as a huge value pick. Third round - CB Chandler Rivers - Duke Assuming Darius Slay doesn't re-sign, adding Rivers here makes a lot of sense. He's got a nose for the football and has a very high ceiling. Third round - G DJ Campbell - Texas We look for Spencer Anderson to replace Isaac Seumalo should he move on after the season, but Campbell is a great option to be in as the top reserve guard on either side. Fourth round - OT Trey Zuhn - Texas A&M Zuhn has an NFL-caliber frame and length, excellent athleticism and lots of room to grow. Fifth round - DT Chris McClellan - Missouri McClellan is a prototypical 3-4 defensive lineman with the build the Steelers look for in a guy who can line up inside and outside. Sixth round - RB Kanye Udoh - Arizona State Udoh heads into the season with a ton of hype as he transferred to ASU from Army. It's an ideal circumstance for Udoh to showcase his skills, although he's not going to be a feature back. Seventh round - TE Tanner Koziol - Houston Crazy frame at 6-foot-7 and a surprisingly good athlete for all that length. Nice developmental prospect.
