This MFI lender's stock soars 7% even as Q1 profit plunges; Here's why
Shares of CreditAccess Grameen rose over 7 per cent on Wednesday even after the company reported an 85 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to ₹60.2 crore for the quarter ended June 2025 (Q1FY26). The micro finance lender's stock rose as much as 7.05 per cent during the day to ₹1,370 per share. The stock pared gains to trade 5.3 per cent higher at ₹1,347 apiece, compared to a 0.43 per cent advance in Nifty 50 as of 1:10 PM. Shares of the company have been range-bound since July, and at day's high, the stock was at the highest level since July 2, 2024. The counter has risen 52 per cent this year, compared to a 6.2 per cent advance in the benchmark Nifty 50. CreditAccess Grameen has a total market capitalisation of ₹21,496.25 crore, according to BSE data. CreditAccess Grameen Q1 results The microfinance lender's net profit declined 85 per cent Y-o-Y primarily to ₹60.2 crore contraction in net interest income and higher provisioning. Sequentially, the net profit rose 27.5 per cent from Rs 47.2 crore in the quarter ended March 2025 (Q4FY25). The lender's net interest income (NII) declined 1.6 per cent to ₹937 crore. Sequentially, NII grew 7 per cent from ₹876.1 crore in Q4FY25. Its net interest margin (NIM) dropped to 12.8 per cent in Q1FY26 from 13.0 per cent in Q1FY25. However, it improved from 12.7 per cent in Q4FY25. The company's gross non-performing assets (NPAs) rose sharply to 4.70 per cent as of June 2025, up from 1.46 per cent a year ago. It, however, declined from 4.76 per cent at the end of March 2025. Analysts bullish on CreditAccess Grameen While the microfinance industry (MFI) is still navigating stress, JM Financial believes CreditAccess Grameen is best positioned to recover early. This is due to its strong stress recognition framework, along with an accelerated write-off policy and high expected credit loss coverage. Management expects elevated credit costs to persist in Q2FY25, before moderating to 3-3.5 per cent in the second half of FY25. FY26 guidance for loan growth and return on equity (RoE) has been maintained at 14-18 per cent and 11.8-13.3 per cent, respectively, with stronger momentum expected in the second half, particularly from the retail finance book. JM Financial expects around 15 per cent assets under management CAGR over FY25-27. Given the improving outlook, the brokerage has upgraded the stock to 'Buy' and revised the target price to ₹1,475. Analysts at Motilal Oswal said that the lender has successfully navigated a period of industry-wide challenges, demonstrating remarkable resilience and a return to normal operational efficiency. The company will continue to prioritise balance sheet normalisation through accelerated write-offs and prudent provisioning, it said.

Ola, Uber & Rapido told to justify rates; RTA-approved fares to pinch pocket
The transport commissioner 's office on Tuesday directed Ola , Uber and Rapido to submit a written explanation on how they determine fares as Indian Gig Workers' Front continued a pause on the strike of app-based cabs , which was going to be resumed on Wednesday. Additional transport commissioner Bharat Kalaskar said, "We had two meetings on Tuesday with firm officials and union leaders. After discussions, we decided that Ola, Uber, and Rapido should provide us with a written explanation on how they determine the app-based fares for cabs and autorickshaws in various cities, and how much they differ from the RTO-approved rates." The demand for high fares has been the reason for agitation by hundreds of drivers across the state. Kalaskar said he has asked the aggregator company if any drivers' IDs have been blocked lately for charging at RTA-approved rates, those IDs should be reactivated. In Pune, the RTA approved fares stand at Rs. 75 for the first 3km and then Rs 25 for every subsequent km. If RTA-approved fare system, as assured by the state transport department, comes into effect, a 10km cab ride for people would cost at least Rs 249.50. At present, the average cab fare (non-surge) for the same distance is around Rs 175 for a basic Uber ride (Uber Go). Commuters blamed the Pune RTO for letting the issue escalate. "They should have acted when this whole issue started. But they hid under the garb that commuters would be affected if they took action. Aren't we facing the problems now?" Kalpana Seth, a bank employee from Kondhwa, said. Maharashtra Kamgar Sena president Keshav Kshirsagar said: "The (state transport department) officials have assured us Ola, Uber and Rapido will give a written assurance to the department on Wednesday on introducing RTA-based fares on their platforms. In the application they will also mention the date from which the RTA-approved fares will get reflected." Prashant Sawardekar, president of the Indian Federation of App-Based Transporters , said, "The transport officials informed us on Tuesday that govt will soon come out with a new policy, which will define the fares for app-based cabs. But we are against this state policy, as Centre has issued guidelines that are completely different. The central guidelines for aggregators mention that the surge price for cabs can go up to 50% of the base fare (which is up to Rs 48 per km). This is not part of the state draft policy." Sushmita Ghosh took to X on Tuesday and posted, "...New airport has all possible inconveniences. The drivers are accepting rides from tired and frustrated travellers, but upon arrival cancelling the trip and telling the passengers to pay Rs 300-400 more." Aneesha Acharya replied to the post and posted, "Today, I booked an Uber ride to go to a hospital in Pimpri from the camp area. Fare on app was Rs 295. On arrival the driver insisted that I pay Rs 700 for 20km. I called Uber support and was shocked to hear 'you have to pay by meter, rates not yet fixed'."

Trading halt at MCX: What led to suspension for over an hour at the commodity derivatives exchange
A technical glitch at the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) led to a halt in trading on the commodity derivatives exchange for 1 hour and 15 minutes on Wednesday. Trading on the exchange resumed at 10:15 am, MCX said. The disruption affected trading in the commodity futures and options segment of the exchange. 'Trading started on the exchange at 10:15 am today, due to delay in clearing technical processes and file sharing,' the exchange said in a statement. Initially, the exchange on its website said that trading was 'expected to start by 9:45 am'. The normal trading session on the MCX starts from 9 am to 11:30 pm from Monday to Friday. Agri-commodities are available for futures trading up to 5 pm whereas other commodities such as bullions, metals and energy products are available up to 11:30 pm/11.55 PM and international referenceable agri-commodities are available for trading up to 9 pm. The special session on the MCX is held from 8:45 am to 8:59 am on weekdays. This session is being held to cancel the pending orders prior to opening of the market. This is not the first time that trading was disrupted on MCX due to technical glitches. On February 13, 2024, the trading at MCX was delayed for four hours. On that day, MCX had commenced trading at 1 pm instead of the scheduled time at 9 am. The commodity derivatives exchange attributed the delay to the slow processing and generation of backend files for the members. In July last year, a global outage of Microsoft Systems was reported to cause disruptions across various sectors globally. However in India, all exchanges and clearing corporations functioned without any impact. Out of the over 1,400 trading members ecosystem, there were 11 trading members who reported disruptions to their operations, which were either resolved during the day, or are being resolved, exchanges had said. MCX is the country's leading commodity derivatives exchange with a market share of about 98 per cent in terms of the value of commodity futures contracts traded in the financial year 2024-25. During the 12 months ending March 31, 2025, the average daily turnover (ADT) of commodity futures and options on MCX surged by 101 per cent, reaching Rs 2.19 lakh crore, compared to the previous year's ADT of Rs 1.09 lakh crore. The ADT of commodity futures surged by 38 per cent during the year to Rs 27,153 crore, compared to Rs 19,636 crore in FY24, the exchange said. The combined number of traded clients for futures and options witnessed a 39 per cent growth, reaching 12.96 lakh from 9.32 lakh last year.
