Rita Ora's new music 'celebrates her sexuality'

Perth Now13-07-2025
Rita Ora wants to "celebrate [her] sexuality" through her new music.
The 34-year-old pop star released her latest single, Heat, last month, and Rita admits that it's a taste of things to come.
The chart-topping singer told People: "The whole theme of this record is really about being instant [and] really direct with my messaging and stripping everything back behind me, production wise."
Heat was co-written by Troye Sivan, and Rita admits that she has "a lot in common" with the music star.
The singer - who is married to Hollywood film director Taika Waititi - shared: "I love his sexuality and the celebration he has with that.
"I was really inspired for me and my womanhood to really kind of celebrate my sexuality, my sexiness and get back into my body, you know? And this really just embodied that."
Rita hasn't released a new album since 2023, and she's now keen to reintroduce herself to the public.
The pop star said: "I just feel as if I have so many things to sort of remind the public with, especially my new fans. I kind of love the idea of explaining who I am again."
Meanwhile, Rita recently revealed that she's like "the fairy godmother" to Taika's children.
The director has two kids with his ex-wife Chelsea Winstanley, and Rita admitted that she has a great relationship with his children.
During an appearance on the Begin Again with Davina McCall podcast, Rita - who married Taika in 2022 - shared: "It is so fun. I just have the best time with them.
"I'm like the fairy godmother [who] gives them all the sugar and all the ice cream, and then sends them back. And their mother, who I love dearly, is like, 'They're bouncing off the walls.'"
Rita also revealed that she relished the experience of taking the kids to see Ed Sheeran, her long-time showbiz pal.
The singer said: "I think that's the fun part of being a stepmom, like you can do those naughty things. I take them out, and I took them to an Ed Sheeran concert. They met Ed Sheeran, like, I was giving it all to these kids!"

Man left in critical condition after trying to save Malcolm-Jamal Warner

A man left in critical condition after the drowning of Malcolm-Jamal Warner was trying to save him. The 54-year-old actor died after being swept away by a rip current on a beach in Costa Rica over the weekend and another unnamed man – who was injured in the incident – was actually a Good Samaritan who spotted Warner in difficulty and tried to save him. The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) told PEOPLE in a statement: "The victim appears to have entered the sea and was apparently swept away by a current. The man was rescued by bystanders and taken to shore, where he received treatment from the Costa Rican Red Cross. However, he was declared lifeless at the scene." A spokesperson for the OIJ confirmed to PEOPLE that the second victim "came in [the water] to help Mr. Warner." The spokesperson added that the other person had no personal connection to Warner, but saw him from the beach and tried to help. The Cosby Show actor Warner was on vacation with his wife and daughter at the time of the accident, according to NBC News. The OIJ also confirmed that Warner's autopsy showed he died from accidental asphyxiation by submersion. It added: 'The body will be removed from the Judicial Morgue by a funeral service company hired by Mr. Warner's family.' Meanwhile, tributes to Malcolm poured in from across the showbiz world, with his 9-1-1 co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt stating that the tragedy "hurts my heart". She wrote on social media: "This hurts my heart. A gentleman, an incredible talent and we were so lucky to have him in the 9-1-1 family. Heartbroken and sending love to his family." Comedian Sherri Shepherd described Malcolm as "one of the most-grounded people I've met in our business" after working with him on the TV series Sherri. She said: "As someone who grew up on TV, Malcolm remained one of the most-grounded people I've ever met in our business. To know Malcolm was to know a renaissance man that possessed humour, grace, humility and deep cultural appreciation. He was just a good guy! "His passing is a true loss to the Hollywood community. He was a proud girl dad and loved his daughter so much. To his family, friends and all who loved him - my heart is with you."

Jennifer Lopez admits 'some' celebrity brands aren't 'worth the hype'

Jennifer Lopez has admitted "some" celebrity brands aren't "worth the hype". The 55-year-old star has been busy answering some fan questions about her JLo Beauty brand, and acknowledged that some people are justifiably sceptical about famous faces lending their names to products. In an Instagram video, she addressed a question from a fan who said: "I tend to think celebrity skincare is not worth the hype." She replied: "Some of it isn't. It's luxury skincare that is clinically tested and trust me, I don't cut corners." The Jenny From The Block hitmaker was also asked about how some producers are "too expensive", but she insisted it's worth the investment if you can afford it. She said: "Listen, I get it. "Your skin is something that you have to show up with every single day. So, if there is a little bit of splurge in you, I would say do it on skincare, without a doubt. Other fans heaped praise on the brand, noting her moistueriser "feels like silk". J-Lo explained: "We want it to be like cashmere for your face, but make it clinically tested." And when another user insisted JLo Beauty "actually works", she replied: "Yeah, that was the point. You thought, what? I came to play? No." The singer and actress also shrugged off the idea she only uses her producers "just when the cameras are off", and revealed she was actually filming the video in her own bathroom. She laughed: "That's funny because I'm standing in my actual bathroom right now. No, I use it. I use it every day." JLo Beauty launched in 2021, initially with eight products although others have been introducted over the years. She previously told PEOPLE (The Show!): "Everywhere I went, I felt like everybody was always asking me about my skin. And as I got more mature, the questions came more often. "It was actually very nice, but I realised that it was almost like an obligation. Like I had to put out a skincare line for everybody who was asking."
