
Kuwait scraps judicial recruitment results to ensure fairness and transparency
In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday, Minister Al-Sumait affirmed that the move reflects the Ministry's commitment to upholding the principles of equal opportunity, justice, and transparency in judicial appointments. He emphasized the need to maintain public trust in the integrity and impartiality of Kuwait's judiciary.
The Minister announced that written exams and personal interviews for applicants will be restructured and conducted again in accordance with a revised mechanism, details of which will be announced at a later date. This step, he said, is intended to ensure procedural integrity and enhance public confidence in the judicial selection process.
Al-Sumait stressed the critical nature of the junior legal researcher position, describing it as the foundation for building the judicial institution. 'The judicial role is a mandate and a trust,' he said, 'one that demands the highest standards of competence and integrity.'
The Ministry of Justice, according to Al-Sumait, had received several complaints and grievances concerning the previous admission process, raising concerns about its fairness and accuracy. Upon reviewing the relevant documents, the Ministry uncovered significant violations that compromised the credibility of the selection committee's work.
'These irregularities seriously undermined the validity of the entire recruitment process,' the Minister stated, 'to the extent that any subsequent corrections or reviews would be insufficient to restore confidence in the results.'
The Ministry will now work toward implementing a new, transparent admission mechanism that reflects the true merit of candidates and reinforces the public's confidence in the judiciary's impartiality and fairness.

The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), in coordination with the Joint Tripartite Committee, launched the unannounced raid at the Al-Naeem Housing Project under the directives of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah. The campaign uncovered a range of labor violations, including workers found employed by companies other than their sponsors, laborers working in professions not listed on their permits, and individuals residing in Kuwait illegally. Among the violations: 12 workers were found under the domestic servant category (Article 20) but were working in construction. 1 worker was found violating the law under the shepherd category. 28 workers were employed by companies that were not licensed to operate on the site. 3 individuals were caught for residency violations. The arrested laborers were reportedly working under the names of Arab Contractors and First Group, without possessing the required permits and engaging in unauthorized job roles. In an official statement, PAM emphasized that the inspection is part of a broader campaign to enforce Kuwait's labor laws and create a safer, more organized work environment for all stakeholders. The authority affirmed that inspections will continue with full force and violators will face strict legal action. 'These measures are being implemented in collaboration with relevant agencies to deter violations and maintain the integrity of Kuwait's labor market,' the statement read.

The deals, unveiled by Saudi Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih at a Damascus forum, are a major financial boost for Sharaa as he struggles to establish control over Syria, which was rocked this month by sectarian violence in the southwest. Al-Falih said his visit to Syria had been ordered by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, calling the trip 'confirmation of the kingdom's firm and supportive stance towards sisterly Syria'. The investment deals included $2.93 billion for real estate and infrastructure projects and about $1.07 billion for the telecommunications and information technology sector, Al-Falih said.
