Land pooling policy: SAD accuses Ayali of colluding with AAP

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday alleged that Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali colluded with the AAP government to get his land excluded from the land pooling policy, even as adjoining land, belonging to farmers, had been notified for acquisition. Refuting the allegations, Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali said: 'As much as 150 acres of land owned by my family and the company has come under the land pooling scheme in three villages, Dakha, Birmi and Kailpur. The 58-acre project, Ananta, was given permission during the Congress party regime.' (HT File)
Addressing a press conference, SAD leader Parambans Singh Romana alleged that Ayali had gone silent on the AAP government's 'land grabbing' scheme after his land was excluded.
'Ayali should disclose what settlement he has done with the AAP leadership to secure this reprieve,' Romana said. Romana also showed documents and maps, which he claimed showed how one chunk of land, including a 28-acre plot of Avanta Enclave, owned by the Ayali family and another 7.5 acres had been left out of the ambit of the land pooling scheme.
Refuting the allegations, Ayali said: 'As much as 150 acres of land owned by my family and the company has come under the land pooling scheme in three villages, Dakha, Birmi and Kailpur. The 58-acre project, Ananta, was given permission during the Congress party regime.'
He further said he will not give even an inch of land to the government under the pooling policy.

Kerala nuns' arrest: BJP accuses Cong, Left of ‘drama, political opportunism'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday accused the Congress and the Left of engaging in drama and opportunistic politics over the arrest of two nuns in Chhattisgarh, alleging that the protests in Kerala are aimed at reaping political gains rather than helping the affected. In a statement, Chandrasekhar said the demonstrations and agitations outside jails and courts in recent days have only aggravated and complicated the situation faced by the nuns. 'The Congress is trying to gain by politicising the issue, fully knowing that it will harm the case. This has only put pressure on the judicial system and led to confusion,' he said. He pointed out that the case has now been transferred to a special court to ensure transparency and shield the investigation from external pressure. 'Forced conversion and human trafficking are extremely serious issues in states like Chhattisgarh, where strict laws exist to curb them. We must exercise restraint and avoid creating unnecessary controversies,' the BJP leader said. Chandrasekhar also referred to a similar case registered in Kerala against nuns in 2022, which the court recently closed. 'In Chhattisgarh itself, under the Congress government, four Christian priests were arrested in 2021 under the Prohibition of Religious Conversion Act. Those who kept silent then are now attempting to stir trouble as elections are approaching in Kerala,' he said. The BJP state president further said the fact that no Congress leader from Chhattisgarh joined the delegation or spoke in favour of the nuns was proof that local leaders were aware of the seriousness of the case. 'As a political party committed to the welfare of the people, we will stand with any Malayali in crisis anywhere in the world. The BJP has intervened in this case as part of that long-standing commitment,' Chandrasekhar

Minister George Kurian slams congress over nun arrest row, cites double standards and legal lapses

When asked about allegations of religious conversion, Kurian reiterated that the matter was under judicial consideration. 'It is for the court to decide,' he said, adding that bishops were within their rights to express dissent. He further underlined that 'mainstream churches in Kerala do not convert.' Responding to a media query on BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar's earlier remark that no conversion had taken place, Kurian remarked, 'He must have said so because he is well-informed.' Taking a dig at the Congress leadership in Kerala, Kurian recalled that when there was a protest against Pala Bishop, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan had demanded that a case be registered against him. 'Now the same Congress is raising this issue and trying to create the impression that they are even ready to die for Christians,' he said. The arrest of the two nuns, both hailing from Kerala, has sparked widespread protests in Kerala and Chhattisgarh. 'Court will decide' When asked about allegations of religious conversion, Kurian reiterated that the matter was under judicial consider-ation. 'It is for the court to decide,' he said. He further underlined that 'mainstream churches in Kerala do not convert.'

BRS hails SC's decision on defected MLAs; asks Rahul to speak his mind

Hyderabad: Welcoming the Supreme Court's decision, BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday demanded that the Assembly Speaker disqualify the BRS MLAs who shifted loyalties. He also urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to demonstrate his commitment to his 'PaanchNyay' by ensuring the disqualification of MLAs who defected to the Congress. Rama Rao asserted that the Supreme Court's judgment should be respected, and the Speaker should promptly disqualify the defected MLAs. He emphasised that Rahul Gandhi, who often speaks about constitutional values, must adhere to his own words regarding defections. 'There is no need for further inquiry. The Speaker should immediately disqualify the MLAs, paving the way for by-elections in 10 constituencies. The BRS cadre is ready to win these elections. Ultimately, truth and righteousness have prevailed,' said Rama Rao. KTR expressed his gratitude to the Supreme Court for upholding the country's democratic system, proving that the malicious methods adopted by some public representatives cannot undermine India's democratic foundations. He also alleged that the Congress party's attempts to mislead the courts had been thwarted, and truth had ultimately triumphed. KTR criticised the Congress for what he termed their 'unethical and anti-constitutional politics of defections,' using the Speaker's position, stating that the Supreme Court's verdict was a 'slap in the face' to such practices. Demanding the immediate implementation of the Supreme Court's order, KTR challenged Rahul Gandhi to prove his sincerity and commitment on this matter. He reminded Gandhi of his 'PaanchNyay', which advocated for automatic disqualification upon defection, and urged him to welcome the Supreme Court's decision. 'I hope Rahul Gandhi, who in his PanchNyay advocated for stronger anti-defection laws and automatic cancellation upon defection, will welcome this decision. I dare you to stand by your own preachings, Gandhi. And I hope you and your party don't use the honourable Speaker's position to make a mockery of the Indian constitution, any further,' KTR stated on X (formerly Twitter). KTR questioned the Congress party's opportunistic stance on defections, maintaining different standards when in opposition versus when in power. 'It doesn't need much investigation to accept that all these 10 MLAs switched to Congress illegitimately and have been participating in the official programmes every single day!' KTR emphasised in his tweet.
