I-70 shut down in both directions in Colorado due to a battle against an Eagle County wildfire
The interstate was closed east of Gypsum and west of Avon.
At 5:15 p.m. a large number of cars could be seen backed up on I-70 in the area of the closure.
So far it's not clear how big the wildfire is or if any structures are threatened.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Deckerville, Michigan, on Saturday, marking the state's 30th in 2025. Colorado heat wave expected for several more days before cooldown
The heat impacting Colorado will continue for two more days before some slight relief arrives on Tuesday. Sunday will top out in the upper 90s across the Front Range. The record for the day is 98 degrees, set back in 1964. Monday could be another day of record-tying or breaking heat. The current record is 100 degrees. Several towns and cities on the Eastern Plains are expected to see triple-digit heat both Sunday and Monday. Tuesday, some slight relief arrives, and temperatures will return to normal for this time of year. Overnight Tuesday, a front will drop into the state, dropping temperatures into the 80s and upper 70s. The biggest change we will see is rain showers across the state. Some of the rain could be heavy at times, and localized flooding is possible. The rain is highly needed for the western half of the state, where high fire danger and drought continue.

New York City and other parts of the Northeast were placed under air quality alerts for the second day in a row as smoke from the wildfires burning in Canada again brings hazardous conditions to the region. New York City was placed under an air quality health advisory over the weekend. Canada has suffered from severe wildfires since a record-breaking 2023 wildfire season, when fires burning in Quebec blanketed New York City in an orange haze. Earlier this month, a group of Republican members of Congress from Wisconsin and Minnesota wrote to Ambassador Kirsten Hillman, Canada's ambassador to the U.S., asking the country for more information about how it planned to combat the fires and implying a 'lack of active forest management' played a role in exacerbating the situation.
