‘Hee Haw' actor Gailard Sartain dead at 81

Fox News20-06-2025
"Hee Haw" star Gailard Sartain has died. He was 81.
The actor, who also appeared in "Mississippi Burning" and "The Buddy Holly Story," passed away from natural causes at his home on Thursday, his wife Mary Jo Sartain confirmed to Fox News Digital.
"Everyone has a Gailard story that they tell with a smile. Keep telling his stories," Mary, his wife of 36 years, said.
Sartain joined the "Hee Haw" cast in 1972. He appeared on the show for 20 years as a variety of different characters, including Orville the cook and clerk Maynard.
He also portrayed Willie Billy Honey on the spin-off, "Hee Haw Honeys," from 1978-1979. Lulu Roman, Kathie Lee Gifford and Misty Rowe also starred in the spin-off.
"Everyone has a Gailard story that they tell with a smile. Keep telling his stories."
Along with "Hee Haw," Sartain appeared in nine feature films that were directed by Alan Rudolph: "Roadie," "Equinox," "The Moderns," "Love at Large," "Songwriter," "Endangered Species," "Choose Me," "Trouble in Mind" and "Made in Heaven."
During an interview with Tulsa World newspaper in 2017, Sartain told the outlet that he enjoyed working with Rudolph because he "would just turn me loose. So I would come up with character accents and stuff, and he would go for it."
A career high for Sartain was his role as a racist sheriff in "Mississippi Burning," which was released in 1988.
During his Tulsa World interview, Sartain admitted it was difficult being cast in the same role.
"Nobody likes to be typecast as a barefooted hillbilly, so when I had the opportunity to do other roles, I happily did it. I was cast in that, and that kind of turned things around. I wasn't just typecast as a funny guy. That was a little bit pivotal," he said at the time.
Sartain was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1943. The actor is survived by his wife, their children, Sarah, Esther and Ben, his granddaughter, Chloe, and his great-grandson, Teddy.

'Not Gonna Lie': Jelly Roll Reveals The Big Trump Move He Thinks Is 'Awesome'

'Jimmy Kimmel Live' guest host Jelly Roll mostly shied away from politics during the show's opening monologue on Thursday night, but he did praise President Donald Trump for one recent decision. 'It's the UFC fight President Trump's planning on having on the South Lawn on the 4th of next July,' the rapper/country singer said. 'Now, listen, I know this is causing a little bit of controversy. But for me, I think it's awesome. I'm not gonna lie.' Trump said earlier this month that he was going to host a major UFC event on the White House grounds next year on Independence Day, with an audience of up to 25,000 spectators. Critics mocked Trump over the idea, but Jelly Roll said he sees this from another perspective. 'Where I'm from, watching two meth heads beat the piss out of each other on a lawn is just a part of our year,' he said. 'I tell you what, a UFC fight at the White House might not be what our Founding Fathers would have wanted. But our founding stepdads would have loved that shit.' He also offered another idea. 'We should put an octagon at the Pentagon and have a couple of geometry teachers fight it out,' he said. 'Let's settle this once and for all.' See more in his Thursday night monologue:

Bride's Future Mother-in-Law Keeps ‘Making Threats' About Wearing White to the Wedding

The bride shared on Reddit that her fiancé's mom has been texting her images of white dresses ahead of the big dayNEED TO KNOW A bride took to Reddit to vent about her future mother-in-law The mother-in-law has been threatening to wear white on the bride's wedding day, even sending her texts with examples of dresses Commenters think she should ignore the woman and have her fiancé deal with his motherOne bride's future mother-in-law is on the verge of a major wedding day faux pas. The future newlywed took to Reddit's Wedding Drama subreddit to share her struggles with her future mother-in-law. Noting that she and her fiancé recently got engaged, the poster said 'everyone was really happy and excited for us,' at first, but then her partner's mother changed her tone. 'My MIL started 'jokingly' saying that I should watch out because she might just show up to the wedding wearing a white dress,' the bride wrote. 'These were her literal words, in the MIDDLE of our engagement dinner.' At the time, the bride said her future husband 'tried to divert the topic of the conversation' and 'kept telling her that everyone knew she wouldn't dare (as a warning).' However, a week later, the future mother-in-law was continuing to text the bride about wearing white to the wedding. 'She's been sending me screenshots of white dresses she's found around that she 'might want to wear to the big day!'" the poster said. 'What should I do? I'm starting to get really angry, but I don't want to start an argument with her either.' She added that her fiancé's mother is 'very dramatic' and thinks that if she confronts her 'it will influence her mood throughout the whole wedding planning.' Most of the commenters urged the bride to ignore her future mother-in-law and have her fiancé take over communication with her. 'I have been replying with messages that avoid the main point of the issue, like, 'haha, yeah Debs (not her real name), slit dresses are your thing after all!' ' the OP (original poster) replied. 'But I also don't know if I should ignore her 100%? Should I? He's been helping as much as he can. I asked him if he talked to her about this and he said he has and to please be patient with her 'jokes.' But it just gets on my nerves.' Others felt the mother-in-law was intentionally riling her up. 'Yes, I feel like she's setting me up in a way,' the bride replied. 'She tends to play mind games and, like I said, I don't want to end up being the bad guy in the story. So I guess I'll just let him deal with her. Idk, I feel like I'm depending too much on him, maybe that's silly.' One commenter had a particularly creative solution. 'Please make sure to enlist one of your bridesmaids to spill a large glass of red wine down her front if she does this,' the commenter wrote. Ohtani's next big hit? A children's book about his dog Decoy

Injuries may have prevented Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani from throwing from the mound recently, but they haven't stopped him from coming up with a new pitch: co-writing a children's book based on his baseball-fetching dog Decoy. The three-time MVP posted a teaser on his Instagram on Thursday, featuring a picture of Decoy, a Kooikerhondje, sitting next to the fiction book that represents his first foray into the world of children's books. Of course, it's about baseball. The cover of 'Decoy Saves Opening Day' is adorned by a cartoon version of Decoy – with a baseball in his mouth – alongside the Japanese star donning his signature number 17 jersey at a baseball field. In the story, Decoy is supposed to throw the first pitch to mark the opening of the new baseball season – until he finds out he's left his baseball at home, according to the website of publisher HarperCollins. 'Can he get his ball and make it back to the stadium before it's too late?' it teased. Ohtani and his furry companion hope the book will support nonprofits helping to rehome stray and abandoned dogs, with the book to go on sale on February 3 next year, according to the website. Ohtani co-wrote the book with Michael Blank, with illustrations by Fanny Liem. In May, the Dodgers star returned to the mound to delight the crowd at Citi Field ahead of the Dodgers' game against the New York Mets, pitching for the first time in nearly two years. He underwent a procedure to repair the right ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow in 2023. During that appearance, Ohtani threw 22 pitches across five simulated plate appearances, with mostly cutters, sinkers and fastballs hovering around 94-95 mph and maxing out at 97 mph.
