Man dies trying to save buffaloes from Vande Bharat train
The incident occurred around 11am on the Nawada-Kiul section under the Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) when Gopal Yadav rushed onto the tracks to rescue the animals.

Despite his efforts, all three were hit by the semi high-speed train. The force of the collision was so intense that the man's body and the buffalo carcasses were flung several metres and the remains scattered along the tracks.
Eyewitnesses said the train was travelling at full speed when the buffaloes strayed onto the tracks. Yadav, in a desperate bid to save them, ran towards the animals but was caught in the path of the oncoming train.
The loco pilot immediately applied emergency brakes and managed to stop the train, but not before the fatal collision occurred. According to Sheikhpura police, train services were briefly disrupted for around half an hour and the front portion of the locomotive sustained partial damage.
Locals expressed strong anger and blamed railway authorities for the incident, citing a lack of basic safety measures. "This stretch is known for livestock crossings, but no fencing or barricades have been installed even after the introduction of semi high-speed trains like Vande Bharat on the route," said Surendra Ram, a neighbour of the deceased.
He added that Yadav is survived by his wife and four minor children.
Sheikhpura police station SHO Dharmendra Kumar said assistant sub-inspector Ashok Paswan visited the spot and recorded statements from locals. "The body of the victim was seized and sent for post-mortem to the local sadar hospital," he added.
Ravindra Yadav, inspector with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Mokama and currently in charge of the Kiul RPF post, said the railways would soon begin an awareness campaign in the region to discourage people from letting cattle roam freely near railway tracks.
The incident has once again raised concerns about safety along high-speed rail corridors, especially in rural and semi-urban areas where livestock often wander onto the tracks.

SC grants 4-week bail extension to Nitish Katara murder convict
The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted a four-week extension of interim bail given to Vikas Yadav, the son of former member of Parliament DP Yadav undergoing life term in the 2002 Nitish Katara murder case. Vikas Yadav is serving life term for abducting and killing Nitish Katara in February 2002. (HT Archive) The court also directed him to surrender after four weeks, saying that he will not be entitled to any further extension of bail on the ground of his mother's ailment. Further, the condition of his bail requiring him to remain confined in his house was modified and he is now allowed to accompany his mother to her hospital visits. A bench of justices MM Sundresh and K Vinod Chandran, passed the order on an application filed by Yadav seeking extension of his bail granted by the top court on April 24. This is the fourth bail extension granted by the court. On past three occasions – May 8, May 19 and June 17, bail was extended to facilitate his mother's spinal operation that took place on May 25. 'We are inclined to extend the bail granted by four weeks making it clear that no further extension on medical ground will be provided. Any application for extension (of bail) can only be filed after surrender,' the bench said. Senior advocate S Guru Krishna Kumar, appearing for Yadav, said the petitioner should not be barred from seeking extension of interim bail on other grounds. His bail was supposed to expire on July 1. The application filed by Yadav pointed out that the Delhi high court order upholding his conviction in Nitish Katara case in 2015, had slapped a fine of ₹ 50 lakh against him. To arrange the same, Yadav stated in the application that he required to dispose immovable properties located in different states, which is a time-consuming and legally intricate process. He pointed out that he does not possess an Aadhaar card as he has remained in jail for past 23 years. Additional solicitor general (ASG) Archana Pathak Dave appearing for the Delhi government informed the court that initially while granting bail, the court was told that his mother needs to be operated. Presently, she said, the operation is over and the petitioner's mother is undergoing physiotherapy. Yadav stated that after undergoing operation, his mother developed serious post-operative neurological complications such as severe radiating pain, numbness in both lower limbs, weakness, and impaired mobility. Krishna Kumar said, 'In these critical circumstances, the presence and support of the petitioner, being the elder son, is indispensable.' Advocate Vrinda Bhandari appearing for Nilam Katara, mother of Nitish Katara, pointed out that no relaxation should be granted to Yadav as due to the petitioner's influence and power, the trial was shifted out of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh to Delhi. 'So long as he is not committing any offence, what is the problem. If he violates the condition, the bail will be cancelled,' the bench observed, maintaining its order of relaxing the bail condition. While granting him bail on April 24, the top court had directed Yadav to furnish bail bond of ₹ 1 lakh with a surety of like amount and imposed a condition asking him to remain confined to his home in Murad Nagar in Ghaziabad while reporting to the local police station during the period of bail. In October 2016, the top court had upheld the conviction against Yadav and others in the 2002 Katara murder with a further direction to consider his remission on expiry of 25 years. The case pertains to the abduction of Katara from a marriage party on the intervening night of February 16 and 17, 2002, and then killing him over his alleged relationship with Bharti Yadav, Vikas's sister. In 2006, the top court shifted the trial of the case from Ghaziabad to Delhi on a petition moved by Nilam Katara. In July 2011, a Delhi court awarded life term to all the accused. This decision was upheld by the Delhi high court in 2015 and later by the Supreme Court in October 2016.

Restaurant set afire after argument over bill
Lucknow: A restaurant in Gomtinagar Extension was allegedly set afire in the early hours of June 29 following a heated argument between the staff and a group of drunk customers over a food bill. According to a complaint filed by Abhi Yadav, owner of Lucknow Darbar, a bamboo-structured eatery in Sector 4, some drunk men arrived in a car at around 1am and ordered food. However, they began arguing when asked to pay. "One of them, who had a beard, grew aggressive and warned, 'You don't know who we are. I'll be back, and your restaurant won't exist by morning,'" Yadav said in the FIR. Following the altercation, the restaurant closed for the night. Around 4:30am, one of the sleeping employees felt an inflammable liquid, believed to be diesel, spilled on him. Moments later, the entire structure was engulfed in flames. The staff managed to escape and claimed to have seen four individuals fleeing the scene on two scooters. The fire gutted the restaurant. Yadav expressed strong suspicion that the same group who earlier threatened him was responsible for the arson. The FIR was registered at Gomtinagar Vistar police station. SI Rajdeep Mishra said CCTV footage from the area are being examined, and the vehicle number is being traced. "As of now, no arrests have been made," said SHO Sudhir Awasthi. Cabbie arrested for targeting young girls after watching porn
Nagpur: In a chilling incident in Nagpur's Godhani Railway, Kolte Layout, 24-year-old cab driver Shravan Kumar Yadav was arrested by Mankapur police for attempting to kidnap a four-year-old girl and inappropriately touching a teenager on June 27. The Mankapur police scanned around 55 CCTV cameras to zero in on the accused. The accused, who claimed to have given in to his urges after watching pornography, sneaked into two homes in the early hours, targeting young girls as they slept. In the first case, at around 5am, Yadav entered a complainant's home by opening a closed rear door. He crept into the bedroom and attempted to abduct the complainant's four-year-old granddaughter. Someone in the family awoke and screamed on seeing Yadav, forcing him to abandon the child and flee. Soon afterwards, Yadav entered another home and inappropriately touched a sleeping teenager. The family awoke, and he escaped again. The Mankapur police, led by senior inspector Haresh Kalsekar, acted swiftly, scanning footage from 55 CCTV cameras in the area. A crucial clip showing a man sprinting from the scene helped identify Yadav. After laying a trap, police took him into custody, and he confessed to the crimes. A case was registered against him at Mankapur police station. "This is a serious offence, and our teams worked tirelessly to track down the culprit," said Kalsekar. "The CCTV footage was the key to nabbing him." Yadav, a resident of Kolte Layout, is now in custody as investigations continue to uncover any further offences.
