Lightning F Brandon Hagel facing disciplinary hearing
April 25 - Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel will have a disciplinary hearing with the league Friday following his hit on Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov.
Hagel received a five-minute interference penalty after laying out Barkov away from the puck at the 9:51 mark of the third period on Thursday night in Tampa. Barkov did not return to the game.
The visiting Panthers collected a 2-0 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference first-round playoff series. Florida led 1-0 at the time of Hagel's penalty and added an empty-netter by Sam Bennett in the final seconds.
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday afternoon as the series shifts to Sunrise, Fla.
Hagel, 26, has not recorded any points in this series. He set career highs in goals (35), assists (55) and points (90) and played all 82 games in the regular season.
Barkov, 29, has three assists in the series. The Finnish forward recorded 71 points (20 goals, 51 assists) in 67 games during the regular season.

Jim Delahunt runs the rule over Celtic vs St Mirren, Rangers' trip to Motherwell, all the weekend action plus his acca
MORTON won both of their Cappielow League Cup group matches by 3-0 last month and Dougie Imrie's side can make a winning start in the Championship at home to Dunfermline. Neil Lennon's visitors are slight favourites at 13/8 to bank an early 3 points on the road but the home side look big value at 9/5 and the 50/1 title outsiders can beat the 9/2 third favourites on day one. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Morton boss Dougie Imrie Credit: Kenny Ramsay 2 He'll take on Neil Lennon this weekend Credit: Kenny Ramsay The 'Ton's 3-0 wins came against League One and Two opposition but they've booked a home tie against Scottish Cup winners Aberdeen in 2 weeks time and Billy Davies has joined Imrie's backroom staff for the new campaign. The Pars host title favourites Ross County at East End Park later this month and only lost at Tynecastle after League Cup wins over Stirling, Hamilton and Dumbarton but Lennon's side may have to give best to a home side which finished 13 points above them last season. COVE won home and away in their League Cup group, as well as drawing at home to Falkirk and I'm backing Paul Hartley's players to make a winning League One start at home to Queen of the South. The home team are 6/5 to bank all 3 points at the Balmoral and they can beat a Queens side which will be glad to get back to Dumfries next Saturday after a tough League Cup group against Ross County and Partick. FALKIRK make a welcome return to the top division of Scottish football against Dundee United on Sunday and I'm backing the Bairns to make a winning start at a general 17/20, live on Sky Sports. John McGlynn has masterminded successive promotions with a side which has been partially rebuilt in the summer and the early indications in the League Cup point to continued success. Home form is going to be vital for Falkirk's Premiership survival and a successful League Cup group campaign can be the foundation for an early 3 points despite midweek European success on the road for United. The jury's out as to whether Kilmarnock have replaced the big players they lost along with Derek McInnes in the summer and I fancy newly promoted LIVINGSTON could be capable of a minor shock in the opening match of the Premiership season at Rugby Park. Killie look like going off Evens or better after drifting in the betting all week, but Davie Martindale's visitors are still available at a tempting 5/2 and better and the new look Lions have been warming up nicely in the League Cup after praise for their new MX Elite pitch. MK DONS have attracted plenty of support to win England's League Two this season and Paul Warne's charges can make a winning start to the campaign at home to Oldham at a general 7/10. Inside ex-Celtic and Scotland star's £3m property empire as free agent spends almost £1m on two properties in St Andrews The Dons have splashed their Kuwaiti cash to build a League One class side to win the division below and while the fireworks won't be expected until later in the season, Micky Mellon's National League play-off winners should be swatted aside. PLYMOUTH left the Championship with all guns blazing after taking the FA Cup scalp of Liverpool and the Pilgrims can get their League One campaign off to a winning start at home to Barnsley. Argyle are being rebuilt by Tom Cleverley and the former Watford boss can get off to a winning start at 5/4 against a Barnsley side probably bound for a mid-table finish. Newly promoted DONCASTER can get off to a flyer at 17/20 at home to Exeter and STOCKPORT can kick off an 11/2 Sunday treble with FALKIRK and HIBS by winning the 12 noon kick-off against Bolton at 19/20. Saturday SINGLE LIVINGSTON have signed well after negotiating the play-off final against Ross County and I fancy the visitors to make a winning start in Ayrshire at 5/2. Weekend ACCA Four homes and one away over the full 3 days of the football weekend with the acca paying out at 32/1. Morton 9/5 MK Dons 7/10 Hibernian 4/5 Falkirk 17/20 Hearts 11/10 CELTIC V ST MIRREN Sunday 4.30pm Sky Sports Celtic kick-off the new campaign with a repeat of last season's final fixture at home to St Mirren and the champions are a best-priced 2/5 with Bet 365 to retain their title. Saints crowned another top six finish with a 1-1 draw which looked like a win until James Forrest rescued Celtic but they're 13/2 to take a point and 14/1 to stun the flag day crowd by taking all 3 points. Stephen Robinson's side have had plenty of match practice in the League Cup but it's too early to bet against Celtic and the home side to win to NIL looks fair at EVENS with Hills. MOTHERWELL V RANGERS 5.30pm Sky Sports Rangers' midweek trip to Athens proved successful by guaranteeing Europa League Group stage football at the very least and the pressure should be off for tonight's trip to Fir Park. Jens Berthel Askou's home side are general 11/2 shots to take all 3 points with Betfred a standout 13/2 but visiting boss Russell Martin can utilise his attackers much more than he did in Greece and the general 2/5 for Gers looks about right. Euro hero Djeidi Gassama is 21/10 on the anytime scorer list and that looks a decent wager with Martin sure to give him more minutes ahead of Tuesday's latest qualifier against Viktoria Plzen at Ibrox. HEARTS V ABERDEEN Monday 8pm Sky Sports Hearts have made an impressive start to the season under Derek McInnes and I'm backing the goal-hungry Jambos to bank an early 3 points against the cup holders at Tynecastle. Despite being well-found in the early exchanges this week, Hearts can still be backed at 11/10 and that's top 5 material for me after a barrowload of goals in the League Cup. Aberdeen might need a game or two to settle down after their explosive start to last season's campaign but Jimmy Thelin's side could easily notch a goal and 7/10 BTTS looks a decent saver. DUNDEE V HIBERNIAN Sunday 3pm Hibs head for Dundee after Thursday night's Easter Road heartbreak against Midtjylland and I'm backing David Gray's players to bounce straight back with a win at 4/5. New Dens boss Steven Pressley has been making pessimistic noises after a couple of League Cup reverses but the home fans expectations remain high and the general 3/1 would have more takers if Simon Murray's fitness was guaranteed. Hibernian will take a big support north despite Thursday's last minute Euro exit and at this stage of the season. I'd be more than hopeful that Gray has the players to bounce back quickly. Here is your Thursday evening transfer bulletin as Rangers remain in contention for a marquee signing, Celtic prepare a medical for an imminent new arrival, Aberdeen bid farewell to two players and Hearts and Hibs close in on new signings... Aberdeen duo head for exit Defender Richard Jensen has departed Aberdeen in search of regular football. The 29-year-old Finnish international, joined the Dons in August 2023 from Polish side Gornik Zabrze on a three-year deal. In total, he made 41 appearances for the Pittodrie club but spent the majority of last season on loan with Danish Superlige side Vejle Boldklub. 'We thank Richard for his contributions during his time at Aberdeen', said Dons boss Jimmy Thelin. 'He has been a model professional and a valuable member of the squad however, at this stage in his career Richard wants regular game time and unfortunately, we cannot promise him that at this moment.' The Senegalese front man has arrived in Turkey for a medical having agreed a lucrative four-year deal. Conor Coady of Leicester City is still on Rangers list of transfer possibilities | Getty Images Big Rangers move still on Conor Coady could yet become a Rangers player this summer. That is according to a report which claims a deal for the Leicester City defender is still on the cards despite transfer talk cooling down in recent weeks. Russell Martin made the former England international one of his top targets following his appointment but so far a deal has not been agreed. The move looked in jeopardy when new Foxes head coach Marti Cifuentes included Coady in his squad for a pre-season camp in Austria with the 32-year-old featuring in friendlies against FC Koln and Zalaegerszegi. However, the Daily Record report that the move could still happen with Cifuentes now preparing to sanction the player's departure after initially insisting on pausing any outgoing transfer activity until he had assessed and spoken to his entire squad. Coady is claimed to still prefer a move to Govan although Wrexham have emerged as rival suitors. Celtic medical booked Celtic are set to beat a number of European clubs to the signing of Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. The 19-year-old centre-back is due to travel to Glasgow on Friday for a medical before putting pen to paper on a season-long loan deal. Simpson-Pusey stepped into the City defence last season due to injury problems, making six first-team appearances including two in the Champions League - and earned praise from head coach Pep Guardiola. The England youth international was also named EPL 2 Player of the Year after captaining the Man City reserves to the title. Celtic are also showing interest in Sweden defender Viktor Eriksson, according to a report. The Scottish Sun claim that the 24-year-old Hammarby centre-back, valued at around £2million, has been scouted by the Parkhead side. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Grant Hanley was at Easter Road with former Scotland team-mate David Marshall. Will the centre-half be a Hibs player soon? | SNS Group Hibs set to sign Scotland defender Hibs are closing in on the signing of Scotland defender Grant Hanley. The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Birmingham City earlier this summer and has held negotiations with Hibs, who are keen to reinforce their defensive options for the upcoming season. Capped 62 times by Scotland, Hanley would add experience to head coach David Gray's backline. He has been an integral part of Steve Clarke's Scotland set-up despite finding game-time limited in recent seasons at both Norwich City and Birmingham City. Born in Dumfries, Hanley has never played club football north of the border. He started his senior career at Blackburn Rovers in 2010 before moving to Newcastle United six years later. He switched to Norwich a year later and stayed until last January, becoming club captain and guiding the Canaries to promotion to the English Premier League. He was part of the Birmingham squad that won the League One title last term but made only three league starts. He was in attendance at Easter Road on Thursday night for the Europa League tie against FC Midtjylland. St Mirren signing arrives early Malik Dijksteel revealed Stephen Robinson told him what he wanted to hear as he made his move to St Mirren from Cork City ahead of schedule. The Dutch winger had recently signed a pre-contract agreement to join Saints in January following the expiry of his contract at the League of Ireland club. However, the Buddies moved to recruit Dijksteel to Paisley early on a contract until the summer of 2028 for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old, who came through the academy at Feyenoord and whose move is subject to international clearance, told 'I'm delighted. It's good that I can join now and have a full season here. It allows me to get to know the manager and get to know how he works. The manager said he wants me to be me and be the player that I am. He wants me to beat players, excite the fans and work hard. That's what you want to hear as a winger. I got to do my first session today. It's a good squad and everyone is very welcoming. The quality in the group is very good as well. I've watched some of the games on TV. You don't know until you're in it yourself, but it looks like a good level and I'm looking forward to it.' They have also struck a deal with Valur to buy Magnusson, a 22-year-old from Iceland, and McInnes is optimistic that transfer will be finalised in the coming days. 'We have done everything we can on Landry, that needs to be said. So, we have done everything on our end that we can. We're just in the land of hopefully the Home Office just rubber-stamping. We don't anticipate any issues.'

St Mirren need to 'defy the odds' again in top-six bid
Stephen Robinson is targeting a fourth consecutive top-six finish with St Mirren this season as they attempt to "defy the odds" Buddies manager believes his side have "raised expectations" and praised his players and staff prior to their opening fixture against champions Celtic on Sunday."You've got to try and do it again. Out with Rangers and Celtic, we're the only team that have had three top-six finishes, that's a huge challenge for us now," said Robinson."The landscape is getting more and more difficult to do this. When you look at the investment into the bigger clubs in the country, in reality, they should all finish in the top six."But football's not played on paper and finance books and we have to upset the odds and be in a position that if somebody doesn't do their job, that is expected of them, that we're able to take advantage of that, which we've done the last three seasons."I have huge belief in the players. We've got a core of players who have done that over the last three years. Probably 14, 15 of them have been regularly involved in that and we believe we've added more quality, more pace and different options from the bench as well that perhaps we didn't have."You need a little bit of luck, you need a little bit of fortune to go your way and if it does, why not try and do it four years in a row?"It seems to be that we are expected to get top six and people are talking that we should be challenging for Europe."That certainly isn't based on the infrastructure or the finances of the football club. It's based on the players and that's credit to them."Credit to the staff, the support staff as well because we've got a very small support staff who do a lot of work in the background that people don't see."Together as a small team but a very good team, we believe we've raised the expectations and we need to do the same again, we need to defy the odds."
