Lloyd4U Project introduces ‘hybrid intersection' at Stockwell Road

Yahoo05-06-2025
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The Lloyd4U Project is taking its next step to introduce what they call a hybrid intersection on the Lloyd Expressway at Stockwell Road.
'It is really impressive the amount of vehicles that will move through that intersection in the same amount of time and you also increase safety by removing some of those dangerous left hand turns,' Nicole Minton with the project said.
The changes come in two parts.
First, the displaced left turn will be for drivers traveling east on the Lloyd Expressway looking to turn left onto Stockwell Road.
Second, a median U-turn will replace the old left turn at the Stockwell intersection for drivers heading west on the Lloyd looking to turn left on Stockwell or head east on the Lloyd.
Drivers were able to walk through the changes at Harper Elementary and ask questions about the projects future. Some drivers were skeptical about the new look.
'I'll avoid the intersection completely,' Dennis Briggs said. 'It's just a matter of common sense.'
Briggs lives in a subdivision off Vann Avenue just west of the construction. He said trying to get from Vann to Stockwell will be dangerous.
'For the people who are not in that subdivision, it will work okay because you'll have room to move over to that left lane to make that left hand turn onto Stockwell,' he said. 'If you are coming off Vann, you are taking your life into your own hands.'
Minto said sharing those concerns was the point of the walkthroughs.
'Anytime we introduce something new, it's only natural that people are going to be a little apprehensive and it's hard to embrace things that you don't understand,' she said. 'We love to give people the opportunity to come out and learn about the intersection, learn a little bit about the why, and what they can expect when they are out there driving it for the first time.'
Officials with the project tell Eyewitness News they expect the intersection to open in two weeks.

2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Barely Costs More Than Last Year

The RAV4 is the world's best-selling car, as well as America's most popular Toyota, but in second place is the Grand Highlander, a spacious three-row SUV that will soon be joined by an all-electric Highlander little brother. In the meantime, Toyota is ensuring that the 2026 Grand Highlander will sell as strongly as its predecessor by applying a nominal price increase for the new model year. Most trims get a price bump of $500, with one excpetion now $580 pricier. With this, the Grand Highlander starts at $41,360 before the obligatory destination charge of $1,495. The entry-level trim is the LE, and as with the 2025 model, adding AWD to any trim (unless it's already equipped as standard) costs $1,600. The only change to the lineup is that the Hybrid Nightshade now gets a black badge overlay, and it seems that this alteration doesn't come free, as this is the only trim to get a slightly higher price increase of $580 to start at $53,190. As above, all pricing in the table below excludes the $1,495 destination charge for either model year. The standard engine on offer is a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder generating 265 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, while the Hybrid gets a 2.5-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric motor to produce 245 hp. At the top of the range is the Hybrid MAX powertrain, featuring a combination of the 2.4-liter turbo-four and rear-mounted electric motor that together produce a total of 362 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Related: The 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Gets Facelifted to Finally Look Interesting While the price increases are nominal, as they should be for a carryover model that is produced within the borders of the United States, they do make the Grand Highlander slightly more expensive than its Chevrolet Traverse competition, which carries a base MSRP of $40,800 for 2026 (excluding $1,895 for destination and delivery). Moreover, base model for base model, the SUV with a bowtie badge is more powerful, offering 328 hp and 326 lb-ft of torque from its 2.5-liter turbo. Meanwhile, the 2025 Kia Telluride starts at $36,390, and the 2025 Mazda CX-90 costs $38,045. With price increases likely for the 2026 variants of both these SUVs, the gap to Toyota will surely close, and we expect the Grand Highlander to continue racking strong sales for Toyota before a more significantly refreshed model arrives in the next year or so. Lexus is Set To Cut Long-Running Models Within the Next Year

Lexus hasn't initiated a significant change in its catalog in quite some time, but that familiarity is part of what draws people to the brand. The Japanese automaker is getting ready for a major shakeup, however, and is expected to discontinue several models in the coming months. The long-running Lexus IS and RC will be discontinued late this year, with production of the cars expected to end in November. While that's a bummer, especially the loss of Lexus' excellent V8 in those models, neither car is particularly modern or competitive in its class, with the IS having been on sale since 2014 without a generational update. Lexus' Japanese website states: "Thank you for considering our vehicles. Production of the IS 500 / IS 350 / IS 300h (AWD) / IS 300 / RC 350 / RC 300h, and RC 300 will end in November 2025. Sales will end once orders reach the production numbers for November. Depending on when you consider purchasing a vehicle, some packages may no longer be available. Please contact your Lexus dealer for details." The automaker is expected to release a next-generation IS as soon as 2026. Like the new ES, the IS will likely arrive with more electrified options, but the IS 500's iconic V8 probably won't return. The RC may not get a replacement, but spy shots and rumors point to a new sporty Lexus coupe in the near future. Lexus also confirmed the RC F Final Edition has sold out with the following message on its Japan site: "Thank you for your continued patronage of our products. We regret to inform you that the RC F 'Final Edition' has reached its limited number of 200 units and is now sold out. We would like to thank you for your continued patronage of the RC F. The RC 'Final Edition' will be on sale until production ends in November 2025." Other departures include the LC, which is expected to end production next year, and the UX 300e will end later this year. Reports state that the UX 300h is next, with production ending in March 2026. Related: Report: Lexus Isn't Cool With Younger Car Buyers All of this probably makes it sound like Lexus is having a tough time of things, but it's more likely that the automaker has reached a natural stopping point for those models. The new ES sedan was just announced, offering compelling new powertrain options, and the all-electric RZ just received an update with more power and faster charging. That's in addition to the brand's wildly popular gas models, which include the new GX, RX, and others. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
