Fireworks, comedy and hot air balloons: 7 things to do this weekend in the Peoria area
June is full of activities. Here are seven events you might want to check out in the Peoria area this weekend.
The Dragon's Fire Balloon Fest will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 27, and 5 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Avanti's Event Center, 3401 Griffin Ave., Pekin. Marvel at nearly a dozen hot air balloons as they float into the sky before gently returning to the ground. This community event will also feature live music by Capt. Quirk on Friday evening and the Matt Miller Band on Saturday evening, plus food trucks and beverages.
Comedians frequently featured on the hit stand-up comedy podcast "Kill Tony" will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, June 27, at the Prairie Home Alliance Theater at the Peoria Civic Center. The current lineup of performers includes Ari Matti, Hans Kim, Martin Phillips and David Jolly. Tickets start at $52 and can be purchased at www.peoriaciviccenter.com.

Five Points Washington will be hosting our annual charity bike ride, Bike for a Cause, to raise money for the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at 360 N. A special Superhero Day event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Wheels O' Time Museum, 1710 W. Woodside Drive, Dunlap. The movie, which also marks Hargitay's feature film directorial debut, follows the actress as she remembers her late mother, Hollywood bombshell Jayne Mansfield, and uncovers secrets of her family along the way. Among the revelations in the movie, as revealed by early reviewers at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, is that Hargitay's dad, Mickey Hargitay, who passed away in 2006, isn't her biological father.
