The Strawberry Moon isn't what you think it is, as tonight, the moon won't be turning pink or red. The term 'Strawberry Moon' comes from the Algonquin tribes in North America, who saw the full Moon as a signal that their strawberries were ready for harvest.
Some American tribes also call it the Berries Ripen Moon, the Green Corn Moon. Blooming Moon and Hot Moon. For those wondering, some English names include Flower Moon, Planting Moon and Mead Moon, whereas Celtic people have named it Horse Moon, Dyan Moon and Rose Moon.
The Strawberry Moon is more of a reminder of changing seasons and ancient traditions, with NASA saying that it is an indicator of how 'nature and sky once guided life below.' Since the Moon is currently near its farthest point from the Earth, it will appear as a Strawberry Micro Moon.
The full Strawberry Moon will be at its peak on Wednesday at 3:44 AM E.T or 1:14 PM IST. The Strawberry Moon is special this time, thanks to a rare phenomenon called 'major lunar standstill', which occurs every 18.6 years. During this, the Moon takes a lower path across the sky, which is why it might appear as golden or amber. This is because of the scattering effect, which will make the Moon appear warm.
Also, the Strawberry Moon may appear reddish in some areas, but this will be because short wavelengths of light get scattered, while light in the longer wavelengths, like red, will reach the viewer's eyes.
If you are living in India, the best time to witness the phenomenon will be shortly after sunset between 7:15 PM and 8:00 PM. The best view will be from a spot where light pollution is minimal and the sky is clear.
The rare phenomenon will also be visible in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Jaipur, to name a few. As it turns out, another Moon like this is not expected to show up until 2043, making it a once-in-a-lifetime event. Tomahawk: The Stealthy Stalker With a range of up to 2,400 km and a subsonic speed of 885 km/h, the Tomahawk makes up for its slower velocity by flying at ultra-low altitudes, evading radar. Its strength lies in loitering capabilities—providing real-time battle updates, switching targets mid-flight, and waiting for optimal strike conditions. Range: The Great Divide The Tomahawk's long reach (1,600–2,400 km) supports intercontinental strategy, neutralising threats far beyond immediate borders. In places like the South China Sea, even the current BrahMos variant is enough to dominate regional EEZs. Combat Pedigree: Proven vs Battle-Tested The Tomahawk has a rich combat legacy—over 2,300 missiles fired since 1991 in conflicts like the Gulf War, Syria, and Yemen. BrahMos has now earned its combat stripes. Pakistan's Prime Minister publicly acknowledged that BrahMos missiles struck strategic military locations including Rawalpindi Airport and Nur Khan airbase, and not a single missile was intercepted. The Export Revolution India is targeting USD 5 billion (approx. Rs. 41,750 crore) in annual defence exports by 2025—and BrahMos is its spearhead. The Philippines signed a USD 375 million (approx. Rs. 3,130 crore) deal. Vietnam is close to USD 700 million (approx. Rs. 5,845 crore), while Indonesia is negotiating $450 million (approx. Rs. 3,755 crore). Interest spans across Southeast Asia, South America, and the Middle East. By contrast, the Tomahawk remains exclusive to America's closest allies due to ITAR restrictions and technology sensitivity. Cost Mathematics Tomahawk: USD 1.99 million (approx. Rs. 16.6 crore) BrahMos: USD 3–4 million (approx. Rs. 25–33.4 crore) Despite the higher price tag, the cost-effectiveness of BrahMos lies in its near-zero interception risk and one-shot-one-kill precision. Its presence alone reshapes the enemy's calculus. State deploys ‘Gaja Mitras' to tackle human-jumbo conflicts
1 2 Guwahati: In a decisive move to address the escalating human-elephant conflict, the state govt has launched the Gaja Mitra initiative, deploying rapid response teams across 80 conflict zones in eight districts. These teams, comprising local villagers, will be active during the peak winter season, aiming to curb the alarming rates of human and elephant fatalities. The 80 identified human-elephant conflict "hotspots" are in eight districts — Goalpara, Udalguri, Nagaon, Baksa, Sonitpur, Golaghat, Jorhat, and Biswanath. Assam has witnessed over 1,400 human and 1,209 elephant deaths from such conflicts between 2000 and 2023, marking one of the highest tolls nationwide. The initiative follows a critical report from the Wildlife Institute of India, highlighting a crisis driven by habitat loss, electrocution, railway accidents, and retaliatory killings. The scheme focuses on voluntary, community-driven surveillance and response, ensuring that those most familiar with the landscape and patterns of elephant movement can respond quickly and effectively. The official added that to discourage elephants from entering villages and farmlands, the scheme includes the creation and restoration of local elephant habitats stocked with their preferred food, such as bamboo and Napier grass. Apart from the Gaja Mitra scheme, NFR is carrying out the installation of an AI-enabled Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to detect the movement of elephants on the train lines so that the speed of the trains can be controlled to protect the elephants. The Habaipur-Lumding section and the Kamakhya-Mirza section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) are the two sections where the Railways have completed the installation of the AI-enabled IDS and started its operation to detect the movement of elephants on the train lines.
