A council spokesperson said: "Biffa's collection crews do a brilliant job in often challenging circumstances. With some very hot temperatures expected again this week, it's important that we do our bit to help out."That's why we're asking people to remember to put their orange bags and bins out the night before collection day to make sure they are ready for the crews from 06:00."Household waste recycling centres at Gypsum Close and Freemen's Common will be open from 08:00 until 20:00 as normal, the council said.

Barming homes without water after main bursts twice in a day
Homes in Kent have been left without water after a pipe burst twice within a few hours. South East Water said just after 07:00 BST on Saturday that some customers on Tonbridge Road in Barming, near Maidstone, were experiencing no water or low pressure due to a burst saying they had fixed the issue at 18:00, the water supplier said a "few hours later" another burst happened on the same main, leaving customers with water supply issues into Sunday. The problem has since been resolved, according to South East Water. About 30 properties in the immediate vicinity were effected, it said."We are sorry to our customers and drivers who have been affected by this incident," said South East Water's Distribution Manager Garth comes after South East Water put in place a hosepipe ban for households in Kent, East Sussex and West Sussex to ensure there was enough drinking water supply for everyone.

Two rescued after 'significant' cliff fall at Budleigh Beach
Two people who were left stranded by a "significant cliff collapse" at a beach in east Devon had to be rescued by lifeboat Independent Lifeboat Station says two people were stranded on the wrong side of the cliff fall at Budleigh Beach on Saturday afternoon. They were safely taken to Budleigh Beach and crews carried out further searches, the lifeboat station said."Please remember cliffs along this stretch of coastline are unstable," it warned. It added: "Keep a safe distance from the base and the edge, and follow all local safety warnings."Sidmouth Lifeboat Station said its crews had supported Beer and Exmouth Coastguard teams, which were already on the scene. "Thank you to all volunteers and agencies involved for their swift response and teamwork," it resident Paul Westfield said a large section of the beach had since been cordoned-off and recalled there was a cliff fall at the same part of the beach in 2023.

Turkey evacuates thousands as firefighters battle wildfires
ANKARA, July 27 (Reuters) - Firefighters battled wildfires across Turkey on Sunday amid a searing Mediterranean heat-wave, with authorities evacuating more than 3,600 people from settlements in two provinces. Wildfires in the southern provinces of Mersin and Antalya as well as the central province of Usak were largely brought under control, but blazes in the northwestern province of Bursa and the northern province of Karabuk were still burning, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli told reporters. A wildfire broke out in a forested area between the Gursu and Kestel districts of Bursa, home to much of Turkey's auto industry, on Saturday. Part of a highway connecting Istanbul with the western city of Izmir was briefly closed on Saturday night due to the fire. Huge flames engulfed trees in areas close to homes in Bursa as smoke covered the sky over the city, footage showed. Some 1,765 people in Bursa's Kestel district were evacuated, Yumakli said, adding that 2,000 firefighters were struggling to battle the wildfire in the area with the help of six firefighting planes and four helicopters. In the northern province of Karabuk, where a large wildfire has been burning for five days, 1,839 people in 19 villages were evacuated, Yumakli said. Three planes and 16 helicopters are tackling the blazes in the area amid difficult conditions, he added. "We are going through risky times. This does not seem likely to end in two or three days," Yumakli said, referring to the heat-wave. Temperatures in several regions in Turkey were forecast to reach over 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 6 to 12 degrees above seasonal norms, Turkey's meteorological service said, as thermometers hit 50 degrees Celsius in the country's southeast on Saturday for the first time in recorded history.
