Bharti Singh's husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa reveals two ingredients that help him to ‘not lose weight': ‘Our ayurvedic doctor…'

Indian Express7 days ago

Comedian Bharti Singh's husband, Haarsh Limbachiyaa, recently reflected on his rapid metabolism while revealing the secret to not losing weight drastically. 'Our ayurvedic doctor has told me to slightly warm two teaspoons of ghee and have it on an empty stomach to control weight loss. I was losing a lot of weight. Then, take hot sattu or gram flour powder — as you would sip hot tea. It gives 300-350 calories in the morning itself,' Limbachiyaa told their podcast guest Ridhi Dogra.
Taking a cue from his admission, let's understand all about rapid metabolism and whether these tips work.
Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietitian and certified diabetes educator, said a rapid metabolism means your body burns calories faster than average, often due to genetics, high activity levels, or certain health conditions. 'If not managed, this can lead to unintentional weight loss, fatigue, and even nutrient deficiencies. For individuals with fast metabolisms, gaining weight is important to restore energy reserves, support immune function, and maintain healthy muscle and organ mass,' said Malhotra.
According to Malhotra, Ayurveda often recommends ghee and sattu for those experiencing unwanted weight loss due to a rapid metabolism. 'Slightly warming two teaspoons of ghee and consuming it can provide concentrated calories and healthy fats, which help nourish tissues, support digestion, and pacify vata dosha—often linked to excessive weight loss and instability in the body. Ghee is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and butyric acid, which support gut health and metabolism,' said Malhotra.
However, moderation is key, as ghee is calorie-dense and excessive intake could lead to digestive discomfort.
Sattu (roasted gram flour) is another traditional remedy. 'A hot drink made from sattu delivers 300–350 calories, high-quality plant protein, and fibre, making it ideal for those needing to increase caloric intake quickly and sustain energy through the morning. Sattu also supports digestion and helps maintain steady blood sugar levels, further aiding in healthy weight gain,' said Malhotra.
The expert further described strategies for increasing calorie intake with nutrient-dense foods, focusing on healthy fats, proteins, and complex carbohydrates, and incorporating strength training to build lean muscle. 'Consistency, adequate sleep, and gut health are also crucial for successful, sustainable weight gain,' said Malhotra.

Ayurveda gets the spotlight in new documentary, The Double Helix of Life

A powerful new documentary on Ayurveda—Ayurveda: The Double Helix of Life—just had its grand premiere in New Delhi. Clocking in at 90 minutes and shot in English, the film dives deep into how this ancient Indian system of medicine might just be the answer to some of modern healthcare's biggest challenges. The premiere took place at the Film Division Theatre. Union Minister of State for AYUSH and Health & Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, and AYUSH Secretary Rajesh Kotecha were there to do the honors, alongside a lineup of dignitaries from the health and wellness space. The film, produced by Dr. A.V. Anoop under AVA Productions in collaboration with the Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers Organisation of India (AMMOI), is directed by Vinod Mankara. Attendees included major voices in the Ayurvedic and medical world—Dr. P Ramkumar (AMMOI President), E.T. Neelakandan Moos (AMMOI Treasurer), Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya (Director General of CCRAS), Padma Shri Vaidya Balendu Prakash, Sanjay Shrivastava of Maharishi Ayurveda , and Promod Sharma from Baidyanath. So, what's the big message? That Ayurveda isn't just about herbal powders and yoga poses—it's a holistic, preventive approach backed by actual research. The film busts common myths that Ayurveda is all belief and no science, and instead shows how it's supported by over a thousand peer-reviewed studies, modern lab testing, and real-world case stories. With chronic illnesses like diabetes, arthritis, and autoimmune diseases draining healthcare systems across the U.S., Germany, and Switzerland, The Double Helix of Life argues that Ayurveda offers something mainstream medicine often lacks—prevention. And when it's supported by evidence, it's not just effective—it's cost-efficient and low on side effects too. 'Ayurveda gives us tools to not just treat, but prevent disease,' says Dr. A.V. Anoop. 'It's time to shift from managing symptoms to addressing root causes.' Director Vinod Mankara adds, 'This film isn't just about looking back at tradition—it's about looking ahead. Ayurveda is already included in wellness insurance in countries like Germany and Switzerland. In India, it's part of the Ayushman Bharat mission. It can really ease the pressure on our public health system.'

Ayush Univ to bring Ayurveda, Unani & homoeo colleges under a framework

1 2 Gorakhpur: The integrated regulation of Ayurveda, Unani, and homeopathy colleges in Uttar Pradesh will become a reality with the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University which will be formally inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on July 1. The foundation of the state's first AYUSH University was laid four years ago. Before its inception, ayurveda, unani, and homeopathy institutions were governed separately by discipline-specific bodies. "Following the central govt's initiative to unify traditional medical systems, such as Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homoeopathy, Yoga, and Naturopathy, under the AYUSH umbrella, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath envisioned a single platform for integrated medical education and regulation in the state," a govt spokesperson said. "This vision took shape in the form of the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University, which has been developed over 52 acres in Pipri, Bhathat, approximately 25 kilometers from the Gorakhpur district headquarters. The foundation stone was laid by then President Ram Nath Kovind on Aug 28, 2021, at the invitation of the Chief Minister," he said. The university currently oversees education and treatment in the disciplines of Ayurveda, Unani, and Homoeopathy. Plans are underway to include Yoga, Naturopathy, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa in the curriculum. Currently, 98 AYUSH colleges across the state, including 76 Ayurveda, 10 Unani, and 12 Homoeopathy colleges, are affiliated to the university. Since the 2021-22 academic session, the university has been conducting studies and examinations for courses such as BAMS, MD, MS (Ayurveda); BUMS, MD, MS (Unani); and BHMS, MD (Homeopathy).

Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai says the state set to become an international centre for Ayurveda

Chhattisgarh, which has a rich forest cover, is poised to become a national and international centre for Ayurveda, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said on Sunday. Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai said the Ayurvedic unit is expected to generate 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.(vishnudsai-X) He was speaking after inaugurating an advanced Ayurvedic medicine processing facility and central warehouse complex at Jamgaon in Durg district. The unit, developed by the Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce Cooperative Federation, will also have a herbal extraction set-up established through a public-private partnership with Sprayer Biotech Private Limited, he said. The CM said the unit is expected to generate 2,000 direct and indirect jobs. 'With nearly 44 per cent of Chhattisgarh's landmass under forest cover, this initiative is both a privilege and a responsibility. The raw materials for Ayurvedic formulations will be sustainably sourced from our forests, ensuring tangible economic benefits for tribal communities,' he said. He described the processing unit as the largest of its kind in Central India and a milestone that will enhance healthcare delivery while positioning Chhattisgarh as a recognised national and international centre of Ayurveda. The CM said that the state government is steadfastly fulfilling the guarantees made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Over the past 18 months, we have been resolutely advancing the state's development agenda. Every promise made to the 3 crore citizens of Chhattisgarh is being honoured with utmost priority,' Sai said. He said the government's decision to hike the procurement rate for tendu leaves from ₹ 4,500 to ₹ 5,500 per standard sack is benefiting nearly 1.3 million tendu leaf collector families. He also highlighted the revival of the 'Charan Paduka Yojana', under which protective footwear is distributed to forest workers. Five women beneficiaries received footwear during the event. Appealing to citizens to participate in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (One Tree in Mother's Name) campaign, the CM urged every individual to plant at least one sapling as a tribute to their mother and nature. Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap, who also attended the event, called the facility a vital step towards streamlining the collection, processing, and marketing of forest resources. He said that the state collects 67 varieties of minor forest produce, benefitting over 1.34 million forest-dependent families. The Ayurvedic processing unit reflects the efforts to integrate Chhattisgarh's abundant forest resources with modern scientific techniques, realising the 'Forest to Pharmacy' model, he said. Built over 27.87 acres at ₹ 36.47 crore, the facility is projected to produce ₹ 50 crore Ayurvedic products annually, said officials. Medicinal and minor forest produce like mahua, sal seeds, kalmegh, giloy, and ashwagandha will be processed into powders, syrups, oils, tablets, and avaleha under stringent quality standards, they said. The unit will also serve as a key hub for promoting the 'Chhattisgarh Herbals' brand across national and international markets. Technical training programmes will enable local youth to acquire skills and access new avenues of employment, they said. A modern warehouse with a capacity of 20,000 metric tonnes has also been constructed to facilitate long-term storage and quality control of seasonal produce. The initiative embodies PM Modi's vision of 'Vocal for Local' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', they added.
