Mokobara's Diljit Dosanjh ad: A splash of sci-fi humor and deja vu

Time of India20-06-2025
Mokobara
, the travel and lifestyle brand, has stirred up a buzz with its latest
advertisement
featuring
Diljit Dosanjh
. In a quirky mix of sci-fi humor and Bollywood-style action, the ad follows Dosanjh as he receives an unexpected galactic invite from a fictional Elon Musk to perform on Mars. Amidst interplanetary chaos and Diljit's signature charm, Mokobara cleverly spotlights its standout feature i.e. a hassle-free, "
no questions asked
"
30-day trial policy
.
However, the ad's distinct style and plot have triggered a wave of comparisons to an older, equally memorable campaign for
Carlton Luggage
. Advertising pundits and social media users alike have pointed out striking similarities. The
Carlton
campaign was famous for launching their 'Carlton Edge' sub-range, which came with a lifetime warranty that even covered airline damage, all under a 'no questions asked' policy.
The campaign, developed by
Moonshot
, fully embraces far-fetched humor and
pop-culture parody
, leveraging Dosanjh's charismatic persona to deliver a memorable, albeit outlandish, narrative. It's a clear attempt by Mokobara to position itself as a modern, design-forward brand that understands its audience's inclination.

We reached out to both Moonshot and Mokobara for comment on the campaign's creative influences, but did not receive a response at the time of publishing.
While Mokobara's ad with Diljit certainly stands out for its celebrity power and production value, the chatter around its resemblance to the Carlton campaign has added an unexpected layer to its reception. The brand officially announced Diljit Dosanjh as their brand ambassador in October 2024, a partnership that prominently featured his global 'Dil-luminati' tour.

The Fantastic Four First Steps Day 2 India Box Office: Marvel's superhero flick grows by just 40 percent on 1st Saturday after mediocre start

The Fantastic Four: First Steps, directed by Matt Shakman and starring Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Julia Garner, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and others, opened to a mediocre Rs 5.25 crore net at the India box office. The pre-release expectations were for the movie to net Rs 8-9 crore on day 1, but screen sharing issues due to strong holdover competition and new releases, along with the superhero fatigue played a spoil sport. The Fantastic Four: First Steps Grows By 40 Percent On Saturday; Nets Rs 7.35 Crore On Day 2 In India On day 2, the superhero flick grew by just 40 percent to net Rs 7.35 crore, and that's not a good sign for its legs. The weekend net collections of the movie will be in the vicinity of Rs 20 crore, and Rs 40 crore lifetime is the best it can manage, given that the screen sharing issues will persist even in week 3, with big Bollywood releases like Dhadak 2 and Son Of Sardaar 2. The Day Wise India Net Collections Of The Fantastic Four: First Steps Are As Under The Fantastic Four: First Steps Heads To Be Yet Another Marvel Underwhelmer In India The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be yet another Marvel flick to not do well in Indian theatres this year, after two duds namely Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*. Marvel doesn't necessarily have to introspect as two out of their three releases have won universal acclaim. It's just that there's a sort of an inertia and it will take a standalone Spiderman film like Spiderman: Brand New Day or Avengers: Doomsday to change everything. The Fantastic Four: First Steps' global weekend will be around USD 230 million, setting it up well for a lifetime total of over USD 600 million, and perhaps even USD 700 million. Saiyaara Box Office Day 9: Ahaan Panday's debut enters Rs 200 crore club, surpasses Housefull 5

Something quite rare is happening at the box office, Ahaan Panday's debut film Saiyaara has not just survived the second weekend slump, it's grown stronger. The Mohit Suri-directed romantic musical, co-starring Aneet Padda, has emerged as a surprise blockbuster of the year. On its second Saturday (Day 9), the film collected an estimated Rs 25.5–26.5 crore, showing a strong 40% jump from its already solid second Friday earnings of Rs 18.5 crore. That takes its total to a whopping Rs 219.25–220.25 crore, according to early estimates. What makes this more impressive? Saiyaara is now only the second Bollywood film in 2025 to cross the ₹200 crore milestone, after Chhaava. Other highly anticipated releases like Sitaare Zameen Par, Raid 2, Housefull 5, and Sikandar couldn't breach the mark. How does it compare with other 2025 hits? Here's a snapshot of the top Bollywood grossers of 2025 (so far): Chhaava – Rs 615.39 crore Saiyaara – Rs 219.25–220.25 crore (est.) Housefull 5 – Rs 198.41 crore Raid 2 – Rs 179.30 crore Sitaare Zameen Par – Rs 165.39 crore Box Office breakdown: Day by day Day 1 – Rs 22 crore Day 2 – Rs 26.25 crore Day 3 – Rs 36.25 crore Day 4 – Rs 24.25 crore Day 5 – Rs 25 crore Day 6 – Rs 22 crore Day 7 – Rs 19.50 crore Day 8 – Rs 18.50 crore Day 9 – Rs 25.5–26.5 crore (est.) What's driving the buzz around Saiyaara? A debut hero, a soulful soundtrack, and Mohit Suri's romantic storytelling seem to be the winning combo. The film's strong word-of-mouth, coupled with a young fanbase and repeat audience, is fueling its momentum. If the pace continues, Saiyaara might just give even bigger films a run for their money. All eyes are now on its 10-day total and whether it can inch closer to the Rs 250 crore milestone in Week 2.

Kishore Kumar once suffered a heart attack after his son's wedding was called off due to...

One of the finest playback singers in India was none other than Kishore Kumar. From Babul Ka Ghar to Panna Ki Tamanna Hai, Kumar gifted the nation with some of its most iconic songs. Kishore Kumar was not only a soulful singer but also a talented actor, composer, director, and producer. While Kishore Kumar's professional life was marked by continuous highs, his personal life occasionally witnessed jarring realities that nearly cost him his life. When Kishore Kumar Discovered an Earth-Shattering Truth In a recent conversation with Radio Nasha, Amit Kumar shared that in 1981, his father Kishore Kumar was elated, eagerly preparing to marry a girl from Kolkata. The wedding was planned as a grand affair, with the entire Bollywood fraternity on the guest list. However, just ten days before the ceremony, the family was struck by shocking news that turned everything upside down. According to Amit, the girl's family was well-known in Kolkata, and the marriage had been arranged. While everything was in place — wedding cards printed and celebrations underway — just ten days before the wedding, everything came to a halt when Kishore's family discovered that the bride-to-be was already married. Amit said, 'The thing was, this woman was already married. We got to know about this just ten days before the wedding, the cards were already printed.' Kishore Kumar's Health Was Adversely Affected Before this devastating revelation, Kishore had planned to get his son married and then move back to his hometown, Khandwa, to live a peaceful life. However, the incident left him deeply hurt. Amit recalled, 'Dad said, 'Do whatever you want to do. After that, you are getting married, you will get settled. I will move to Khandwa, and you guys can come and visit me.'' In the same interview, Amit Kumar recounted the painful episode of his father suffering a heart attack. He explained how Kishore Kumar's health began to deteriorate following the wedding fiasco. Kishore was unable to cope with the emotional devastation caused by the betrayal, ultimately leading to his heart attack. Though the singer recovered from the attack, his health never returned to normal. The emotional distress took a toll on him. Despite continuing to work, his health and overall appearance reportedly changed.
