Johor MB To Visit Singapore Under Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship
SINGAPORE, July 29 (Bernama) -- Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi will undertake a three-day official visit to Singapore starting Wednesday, at the invitation of Singapore Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
Singapore's Foreign Ministry said Onn Hafiz will also be visiting under the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship (LKYEF).

Onn Hafiz is the 82nd Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow and the ninth from Malaysia.
'LKYEF, established since 1991, invites outstanding individuals to visit Singapore. The Fellows are chosen based on their track record and potential to contribute to the development of their nations and the strengthening of bilateral relations with Singapore,' the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
During the visit, Onn Hafiz is scheduled to call on Singapore Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong.
He will also meet with Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Health Minister Ong Ye Kung, National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat, Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow, and LKYEF Chairman Lee Tzu Yang.
'He will receive briefings and make site visits related to urban development and hawker management,' the statement said.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said that for Sabah, he observed several key areas of specific focus, including efforts to position the state as a Blue Economy hub to attract investment in new strategic industries. 'We will also enhance flood mitigation measures for the safety and wellbeing of the people,' he said when officiating the 'Sentuhan Kasih Desa MADANI @ Lahad Datu' programme in Kampung Sapagaya here on Sunday. He said the government also plans to turn Sabah into a food production hub, thereby strengthening the role of rural areas as the backbone of national food security. When tabling the 13MP for the 2026–2030 period under the theme 'Redesigning Development', Prime Minsiter Datuk Seri Anwar Inrahim announced initiatives such as the Sarawak Hydrogen Hub and Sabah Energy Supply Assurance to strengthen energy infrastructure in both states. Under the 13MP, priority will also be given to the construction of the Sabah-Sarawak-Kalimantan road network in alignment with the relocation of Indonesia's capital to Nusantara in East Kalimantan. Emphasis is also placed on an intensive poverty eradication strategy, digital transformation, and support for the resilience of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The government remains committed to strengthening the retail network of 'Pasar Tamu' markets in Sabah and Sarawak, the development of integrated fisheries hubs, coastal and maritime tourism, as well as blue biotechnology — including upgrading bunkering facilities at Sabah ports. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said the 13MP is also a manifestation of the MADANI Government's resolve to develop basic infrastructure, strengthen entrepreneurship and enhance disaster preparedness in rural areas. MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasised the importance of high-speed railway projects, stating they will meet public demand and support Russia's expanding economy. In a video address marking Railway Workers' Day, Putin underscored their role in strengthening Russia's position as a key Eurasian logistics hub. 'I am confident that these projects matter for our people and our expanding economy. They will reinforce Russia's standing as a major logistics hub for the entire Eurasian continent by creating new opportunities for competitive international routes, including the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor,' Putin said. High-speed railways, designed for trains travelling 200–400 km/h, are new to Russia. MITRA allocates RM652k to boost Johor Indian micro-entrepreneurs
JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA) has disbursed RM652,000 to Indian micro-entrepreneurs in Johor as part of efforts to enhance economic development within the community. The funding, allocated to 128 approved applicants, includes business equipment for 38 recipients who attended the presentation ceremony. MITRA chairman P. Prabakaran stated that the initiative aligns with the Malaysia MADANI vision, focusing on uplifting socio-economic conditions for small traders requiring capital and equipment support. 'This assistance strengthens micro-entrepreneur networks and ensures the Indian community benefits from inclusive development,' he said after the event. MITRA receives an annual budget of RM100 million for nationwide community programmes. Prabakaran also highlighted three major ongoing projects worth RM21 million, covering dialysis centres, kindergartens, and an impact study. 'The dialysis programme will aid 2,000 patients, while the kindergarten initiative supports over 100,000 children,' he added. The impact study, conducted with a public university, evaluates MITRA's programme effectiveness from 2021 to 2023.
