Detroit Lions offensive line is a work in progress a year after being among nfl's best
'It's been great. Tate I thought was doing a good job. Graham was in there today and I've been comfortable with Graham for quite some time,' Lions quarterback Jared Goff said on Thursday. 'Whoever it ends up being I'll be good with.' After Ratledge saw the bulk of center reps the first three days of camp, Glasgow took the center snaps Thursday. Ratledge played only guard at Georgia except for a few practice snaps at center. So he's adjusting to the NFL game and to playing a new position.
'I think just the speed of everything happening. At guard you have a little bit of a delay being off the ball and then of course you get up here and you're going against quicker guys,' Ratledge said. He has no preference for guard or center. 'I enjoy football it doesn't matter where I am on the field,' said Ratledge, a second-round pick who sports a John Wayne tattoo on his left bicep. Coach Dan Campbell said earlier in the week that he will keep his eye on the offensive line. '(Ratledge is) getting it all at once. It's everything it is. It's the mental and it's the technique of it. So yeah look we're putting a lot on him,' Campbell said. 'He's drinking out of a fire hose right now. But there are things that we saw with him in college at Georgia that we felt like 'You know what? We think this guy can play center.''
Decker remains sidelined while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery but is expected to join the team after the Hall of Fame game on July 31. He's been on the sidelines at camp daily. 'The standard is the standard. We're expected to be one of the top offensive lines in the league,' Decker said. 'You lose big pieces but we've put those expectations on ourselves and put ourselves in a position where we're expected to perform a certain way and it doesn't matter.'
Pro Bowl right tackle Penei Sewell is healthy and practicing daily. Christian Mahogany has been a sort of utility lineman for the Lions the past couple of years. He played in seven games in 2024 and started two, including a playoff game. Kayode Awosika, who started 11 games at guard in 2024, will also contend for a starting guard spot.
NOTES: Lions LB Alex Anzalone, who has not participated in camp, was on the sidelines again Thursday in street clothes. He told reporters earlier in the week that he is disappointed the Lions have not signed him to a contract extension. INJURIES: LB Derrick Barnes (hand) and CB Terrion Arnold (leg) left practice early to be evaluated further for their injuries. … CB Ennis Rakestraw (chest) was working on the sidelines but has not practiced since he was injured on Sunday. He's expected to return within days.

Minkah Fitzpatrick Gets a $16.245 Million Signing Bonus in His Restructured Dolphins Deal
Minkah Fitzpatrick and the Miami Dolphins agreed Sunday to a restructured contract that adds a $16.245 million signing bonus to the All-Pro safety's deal. Agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed the restructured deal, which was first reported by ESPN. The Dolphins acquired Fitzpatrick in a trade with the Steelers last month that sent All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh. Fitzpatrick, who became one of the top safeties in the NFL with the Steelers, returned to the team that drafted him 11th overall in 2018 and traded him away at his request in 2019. There previously was no guaranteed money left on Fitzpatrick's contract that runs through 2026. No years were added, but Rosenhaus said they're seeking a multiyear extension. The Dolphins cleared $11 million in cap space in the restructured deal by converting part of Fitzpatrick's salary to a bonus, according to NFL Network. Fitzpatrick had $2 million of his 2026 salary moved up to this coming season. He is now due $17.5 million in 2025 and $15.6 million in 2026. Fitzpatrick had signed a four-year extension with the Steelers in 2022 that made him the highest-paid safety in the NFL at the time and gave him $36 million in guarantees.

Wide receiver George Pickens fitting in with Cowboys in training camp
OXNARD, Calif. – The Dallas Cowboys are confident George Pickens the player will be a problem for opponents because Pickens the person won't cause problems in their own locker room. That might be a surprise given Pickens's three often tumultuous seasons playing wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers before he was traded to Dallas in May. 'Like I've seen what y'all seen on film, like trust me,' wide receiver CeeDee Lamb said. 'I know what it looks like. But if you talk to this man and have a decent conversation, I guarantee you'll understand that this man is kindhearted.' Pickens, 24, had multiple notable on-field incidents in Pittsburgh to create a questionable reputation. He had two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in a Week 13 win at Cincinnati last season after having been involved in an altercation with Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome the previous week. Those occasions, along with sideline blowups at teammates and coaches, led Steelers coach Mike Tomlin to rebuke Pickens several times, memorably saying, 'He's just got to grow up, man,' after receiving two flags but avoiding being tossed against the Bengals in December. The reasons behind Pickens's public persona, Dallas players insist, come from his desire to win. 'He loves football, so that's something that you cannot question about him,' wide receiver Jalen Tolbert said. 'That speaks and jumps off the tape, obviously, and jumps off the field, and obviously in the meeting room he can do the same thing.' The Cowboys are working with Pickens to reign in his frustrations, but Lamb stressed how different Pickens is outside the lines. 'When we get on the field it's a different beast,' Lamb said. 'I expect him to be an animal. But like we have an on and off button. Everybody on this field does. On any field, honestly. It's just, man, when you're passionate about something you don't really care what the narrative is around you.' Lamb and Pickens have seemingly become fast friends, often sharing information and dance moves on the practice field. They even worked up an elaborate handshake to celebrate touchdowns, which Lamb said took two days to fully choreograph. 'He's a great receiver, he's a great person,' Lamb said. 'He's everything that the people say he isn't, and I feel like he don't get enough credit for being who he is. But you never know the situation that people are going through, so just being so quick to put a narrative on something that you don't really fully understand yet, I feel like it's kind of jumping the gun. But as for GP, man, he's a hard worker. He wants to be great. He's wanting to learn, and I love that the most about him because I'm the same way.' Despite flashing star potential while putting up solid statistics in Pittsburgh, amassing 2,841 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns even with subpar quarterback play in three seasons, Pickens was as ready as the Steelers were for a separation. As soon as he arrived in Dallas and met with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones following the trade, Pickens believed he was in the right place to redefine his career. 'I think I needed a fresh start just in terms of, like you said, people not knowing me,' Pickens said. The challenge now is making sure quarterback Dak Prescott and Pickens can develop an understanding on the field. Their timing, or lack thereof, has shown up occasionally during the first week of training camp, such as when Pickens couldn't come down with an over-the-shoulder basket catch that hit him in the hands on a deep sideline route Saturday. But once those issues are addressed, Pickens expects to form perhaps the most potent one-two receiver tandem in the NFL. 'A lot of people over the years got different type of styles of play but CeeDee's a certain type of guy and then I'm a certain type of guy, so when you mesh that together it's like Mario Bros, you see what I mean? So we can definitely do something special,' Lamb said. Lion King celebration Cornerback Kaiir Elam delivered the most memorable moment of Saturday's workout, intercepting Prescott and then celebrating by reaching over the sideline railing to grab a fan's infant to raise over his head with both hands, echoing Disney's 1994 animated hit film The Lion King. 'I'm just trying to give the people a show,' Elam said. 'I seen one of the guys who was like, 'I don't know about this kid picking up my kid.' But the kid was excited, that's all that matters.'

Qb matthew stafford to miss another week of rams training camp to rest his sore back
Quarterback Matthew Stafford will miss the second week of the Los Angeles Rams training camp to rest his sore back. The 37-year-old Stafford hasn't practiced with the Rams since the start of camp last Tuesday at Loyola Marymount University. Coach Sean McVay initially said Stafford would only miss the Rams first four practices while recovering from back soreness that had crept up in recent weeks. 'I probably spoke a little bit too soon,' McVay said Saturday after the Rams fourth practice of camp. 'But the ultimate goal is (being ready for Week 1 of the regular season against) Houston and being mindful of that so we'll take it a week at a time with him.' McVay already was planning to limit the training camp practices of Stafford and several veterans and the coach traditionally does not use any key players in Los Angeles preseason games. 'He's doing really well,' McVay said of Stafford. 'We've got a good plan in place. We are still going to take some more time with him though. Nothing has changed in terms of the setback.' Stafford is heading into his 17th NFL season and his fifth with the Rams who signed the 10th-leading passer in NFL history during the offseason to a reworked contract that substantially increases his pay. Stafford participated in the Rams offseason program. Backup Jimmy Garoppolo has run the Rams first-team offense in most practice drills so far and McVay has said third-stringer Stetson Bennett is likely to be Los Angeles primary quarterback in its three preseason games.
