Stranger than fiction: Hollywood hookups we can't believe actually happened
If there's one thing more unpredictable than a pop chart in the age of TikTok, it's celebrity romance. Hollywood has always loved a plot twist, but even the most clued-in pop culture commentators did a collective double take this week when Katy Perry was spotted dining with none other than Justin Trudeau. Yes, that Justin Trudeau, the recently single former Prime Minister of Canada. Following her public split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom, Perry appeared relaxed and radiant alongside Trudeau at cozy Montreal restaurant Le Violon. If there's one thing more unpredictable than a pop chart in the age of TikTok, it's celebrity romance. Pic:. The photo's sparked a flurry of speculation, memes, and international intrigue. It's not every day a pop superstar and an ex-world leader get cozy, but here we are. While reps for both parties did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the internet has done anything but stay quiet. Honestly, who can blame us? It's a pairing no algorithm or celebrity publicist could've predicted, but stranger things have happened in tinseltown. In honor of this eyebrow-raising rendezvous, we're taking a look back at the strangest celebrity romantic pairings that made us ask: How did this happen… and why do I kind of love it? Following her public split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom, Perry appeared relaxed and radiant alongside Trudeau at cozy Montreal restaurant Le Violon. Pic: Justin Tang/The Canadian Press via AP In early January 2023, Angelina Jolie and her teenage daughter Shiloh were spotted enjoying a cozy coffee break with Irish actor Paul Mescal at the café adjacent to London's Almeida Theatre, where he was starring in A Streetcar Named Desire. Jolie had brought Shiloh to see Mescal's performance and, afterward, the trio sat together chatting, prompting immediate buzz of an unlikely Hollywood pairing. Despite tabloid speculation linking the two romantically amid Mescal's rumored split from Phoebe Bridgers, insiders quickly clarified that the meeting was purely platonic. Still, the image of Jolie and the Normal People star sipping coffee together remains one of the more unexpected celebrity crossovers of the year. Pic: Luca Carlino/NurPhoto/REX/Shutterstock Few celebrity pairings have melted brains and ignited Reddit threads quite like Grimes and Elon Musk. The avant-garde art-pop musician and the tech billionaire reportedly connected over a shared joke on Twitter in 2018, and the rest was history. What followed was three oddly named off spring Æ A-12 initially before the couple announced a 'semi-separation' in 2021. They then went on to have two more children—Exa Dark Sideræl (via surrogate) and Techno Mechanicus. Honestly we're exhausted trying to figure them out. Pic: Dia Dipasupil/WireImage Before Rihanna was a billionaire mogul and mom of two, and before Shia LaBeouf leaned fully into his chaotic performance-artist era, the two shared one of the most blink-and-you-missed-it flings in celebrity dating history. In a 2009 interview, LaBeouf revealed that he and Rihanna went on a date after she texted him first, her team had reportedly passed along his number, and curiosity did the rest. The two met up for drinks and dinner in Los Angeles, but according to Shia, 'the spark wasn't there,' and they both agreed to keep it friendly. While it ended with zero drama and minimal headlines, the image of Rihanna sipping a cocktail across from LaBeouf in 2007 remains one of the most deliciously unlikely what-ifs in pop culture lore. The year was 1985, and Cruise was a rising star fresh off Risky Business, while Cher was already a music and film icon with nothing to prove. They met at Sean Penn and Madonna's wedding and reconnected at a White House event for dyslexia awareness, where sparks quietly flew. 'It was a great romance,' Cher later said in interviews, even ranking Cruise in her 'top five' lovers. The age gap (she was 38, he was 23), the fame mismatch, and the pure oddity of the pairing made it one of Hollywood's most delicious secrets for years. Boxing legend Chris Eubank touches down in Mayo at Knock Airport
The airport posted a picture of the former WBO middleweight and super-middleweight title winner on their social media pages. "You never know who you'll bump into at Ireland West Airport. Delighted to have Chris Eubank arrive at the airport earlier today,' it said. Known for his flamboyant persona and distinctive style, Mr Eubank recorded 45 wins (23 by knockout), five losses, and two draws from 52 fights in his professional boxing career. He has remained a celebrated figure in British boxing since retiring in 1998. He is the father of five children, including Chris Eubank Junior, who is also a professional boxer. Mr Eubank is not the first high-profile name to grace the landing strip at Ireland West Airport Knock. A few days previously, the airport welcomed comedian Jason Manford, who flew in for the start of his Irish tour. In the past decade, the airport has hosted former US President Joe Biden and the late Pope Francis. In 2015, the airport welcomed Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, whose mother, Peggy, hails from nearby Charlestown. Hopes are high in Charlestown that the reunited Gallagher brothers will visit their mother's hometown when Oasis travel to Ireland for their sold-out Croke Park shows in August.
