London Waterloo hit by severe disruption after signalling failure
South Western Railway (SWR) asked customers not to travel on its services on Monday morning in a statement posted on social media.
Passengers have been told that they will not be able to claim a taxi ride from SWR but will be allowed to use their Monday-dated tickets on Tuesday.
The train company said: 'Due to a major signalling failure at London Waterloo, please do not travel on our services this morning.
'The failure of the equipment that routes trains in and out of the station means we cannot use platforms 1 to 14 at London Waterloo at this time, significantly limiting capacity.
'Engineers are on site attempting to restore the use of the platforms, but with very few trains able to move in and out of London Waterloo and trains and crew already displaced, services across the network are severely disrupted.
'While we are hoping to restore some services later in the day, these are still likely to be subject to delays and alterations.
'Customers should please check back for updates. We are very sorry for the disruption to journeys this morning.'

Major UK railway line is shutting to ALL trains ‘until further notice' sparking chaos for 1,000s in ‘disappointing' move
A MAJOR UK railway line is shutting down all of its services 'until further notice'. The move is a blow for thousands of customers who rely on the train service, as engineers assess the safety of the route. 2 2 The Cumbrian Coast Line can take passengers all the way from Carlisle to Barrow-in-Furness. However, the line - which serves thousands of customers in Cumbria - has been forced to close due to safety inspections. Network Rail has been carrying out assessments inside the Bransty Tunnel for five days, when they made a shocking discovery. They were carrying out tests to assess the weight limits needed for the heavy plant and machinery needed for planned track and drainage renewals in August and September. However, they quickly uncovered that some areas need strengthening before work can progress. The tunnel has now be closed to all trains while urgent work to make the route safe begins. Darren Miller, Network Rail's North West route infrastructure director, said: 'We're sorry to passengers impacted by this unexpected longer closure of the railway between Whitehaven and Corkicle. 'The preparatory surveys have revealed previously unknown ground conditions which we need to investigate further so we can carry out repairs and get the line reopened as soon as possible. 'We're working closely with train operator Northern and our freight customers on alternative routes and rail replacement bus services. 'I'd encourage anyone planning to travel on the Cumbrian Coast Line to regularly check National Rail Enquiries while we work hard to restore services through Bransty Tunnel.' Top five things about the Wild Rose Holiday Park in Cumbria Craig Harrop, regional director for Northern added: 'We understand that this news is disappointing for those who rely on the Cumbrian Coast. 'We will continue to do everything we can to keep people moving along the route whilst the tunnel remains closed. "I'd like to thank our customers for bearing with us whilst this essential work takes place, and encourage everybody to check before they travel as journeys will take longer than usual." The news comes as thousands of other journeys were thrown into chaos after flights were grounded across the UK. A 'radar failure' at air traffic control meant that planes at airports in London, Edinburgh and Manchester could not take off. An estimated 577,000 passengers were affected by the outage. Services were restored last night but delays continue as airlines scramble to rearrange their schedules.

Selhurst Park consisted of: a main stand, Holmesdale was 75% terraces, Park Road was 50% mud and Whitehorse was 75% mud. A 3-3 draw and love at first sight. "A promotion season followed to a first-ever first division season with a budget Burt Head team and saw every home game . First away game was a terrifying trip tp Goodison Park where I learnt 'cockneys' are not liked north of Watford. A 3-1 thrashing but a Kember scorcher as a consolation."By the time 'Big Mal' took us to the third division, I was working and could afford a season ticket. Thanks to Maurice Drewitt's travel club, I became a home and away stalwart. We were hiring and filling entire trains and going to exotic places such as the Shay, Halifax. Every Third Division club had a record attendance when Palace were in town and many were like home games. So followed 52,000 at Selhurst, the team of the 80s and the usual collapse."What other team has had such a rollercoaster existence? Hardly a dull season and a loyal local fanbase, proud of our south London roots.
