Taliban stripped Afghan women of rights: US Report
The report addresses issues such as US aid to Afghanistan, the situation of women and girls, security, the economy, counter-narcotics efforts, recent developments, SIGAR's monitoring process, the conclusion of its mission, and the role of other US government agencies in overseeing Afghanistan's affairs.
SIGAR claims in the report that the Taliban in Afghanistan has broadly stripped Afghan women and girls of their rights over the past four years.
Abdul Sadeq Hamidzoy, a political affairs analyst, said: "International institutions have so far highlighted public concerns in their reports, but have taken no concrete action to resolve them."
According to the report, the US allocated only around USD 342 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in fiscal year 2025, a sharp drop from over USD 968 million in 2023, Tolo News reported.
This steep reduction in aid, at a time when Afghanistan's internal needs are growing, has had significant effects on people's livelihoods.
The Ministry of Economy said that US aid to Afghanistan should not be politicised and rejects the claim that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan interferes in US assistance.
Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister of Economy, stated, "The recent SIGAR report has both positive and negative aspects, but I want to emphasise two points: First, the US has politicised humanitarian aid, which contradicts humanitarian principles and international law. Second, it is alleged that the Islamic Emirate interferes in international aid, and we strongly and categorically reject this claim."
SIGAR presented its first quarterly report to the US Congress in October 2008. Now that the body has concluded its operations, the question remains: how effective and beneficial was its oversight?
Idris Mohammadi Zazai, a political affairs analyst, told Tolo News, "Since 2008, despite SIGAR's reports on administrative corruption, it was neither prevented nor eradicated."
It's worth noting that SIGAR previously stated the US has provided over USD 3.83 billion in aid to Afghanistan since 2021.

Rupee falls 11 paise to 87.29 against US dollar in early trade
Last Updated: Mumbai, Aug 4 (PTI) The rupee depreciated 11 paise to 87.29 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday, weighed down by sustained foreign fund outflows and concerns over trade tariffs. Forex traders said the weakness in the dollar index and easing crude oil prices supported the rupee at lower levels. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 87.21 and fell to an early low of 87.29 against the American currency, registering a decline of 11 paise over its previous close. On Friday, the rupee closed at 87.18 against the US dollar. 'Indian Rupee opened at 87.20 level this morning after the fall in Dollar index and is expected to be in the range of 87- 87.50," said Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP. Trump also outlined steep duties against 70 countries, raising uncertainty over trade tariffs, Bhansali said. Meanwhile, Brent crude prices fell 0.26 per cent to USD 69.49 per barrel in futures trade, as OPEC+ agreed for a production hike in September this year, while concerns over a cooling US economy and trade tariffs also weighed. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell by 0.40 per cent to 98.74. Meanwhile, the US FED Governor resigned, opening the door for US President Donald Trump to make an imprint on the Central Bank much earlier than anticipated. The US Treasury yields also fell as traders heavily scaled up bets of a FED rate cut in September. In the domestic equity market, Sensex advanced 262.08 points or 0.33 per cent to 80,861.99, while Nifty rose 98.50 points or 0.4 per cent to 24,663.85. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 3,366.40 crore on a net basis on Friday, according to exchange data. Afghanistan inks $10 billion deal for 10,000 MW power boost
Kabul: Afghanistan's Ministry of Energy and Water has signed a landmark agreement worth $10 billion with a domestic private company to implement projects aimed at generating 10,000 megawatts of electricity across the country, Tolo News reported. Describing it as a significant breakthrough, Acting Minister of Energy and Water Abdul Latif Mansoor said the deal marked a major achievement for the Islamic Emirate and a vital step toward the country's economic progress. "This is a major achievement for us. In today's world, electricity is an essential need for every individual, whether in healthcare, industry, or for families and households," Mansoor said, according to Tolo News. The agreement outlines the development of power generation projects using a mix of solar, coal, hydro, wind, and gas sources. These projects will span several Afghan provinces with the goal of enhancing the national electricity supply and reducing power shortages, particularly in industrial and residential areas. "We assure you that Afghanistan has excellent resources for generating energy from water and wind to solar and gas, these resources are all available in the country," Mansoor added, as quoted by Tolo News. Under the terms of the agreement, the technical design for the project will be finalized within six months. In its initial phase, power production is expected to begin with a capacity of 2,000 to 3,000 megawatts. Mirwais Azizi , the head of the private company, said: "This project will involve 17 to 18 foreign experts. Our goal is to train Afghans and have them make up 98% of the workforce, fully entrusting them with responsibilities." He also announced the establishment of a training center to build the professional capacity of Afghan nationals, ensuring local involvement and long-term sustainability. The energy production breakdown includes 3,400 MW from coal in provinces like Balkh, Bamiyan, Herat, and Baghlan; 3,700 MW from gas in Jawzjan, Herat, and the northern zone; 2,040 MW from hydroelectric sources in Kabul, Kapisa, and Daikundi; 700 MW from wind in Herat and Farah; and 200 MW from solar in Kabul, Kandahar, and Ghazni. According to Tolo News, the project is slated to be implemented over a six-year period from 2026 to 2032. The deal comes amid persistent electricity shortages in Afghanistan, which continue to hamper industrial development and affect daily life across urban and rural areas.

Kulgam encounter enters day 4: One terrorist neutralised, operation underway
Security forces are continuing their operation in the Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district for the fourth day. So far, one terrorist has been neutralised in the operation. The joint operation was carried out by the Indian Army, J&K police, CRPF, and the Special Operations Group (SOG).(ANI ) On Saturday, security forces neutralised one terrorist during a gunfight that continued overnight in the Akhal area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district, Chinar Corps said. In a post on X, Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said, "OP AKHAL, Kulgam. Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact." "One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far. Operation continues," post added on X. In an earlier operation by the Indian Army's White Knight Corps in the Poonch sector on July 30, two terror operatives were neutralised while attempting to infiltrate across the LoC. In its post, the White Knight Corps said, " Operation Shivashakti. In a successful anti-infiltration operation, alert troops of the Indian Army eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control. Swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs. Three weapons have been recovered. Synergistic and synchronised intelligence inputs from own intelligence units and JK Police led to a successful operation." On July 29, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed Lok Sabha that the Lashkar-e-Taiba top commander Suleman, involved in the Pahalgam terror attack, was among the three terrorists killed by security forces during the Operation Mahadev in Jammu and Kashmir. " In the Operation Mahadev, Suleman alias Faizal..., Afghan and Jibran, these three terrorists were killed in a joint operation of the Indian Army, CRPF and J&K Police... Suleman was an A-category commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Afghan was an A-category Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist. And Jibran was also an A-grade terrorist... All three terrorists who killed our citizens in the Baisaran valley have been eliminated...," Shah said during the second debate on the Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha. The three terrorists were killed in Operation Mahadev in an intense firefight with security forces in the Harwan area near Dachigam National Park of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.
