Aldar breaks ground on bespoke cold store facility for Emirates Snack Foods

ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Aldar has commenced construction of a purpose-built cold storage and distribution facility for Emirates Snack Foods (ESF), a leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) distributor in the UAE. The project, which also marks a strategic partnership between the two entities, was formally inaugurated at the Make It In The Emirates event.Located in Dubai South's Logistics District, the facility will serve as ESF's regional headquarters and is designed to consolidate its entire cold chain and office operations under one roof. The Grade A structure is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency and expedite product distribution across the UAE.Covering a leasable area of nearly 20,000 square metres, the facility will feature modern racking systems to optimise space usage, specialised insulation and humidity controls to handle a variety of temperature-sensitive products, and an automated warehouse management system to ensure real-time inventory tracking.Jassem Saleh Busaibe, Chief Executive Officer at Aldar Investment, commented: 'This build-to-suit project for Emirates Snack Foods highlights our ability to deliver best-in-class logistics facilities tailored to the needs of businesses seeking to scale their operations in the UAE. Strategically positioned near Al Maktoum International Airport and connected to Jebel Ali Port via a bounded logistics corridor, the new logistics hub is scheduled for handover in Q4 2025. It will also include state-of-the-art culinary innovation and training capabilities, reflecting ESF's forward-looking approach to operational excellence and workforce development.

Al-Sudani launched on Saturday the construction works for the first phase of the Second Beiji Gas Power Plant in Salah al-Din Province, with a total capacity of 1,014 Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted a statement from the Media Office of the Prime Minister, in which Al-Sudani commended the efforts made to prepare for the launch of this vital project, affirming that the energy sector is a cornerstone of any comprehensive development plan. He explained that the government has allocated the necessary financial resources to develop all sectors of electricity—generation, transmission, and distribution—in order to improve energy production across all regions of the project will be implemented by a consortium of Siemens Energy (Germany) and CSCEC (China). The contract includes the rehabilitation of six Siemens gas generation units, each with a capacity of 169 megawatts, for a total capacity of 1,014 also includes the establishment of a load dispatching network consisting of seven circuits at 400 kilovolts, which will feed six lines into the national grid, as well as the construction of a new 132-kilovolt network comprising 16 lines to serve Salah al-Din first two units are scheduled to be operational within 27 months, followed by the remaining units at a rate of one unit every two months. 2 Aug 2025 09:31 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)From today onwards, the AI Act obligations for providers of general-purpose AI (GPAI) models enter into application across the European directive is set to bring more transparency, safety, and accountability to AI systems on the market, with the rules clarifying information about how AI models are trained alongside better enforcement of copyright protections and more responsible AI assist providers, the European Commission published guidelines clarifying who must comply with the obligations. GPAI models are defined as those trained with over 10^23 FLOP and capable of generating language. Additionally, the commission published a template to help providers in summarising the data used to train their commission and its member states have also confirmed that the GPAI Code of Practice, developed by independent experts, is an adequate voluntary tool for providers of GPAI models to demonstrate compliance with the AI Act. Providers who sign and adhere to the code will benefit from reduced burden and increased legal must comply with transparency and copyright obligations when placing GPAI models on the EU market. Models already on the market before August 2, 2025 must ensure compliance by August 2, 2027. Providers of the most advanced or impactful models presenting systemic risks — i.e. those exceeding 10^25 FLOP — will need to meet additional obligations, such as notifying the commission and ensuring the model's safety and security. 1 Aug 2025 21:18 DUBAI (ALETIHAD) The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) organised 50 open career days focusing on recruiting UAE citizens to the private sector during the first half of 160 private companies participated in the events, which saw a widespread turnout from Emirati citizens seeking employment. Job interviews were conducted on-site with qualified Emirati candidates, led by officials from the participating showcased their available job opportunities on the Nafis platform during the open career days, which were held in collaboration with local Human Resources Departments and Neighbourhood Councils across various emirates of the UAE, in addition to the Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University, University of Dubai, and Fatima College of Health Abdulla Al Ali, Assistant Undersecretary of National Talents at MoHRE, reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to continue organising open career days, which enjoy a reputation for being highly credible and reliable among UAE citizens, employers, and companies. "This confidence stems from the fact that these events are held under direct supervision from MoHRE, which examines the nature of the job opportunities offered and the salaries, in addition to following up on employment processes after interviews to ensure participating companies are serious with their intent to hire Emiratis. We commend our partners for their efforts and support for the open career days, as well as their dedication to ensuring the events' success.''Al Ali noted that open career days offer a range of advantages, most notably providing job opportunities for UAE citizens and enabling them to have their employment interviews onsite. Additionally, they facilitate companies' compliance with Emiratisation targets by securing interviews with Emirati citizens seeking employment who possess the right skills and specialisations for the vacancies and job opportunities available. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation continues to identify suitable available jobs, in coordination with partners in the private sector, to secure employment interviews based on real opportunities, track interview results, review acceptance and employment rates, and address obstacles to ensure the best outcomes. The growing turnout from UAE citizens at the open career days also reflects their seriousness and dedication to enhancing their active participation in the sustainable development process and the national economy.
