Karnataka govt accords ‘royal felicitation' to RCB for IPL 2025 victory
Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar honoured the Rajat Patidar-led squad with traditional Mysore peta (turban), garland and a shawl.
Thousands of frenzied fans dressed in RCB jerseys waved red flags and gave a grand welcome to the new IPL champions.
The team arrived at the State secretariat an hour behind the schedule. Captain Rajat Patidar was the first player to get down from the bus, holding the trophy. The trophy was kept in front of the stage for public viewing.
On the way to the Vidhana Soudha, fans had gathered on both sides of Race Course Road. They were dancing and cheering the team, shouting 'RCB ... RCB...'
Fans, who had come from all over the city, waited patiently for several hours outside the Vidhana Soudha to see their heroes and shouted the slogan 'Ee sala cup namdu' (this year the cup is ours).
Mr. Siddaramaiah congratulated the RCB team for winning its maiden IPL title after a 17-year wait.
'I congratulate all the RCB team members, I also congratulate their fans. The whole country and the State is proud of them, RCB has never won the IPL. This is the eighteenth season, and they have won, and it has made me immensely happy,' Mr. Siddaramaiah said.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara, who oversaw the arrangements at the Secretariat, ensured tight security at the venue.
Earlier in the afternoon, the RCB team arrived in Bengaluru by a special flight. On landing at HAL airport, they were welcomed by Mr. Shivakumar. The team's most popular player, Virat Kohli, was welcomed with a Kannada flag at the airport.

The Maharaja T20 is all set to take place from August 11 to 27 and the KSCA needs to find venues with 10 days in hand. The police have withheld clearance because of the ongoing investigation into the June 4 stampede that occurred near the stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL winning celebrations. An independent CID investigation into the incident, which left 11 dead and over 50 injured, is still underway. The KSCA is now exploring alternative venues, including its facility in Alur on the outskirts of Bengaluru, as well as the Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru. Although Alur boasts excellent drainage and infrastructure, the lack of floodlights poses a significant challenge for broadcasters. According to the report, Alur is all set to host the group games of the six-day women's T20 competition, the Maharani T20, from August 4. The Karnataka State Cricket Association had been considering hosting the women's final at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, but that now appears uncertain as police approval is still pending. As the Karnataka State Cricket Association contends with the prospect of a last-minute venue change, teams have expressed frustration over the financial losses they now stand to incur. Teams had already booked hotels for players and staff based on the assumption that the entire Maharaja T20 would take place in central Bengaluru. 'For us as a team it'll be about fine tuning a lot of things and preparing for that T20 World Cup, so a great opportunity in Australia and then followed by England and if we can get closer towards another trophy, that'll be good," Markram told reporters. South Africa finished as runners-up in the last T20 World Cup in the West Indies a year ago, and Markram was the hero of their World Test Championship win over Australia in June.
