EXCLUSIVE Police launch probe after pensioner 'hurled abuse at nursery worker and smacked phone out of her hand' in vicious row over PARKING

Daily Mail4 days ago
Police have launched an investigation after a video of a pensioner hurling abuse at a female nursery worker and hitting her phone several times in a ferocious row over parking has gone viral.
Hertfordshire Constabulary has said they received reports of an elderly man holding a screwdriver, and hitting the victim's phone as she held it, but the tool can't be seen in the clip.
The woman, who says she is 21, filmed the enraged pensioner as he lashed out at her for parking outside the Silver Birch Court residential home as he pointed to the 'two notices' before adding: 'You've driven past both of 'em!'
Explaining how she had been working at the nearby nursery in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, the woman said there were 'loads of places' to park in the space - sparking the row to descend into vitriol.
'I don't give a f***! You're illegally parked, there are two notices there that tell you not to park, it's private property and you've been here all day,' he shouted.
When the nursery worker retorted claiming she had been in the space for around four hours, bringing out her timesheet, the pensioner taunted her shouting 'yap, yap, yap, yap, yap' as he gestures with his hand.
'I would have apologised if you would have asked nicely,' the woman exclaimed, while the elderly man yelled while hitting her phone three times, 'You keep f****** shouting at me you slapper, go on!'
The woman goes on: 'If you had come to me and said, "Listen darling you can't park there." I would've apologised to you. You came at me guns blazing, I'm a 21-year-old girl now get out my face and f*** off.'
After she pleads with the man to get away from her, saying she was 'scared', the pensioner sarcastically responded, while placing his hands in a prayer-like motion: 'Oh dear, please forgive me.'
As the nursery worker attempted to drive away from the confrontation, the man blocks her from shutting the door.
She said: 'Get out my car, can you move. I'm trying to shut my f****** door mate, can you move? Move so I can shut my door, you are scaring me. Please can you move!
'You've made your point now f***off home!'
After he protested how he wasn't in her car, he added: 'Why don't you apologise for your language.'
'Absolutely f*****g not,' she said, while he retorted: 'Then you're f***** stay here all day! And I'll get the fellas when they come in and they will block you in.'
Following the distributing encounter last week, residents have since controversially defended the man's behaviour urging others to not park in the area.
Speaking on Monday at the Silver Birch Court retirement complex on Friends Avenue, one woman told MailOnline: 'She was laughing and goading him. She's not a kid.
'If you go to work in a car you need to be responsible where you park it.
'People are paying £350 a month service charges and people think they can just park here?'
'He didn't need to be aggressive. The language was not very nice,' one resident added.
'There aren't enough places for the people that live here. All the carers have to park.'
A local said they were appalled by what they saw, simply branding the pensioner 'vile', while one quipped: 'If that was one of my girls he would need an ambulance.'
'I bet he would act differently if a man was there,' a fourth shared, as another chimed in: 'I understand it both sides, she shouldn't have parked there but he shouldn't have been so rude, as she said if he had been more polite it would have been different.'
Hertfordshire Constabulary told MailOnline: 'Police are investigating an incident which happened in Friends Avenue, Cheshunt, at around midday on Tuesday 2 July.
'It was reported that a man shouted aggressively at a woman in a dispute over parking.
'It was reported that he was holding a screwdriver and that he hit the victim's phone that she was holding.
'The incident is being treated as a common assault and enquiries are underway.'
Any witnesses or persons with information in relation to the incident have been urged to contact 101 quoting crime reference 41/62415/25.

Moment alleged Russian spy ‘drops off USB stick in bike seat to leak Grant Shapps's sensitive details'

THIS is the moment a man accused of being a Russian spy dropped off a USB stick - allegedly containing sensitive details about Grant Shapps - underneath a bike seat. A court has been shown photographs that allegedly see Howard Phillips, 65, delivering a secretive message for his " Russian handlers". 6 6 6 Mr Phillips is currently on trial accused of trying to spy for the Kremlin by leaking Shapps' personal information, including the location of his private plane. Pictures shown to Winchester Crown Court allegedly show him following his handlers' instructions by dropping off a message inside a USB stick in the opened seat shaft of a bike. Prosecutors alleged that Mr Phillips wanted to "offer services" to Russian intelligence but unknowingly was corresponding with undercover British security service agents - whom he believed to be from the Kremlin. Another image shows the alleged spy, and previous insolvency worker, being arrested at a Black Sheep Coffee outlet in London. Other pictures display a phone and hotel rooms he allegedly bought on behalf of the Russian "agents". The court heard how the dad of four - who was due to start a job with UK Border Force - handed the operatives a bag containing a USB stick with Shapps' personal details. These included his home address, phone number, and the location of his private plane. Mr Phillips, from Harlow, Essex, denies engaging in conduct to assist a foreign intelligence service. Prosecutors argue that the former insolvency worker boasted he could get government clearance, as a result of his new job with Border Force. The court heard how Mr Phillips said he wanted the "agents" and him to be like "family", adding they could all "help and look after each other". Moment ringleader of bed-hopping Russian spy ring is snared as cops storm UK guesthouse He also allegedly claimed to have been in Shapps' home and had met him several times. In one meeting with the "agents", Mr Phillips said: "I have something. I don't know if you want it or don't want it. "What do you know about the Secretary of Defence in the UK? Because, I have personal information which may be useful." Jurors were shown a letter Mr Phillips was allegedly handed during that same meeting, which read: "Dear Howard, thank you for your continued cooperation. Moscow very pleased with ongoing progress." He reportedly asked that, going forward, the officers refer to Moscow as "mother" in their messages. It is alleged that after this point, Mr Phillips continued to assist the supposed agents and did not withdraw his Border Force job application, which prosecutors say would have provided him with further access to Government information. A note that promised "100 per cent loyalty" to the Russian Intelligence Service (RIS) was also contained in the USB stick he allegedly dropped in the bike. 6 6 6 It also claimed Mr Phillips could move "under the radar" if he gained a valid government security vetting pass. The trial had heard previously how the dad had applied for a job with the UK Border Force in October 2023. However, he was unemployed at the time of the alleged spying, with Jocelyn Ledward KC, prosecuting, saying his "financial struggles" contributed to his "eagerness and desire" to help the RIS. Messages between Mr Phillips and the " Russian spies" began in March 2024, starting first over email before moving to WhatsApp, and eventually Signal. Shapps served as defence secretary from August 2023 to July 2024 and would have been involved in countless important communications with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The trial continues.

Horrifying moment gunman opens fire on crowded beer garden of pub leaving woman, 55, seriously injured

THIS is the horrifying moment a gunman opened fire on a crowded beer garden of a pub, leaving a woman seriously injured. Last year, Oliver Corney fired three shots into the busy beer garden of the Red Lion in Wath upon Dearne, South Yorkshire. 4 4 One of the shots fired on June 28 hit landlady Bonita Page, 55, in the leg, leaving her with serious injuries. Page was trying to break up the fight when she was caught in the crossfire. In a chilling video released by South Yorkshire Police, the first gunshot can be seen striking the ground between a small crowd of people. The second, a little further away, sends sparks flying into the air. In the third shot, a white-haired woman standing by the pub's gate can be seen doubling over before limping inside. Corney's attack followed a fight outside the pub and after firing into the crowd, Corney then fled the scene. The force's Armed Crime Team quickly launched an investigation. interviews and CCTV enquiries, Corney was nominated as a suspect. "As the local community began to provide crucial information about the incident, Corney obviously felt the net closing and handed himself in. "After refusing to provide any comment or explanation for his reckless behaviour, a positive identification from a witness of the incident and an overwhelming amount of evidence resulted in Corney being charged with possess a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and Section 18 - grievous bodily harm with intent." Man, 26, stabbed to death outside Wetherspoons pub in front of horrified public as cops hunt killer Page was badly affected by the traumatic event and has not since returned to work and is still in pain. In her personal statement the landlady now finds ordinary activities difficult and has nightmares and PTSD. Sheffield Crown Court heard, and Judge Jeremy Richardson KC said the shooter had "wrecked her life". He said Corney had "narrowly avoided a life sentence". The 34-year-old initially pleaded not guilty to the crimes in a shameless display of "remorseless behaviour" but finally he changed his plea to guilty. On Friday, July 11, at Sheffield Crown Court, Corney, of Cricket Inn Road, Sheffield, was handed an extended sentence of 16 years and nine months in prison. He must serve at least 11 years and nine months behind bars. Detective Constable Jennifer Guest, of our Armed Crime Team, said: "Corney's thoughtless actions put lots of people in danger and it is only through sheer luck that more people were not injured during this incident. "His careless behaviour has left a lasting impact on his victim and I hope this sentence provides some closure for her. "This was a thorough investigation which was helped by lots of support from the local community ultimately providing an overwhelming amount of evidence leaving Corney no choice but to plead guilty. "We are relentless in our approach to tackling firearm enabled criminality in South Yorkshire and as today's sentencing shows, anyone intent on illegally using or possessing firearms will be found and dealt with by the courts. "We need the public to continue to help us in order to keep putting these dangerous criminals behind bars, and so I would urge anyone with information on the use of firearms in South Yorkshire to get in touch with us." 4
