Tottenham could ruin Man Utd's Bryan Mbeumo transfer plan with new move

Daily Mirror2 days ago
Manchester United are hoping to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo this summer but have had two bids rejected - and Tottenham could scupper their bid if they manage to land his team-mate Yoane Wissa
Tottenham could scupper Manchester United's move for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford - by landing his striker partner first.
Spurs are looking to bolster their squad after the arrival of manager Thomas Frank from Brentford and the Dane is said to be keen to recruit Yoane Wissa from his former club.

Frank was interested in bringing Mbeumo to North London too, but the Cameroonian has his heart set on a switch to Old Trafford.

However, United have been frustrated in talks with Brentford after seeing two bids rejected for the forward - the latest being around £62.5million. Spurs have since focused their attentions on Wissa, who scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season - one less than Brentford team-mate Mbeumo.
And if they can move quickly and land a move for the dangerous striker, it could well derail United's hopes of taking Mbeumo - with the Bees loathe to lose both players at the same time.
Spurs, back in the Champions League next term, will have to stump up at least £50m to recruit the 28-year-old however, according to the Evening Standard.

Tottenham have already agreed a £55m fee with West Ham for Mohammed Kudus but Frank still wants more quality in his attack after watching Spurs finish 17th last season.
Whether £50m for Wissa would be good value for money given that he turns 29 in September, is another question however. Daniel Levy and his hierarchy have long turned away from deals for players of that age due to a lack of resale value.

Joining Spurs would appeal to Wissa offering him a taste of European football in its biggest competition. Brentford have fended off interest in him before, with Nottingham Forest already having a £22m bid rejected for him in January.
United will hope Wissa stays put to ensure they stay on track to sign Mbeumo.
Manager Ruben Amorim is desperate to overhaul his struggling attack and has already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a bid to aid the problem - with the £62.5m fee paid for the Brazil international increasingly being used by Brentford as a marker for the price tag they've slapped on Mbeumo's head.

Arsenal close in on Noni Madueke transfer as Viktor Gyokeres takes action

Arsenal have signed three new players this summer and plenty more incomings are expected before the transfer window slams shut, with Noni Madueke close to joining from Chelsea Arsenal's transfer business has ramped up in recent weeks, with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard all officially joining the club this month. And the spending is set to continue as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad. The Gunners have finished second in the last three Premier League campaigns and will be desperate to win their first league title since 2004 next season. There have also been several outgoings, with Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos joining Lazio and Cruzeiro respectively. ‌ Jorginho and Kieran Tierney have also signed for Flamengo and Celtic after their contracts expired, while the club reached an agreement with Takehiro Tomiyasu to terminate his deal a year early. ‌ And with all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer news and rumours from in and around the Emirates... Madueke move close Noni Madueke is set to become Arsenal's newest signing, with the Athletic reporting that Chelsea have given him permission to travel back to the UK for a medical. Arsenal have agreed a £52m deal for the England international, who is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal. Madueke produced 29 goal contributions in 92 appearances for Chelsea, having joined the club from PSV Eindhoven back in 2023. ‌ The 23-year-old will be Arsenal's fourth summer signing after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard. Gyokeres goes on strike Viktor Gyokeres has effectively gone on strike in an attempt to force through a move away from Sporting Lisbon this summer. ‌ Arsenal remain the favourites to sign the striker, but they have so far failed to reach an agreement with Sporting. However, Gyokeres has now refused to turn up for pre-season training in an attempt to force Sporting's hand. Portuguese outlet Record have reported that a €5m (£4.3m) gap remains between the clubs after their latest talks, with the Gunners prepared to €65m (£56m) upfront plus future payments of €5m (£4.3m) and an additional €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons. ‌ Eze latest Mirror Football understands that Arsenal are poised to make a formal approach to Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze. Eze has a £68m release clause and the Gunners have held several rounds of talks with the player's representatives, CAA Base. Arsenal are hoping they can sign Eze for less than that, but Palace have no desire to accept a lower offer. The Eagles are optimistic that Eze will remain at Selhurst Park, although the England international is open to a move away. Marcus Rashford handed exit route as Viktor Gyokeres makes shock decision

Ruben Amorim has been frustrated by slow progress on transfer deals at Manchester United after seeing just one signing - Matheus Cunha from Wolves - arriving through the door at Old Trafford Manchester United have one signing through the door this summer, but they have no plans to stop there as Ruben Amorim continues revamping his struggling squad. So far, Matheus Cunha is the only player who has arrived at Old Trafford after being signed for £62.5million and there are some frustrations from fans over the lack of progress over other deals. ‌ United are still locked in talks with Brentford over a possible move for Bryan Mbeumo but have been unable to agree a fee. ‌ There are also a number of unwanted stars like Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho whose futures need finalising as the club look to balance the books and rake in more funds for transfers. With that in mind, Mirror Football has outlined some of the biggest Manchester United transfer stories and gossip. Barcelona make Rashford "priority" target Marcus Rashford will be desperate to make his exit from United this summer after being cast aside by Amorim, forced to train by himself away from the squad at Carrington. ‌ United did give Rashford extra time to find a new club following his short loan spell at Aston Villa last season - and now the England star may have found a solution. According to Sky in Germany, Barcelona had seen a bid for Liverpool winger Luis Diaz rejected and are now prepared to go "all-in" on Rashford. ‌ The report says boss Hansi Flick has already given the green light to the move, which Barcelona hope will be a loan deal. United might also have to subsidise a portion of Rashford's wages due to the player's eye-watering £325,000-a-week wages and he is said to be willing to lower his wage demands in order to secure an exit. Gyokeres reconsidering United move For months, Manchester United were being talked about as the leading frontrunners to sign Viktor Gyokeres, due to the striker's relationship with boss Amorim. ‌ The Portuguese coach helped turn the Swedish star into one of the deadliest strikers in world football but United's failure to qualify for European football saw them fall away from contention - with Arsenal stepping up as favourites. It's understood Arsenal are offering a package of €65m (£56m) plus future payments of €5m and €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons but are around £4m off of Sporting's valuation. ‌ Sporting have asked for a "cooling off period" before restarting talks and Gyokeres has reportedly had enough of being patient and has gone on strike at the club - refusing to turn up for the start of pre-season. And now Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha have claimed Gyokeres has opened the door to United once again and is giving the Red Devils a "second look" after being forced to wait to join Arsenal. United want to add another forward player alongside Cunha and would jump at the chance to sign Gyokeres, who netted 54 goals in 52 games last season, as they continue to reach an impasse in talks for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. ‌ Mbeumo "frustrated" over transfer delay Another player who has been left impatient over a move is United target Mbeumo, who the Red Devils have been in talks to such for much of the summer so far. United have had two bids rejected for Mbeumo, the latest being one of £62.5m - the same fee they paid for Cunha. It's understood Brentford are looking for more than £60m but want the full fee paid upfront, while United want to pay it in instalments. ‌ Mbeumo was Brentford's star player last season, netting 20 goals in the Premier League and is seen as a player who could overhaul United's fortunes. But United are yet to return with a third bid and the saga is threatening to drag out even further - causing "frustration" from Mbeumo. ‌ Cameroon coach Ashu Cyprian Besong said: 'Yes, obviously he's very frustrated with how long it's taken. But he's a professional and anticipates these things. I spoke to him about a week ago and he is very calm with everything that is going on. "But of course, he's already told them he wants to go to United. He just wanted the two clubs to find an agreement, as he's very grateful for the opportunity that he's been given by Brentford in his career."

Ruben Amorim risks angering Marcus Rashford with decision on Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United are aiming to sell a crop of unwanted stars, including Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, but the latter has been allowed to return to full training with the rest of the squad Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has risked the wrath of Marcus Rashford after reportedly allowing Alejandro Garnacho to train with his team-mates at Carrington - while the England star continues to be isolated from the squad. Garnacho and Rashford both look set for exits this summer after falling out with the Portuguese boss last season. The Argentine lost his place in the team towards the end of the 2024-25 campaign and appeared irked when Amorim dropped him for the Europa League final defeat to Spurs - and suggested he was unhappy with the decision after the game. Garnacho also aimed a barb by claiming United had a "s***" season and has been linked with the likes of Napoli and Chelsea. But the 21-year-old has reportedly been given permission to resume training with the rest of his United team-mates while his future continues to be discussed, according to ESPN. He managed an impressive season individually as he scored 11 goals and assisted nine, but could not stop the team finishing 15th. He still has interest from a number of teams across Europe, including from Italy and Germany, the report adds. As for Rashford, his future looks much bleaker. The forward was sent on loan to Aston Villa in January after leaving Amorim unimpressed with his training performances while also publicly stating his desire to leave. Rashford, along with Garnacho and three other players, had extra time off to find a new club before returning to training, but returned to Carrington on Monday and Tuesday - working by himself individually. Rashford has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, who are still looking for a new winger after top target Nico Williams signed a ten-year deal with Athletic Bilbao. According to reports in Spain, Rashford would be willing to take a sizeable pay cut on his £325,000-a-week wages to move to Barca - who want a loan deal given that United are demanding a £40m fee. He is understood to have no future at Old Trafford as long as Amorim remains manager - after the coach said he would rather name his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital on the bench rather than a player who "does not give the maximum". The arrival of Matheus Cunha and the club's interest in Bryan Mbeumo further pushes him down the pecking order. Other players who have been told to find new clubs alongside Rashford and Garnacho and Jadon Sancho, who looks set to join Juventus, and Tyrell Malacia.
