GOPIZZA bets big on India: Introduces 2 new brands, puts in Rs 25 cr fresh investment to hit 100 stores

and GOPIZZA.
The company aims to open 100 outlets of all three brands together by the end of this calendar year. Both brands - Dalkomi with 2 outlets and Gochujang with one outlet - pilot first in India before going global.

"Now that we have successfully built a working business model, and by the time we operate 100 stores in India, we will be able to roll out franchising options to master franchises," he further added.
The brand, which has a presence in 3 cities - Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, plans to expand its presence to Delhi NCR, Pune, and Ahmedabad by this CY end. It was planning to touch 100 outlets by CY 24, but couldn't.
"We firmly believe that we will be able to meet our targets to open 100 stores by the CY end as now we have three different brands opening in different locations," he said.
"We were finding it difficult to meet our previously set targets as it was difficult to find the right spots for our pizza brand, but now with two other brands, we aim to meet our targets. Secondly, the global economy had a downturn in Q3 and Q4 everywhere else but India. So, we were a bit careful on what we were rolling out in each country," he further added.
The outlets of the brand, which span between 50 sq.ft to 2,000 sq.ft., find a sweet spot at 500 sq.ft.
Mapping Global Presence
The brand, which has a presence in 8 countries - Korea, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and the US - plans to enter 2-3 more by the end of this CY. Globally, it operates 1,400 stores.
"Going ahead, we plan to give the master franchise of the brand in other countries as well, like Malaysia, and will be opening soon in Mongolia," he said.
So far, Korean and Indian markets have turned profitable for the company.
"We're betting big on profitability while diving deep into various countries. We consider India as the biggest growth engine for the company," he said.
"To turn profitable in Korea, we expanded our portfolio in the B2B space to become a pizza solution company. It really took off and contributed to our bottom line heavily, whereas in India, growth is directly proportional to the number of stores we open," he explained.
At present, 75 per cent of the revenue of the brand comes from dining, and the remaining 25 per cent is contributed by delivery.
Tapping Growth
Currently, the same store growth of the brand stands at 15 per cent and EBITDA profitability at 10 per cent.
"By adding new brands to our portfolio, we plan to take our EBITDA profitability to 20 per cent in Q2 CY 26 as multiple brands under one roof will help us maintain the same OpEx and higher top line," he explained.
The brand, which plans to double its revenue numbers from Rs 50 crore last CY to Rs 100 crore this CY end, expects India to contribute 30-40 per cent of its total revenue by this CY end.

India-UK Free Trade Agreement: A $34 billion game-changer for exports and employment

A positive outcome of the tariff saga started by the US is that countries are getting together to sign deals with one another. The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom was finalised in May and has been consummated by the signing of the deal. This would be India's biggest deal signed in 10 years and UK's fourth since its exit from the EU. India has signed, with alacrity, a deal with the UK which will raise the total volume of trade to around $34 billion per annum from the present levels of around $2-25 billion. More importantly, it represents the first of many steps undertaken to sign deals with other nations to leverage mutual benefits. The India-UK FTA would eliminate duties on 99 per cent of Indian exports to England. India will gain mainly through higher exports in fish products, chemicals, jewellery, leather products, readymade garments and electronics, which are largely labour-intensive, and will in turn benefit the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) specialising in these products. Intuitively, this will be a boost for not just the SME group per se but also for employment, as such treaties are signed with other countries, too. Units in Tirupur, Surat, Ludhiana, Chennai, and cities in Assam and elsewhere would stand to gain. The present deal seeks to eliminate tariffs on a majority of products that previously faced duties ranging from 4 to 16 per cent. Exports could rise potentially by 20-40 per cent, depending on the responses of the concerned industries. From the UK's point of view, there would be free flow of goods such as automobiles, whisky and gin, among others, which will also help push up employment, thus bringing about symbiotic benefits to both countries. There would be easier access to around 64 per cent of UK's exports to India. Further, as Indian companies invest more as part of the expansion plans in the UK — it can go up to £6 billion — there would be more jobs created which can cross the 20,000 mark. The effective tariff rate for goods from the UK would come down from 15 per cent to 3 per cent, which includes duty on whisky coming down from 150 per cent to 75 per cent immediately and to 40 per cent over a period of 10 years. One area that will work well for India is agriculture, covering various crops as well as fisheries. This includes spices, vegetables, fruits and pulses. As India works to leverage the strength of its agriculture, this FTA provides space for expansion and will take us closer to the target of $100 billion which has been targeted by 2030. At the ground level, there would be streamlining of the sanitary and phytosanitary regulations in the UK, which has hitherto been a major hurdle in the export of farm products. The other significant benefit for us would be in textiles where duty-free exports would be permitted. This is significant as countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan and Cambodia have had the advantage of similar structure, making it tough for our exports, presently in the region of just $1.5 billion. This comes at an opportune time when there could be other pressures on our textile exports to the US. A similar gain can be seen in the case of engineering, where our exports were just $3.7 billion to the UK, which imports as much as $195-200 billion from the world. With the free trade agreement in place, it should be possible to double our exports to the UK. Similar benefits can be seen in pharma, electronics, software, jewellery, etc. In fact, the NHS would start to use generics manufactured by India — a big boost to the industry. At the individual level, there has also been a deal on allowing Indians to work in the UK on a temporary basis with fewer pressures on paying for social security being one of the main gains. Indians would gain from cheaper import of higher-end cars as well as chocolates and whisky, with the duties coming down substantially, thus making them more affordable. How can this deal be viewed? First, it is something which provides a thrust to our exports and hence employment. Second, furthering relations with the UK opens the door to negotiate with other nations and the EU should be next on the radar. Third, such a deal also provides a template to be followed when it comes to negotiating one with the US, already in the discussion stage. Fourth, the deal has focused on an entire array of goods and while manufacturing always looked to be on the cards, the fact that agriculture has a lot to gain is significant as we are harnessing the strength built in this sector. This will help to make the sector more commercial and farming more remunerative as such deals are struck with other nations. Finally, this deal reflects the government's strong commitment to boosting exports as part of its broader effort to integrate the Indian economy into global supply chains. As Navi Mumbai prepares to take its next step in connectivity, the Ulwe Coastal Road (UCR) has been identified as an infrastructure project that will redefine urban transport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The 5.8-kilometre six-lane road with a 1.2-kilometre elevated stretch is being constructed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (Cidco) to link Belapur to the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) at Shivaji Nagar and enhance connectivity further to the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The Ulwe Coastal Road is planned as a mega feeder road connecting Navi Mumbai to the mega infrastructure projects, according to Cidco. Starting at Amra Marg in Belapur and following the Ulwe coast to join the MTHL junction, the road will provide high-speed direct connectivity from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai, particularly for those travelling to the NMIA. The highway runs through developing areas such as Seawoods, Ulwe, Bamandongri, and Targhar, which are poised to witness aggressive growth once the Navi Mumbai airport becomes operational. The Ulwe Coastal Road is being planned with both capacity and environmental considerations. The highway will have three lanes on either side, with unhindered vehicular movement. A 1.2-kilometre elevated section will pass over sensitive mangrove areas, and a special railway overbridge will enable people to skip bottlenecks at tracks on the Nerul-Uran route. Cidco's proposal provides for smooth integration with the MTHL, giving Mumbai commuters easy access to NMIA and other nodes in Navi Mumbai. For people of Navi Mumbai, the UCR offers the much-needed connectivity to Mumbai through the MTHL, reducing travel time and decongesting roads such as Palm Beach Road and Sion-Panvel Highway. For those who would be using the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport, it provides seamless airport connectivity, crucial for economic and logistical efficiency. Urban planners anticipate the highway to boost business and residential development in Ulwe and other nodes, with better last-mile connectivity inviting investment and dissolving traffic congestion at older nodes such as Vashi and Belapur. Estimated at Rs 1,400 crore, the Ulwe Coastal Road is one of Cidco's showcase projects in sync with NMIA's phased commissioning. Tenders were issued in late 2024, and construction has begun since then. The deadline for the project is set for early 2026, coinciding with the airport's planned commissioning. The estimate involves structural components, environmental mitigation works, and road safety facilities, consistent with the challenging terrain and environmental sensitivity of the road. The significance of the road is enhanced by the two projects it will link — the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link or the Atal Setu will connect directly to UCR at Shivaji Nagar, while at the other end, the UCR offers a special route to NMIA's terminal area. This three-way connection — MTHL, UCR, NMIA — has been termed 'transformational' by officials for Thane and Panvel commuters, minimising reliance on highways in the two cities and scattering airport traffic more evenly throughout the MMR. The alignment of the road was picked to minimise ecological disruption. The elevated section going through coastal and mangrove-dominated areas in particular ensures that construction does not have direct impact on sensitive ecosystems. Cidco has also pledged compensatory afforestation and carried out environmental appraisal as part of statutory clearances. While environmental groups raise concerns about long-term effects on Ulwe's natural shoreline, authorities have stated that engineering interventions such as building on stilts and creating buffer zones will help preserve biodiversity while supporting urban development. 'The Ulwe Coastal Road is a crucial project among the various initiatives undertaken by Cidco to provide seamless connectivity to the Navi Mumbai International Airport. This six-lane road will play a vital role in connecting the Atal Setu and the Navi Mumbai International Airport. Starting from Amra Marg, the road will be linked to the interchange at Atal Setu. This road will be instrumental in the commercial success of the Navi Mumbai International Airport,' said Priya Ratambe, Public Relations Officer, Cidco.

LIC-owned stock: Shares of Paisalo Digital snapped their three-day winning run on Friday, July 25, even as Equilibrated Venture CFlow acquired a stake in the company. The selloff in the Indian stock market and profit booking after a stellar run over the last few days likely promoted a decline in the small-cap stock, which is part of Life Insurance Corporation of India's (LIC) portfolio. According to a filing shared by Paisalo Digital, the Delhi-based venture capitalist Equilibrated Venture CFlow acquired 74,70,000 shares of the company via the open market, representing a 0.82% stake. The stake was acquired by the company on July 24 and July 25, as per the filing. With this, Equilibrated Venture CFlow's stake in the LIC-owned NBFC stock rose to 16.50% from 15.67% earlier. According to the latest shareholding pattern filed by the company earlier this month, LIC owns a 1.12% stake or 77,59,511 shares. Another PSU life insurer, SBI Life Insurance, holds an 8.96% stake. The small-cap NBFC stock also remained in focus this entire week following the announcement of its Q1 results for FY26 and dividend record date.
