Texas State Preview 2025: GJ Kinne's Bobcats About to Keep Winning
The defense improved dramatically last season, the offense remained roughly the same, and … there was a shocking lack of consistency. Now the Bobcats have to beat all of the teams they're supposed to.Last year, they lost to a Georgia State squad that went 3-9 and to an Old Dominion squad that didn't go bowling. Win those types of games, and a Sun Belt title will be in play. It's time to get greedy and ask for a little bit more in Year Three under Kinne.

Texas State Bobcats Preview 2025: Offense
- There's been no problem fining quarterbacks in the portal who want to lead the attack. This year, the Bobcats have three options ready to give it a try.Gevani McCoy (Oregon State) has the most upside if he can cut down on the picks, Nate Yarnell saw plenty of work last year at Pitt, and Holden Geriner is an interesting option from Auburn.Chris Dawn is a dangerous threat on the outside - he caught six touchdown throws as part of the rotation - and transfers Mavin Anderson (Cal) and Tyrin Smith (UTEP and then Cincinnati) have the experience to fit in immediately.
- Losing all-around running back star Ismail Mahdi to Arizona hurts. Lincoln Pare is back after finishing second on the team with 554 yards and with a team-high eight scores, and Torrance Burgess added over six yards per carry on his chances.- The offensive front might be making some big changes, but it's more than solid. It's also relatively homegrown around the tackle Dorion Strawn and 327-pound guard Tellek Lockette.
Texas State Bobcats Preview 2025: Defense
- The defense was good, but when it missed, it missed big. Few teams in college football were better at coming up with tackles for loss, the pass rush was great, and the run defense was terrific at times. But when the run D was bad, it was a struggle going 1-4 when allowing 170 yards or more.- Top pass rusher Kalil Alexander is back along with fellow end Jo'Lauson Landry. These two are great on the outside, and the tackles will be okay if Syracuse transfer Michael Nwokoacha can hold up right away. The back seven is loaded up with transfers around safety Ryan Nolan, the team's second-leading tackler. The cornerbacks are a bit green, but Khamari Terrell (Oregon) will help. The linebacking corps is all about the transfers, starting with TCU's Terrence Cooks - be shocked if he's not one of the team's leading tacklers.
Texas State Bobcats Key to the Season
Score a whole lot of points. The defense was and should be better, but Texas State will still need the offense to keep its foot on the gas. In two seasons under GJ Kinne, the Bobcats are 15-2 when they score more than 31 points and 1-8 when they don't. Expect every game to be a shootout again.
Texas State Bobcats Key Player
Gevani McCoy, QB Sr.Jordan McCloud was terrific last season hitting 70% of his passes with 30 touchdown throws. He was a good runner and scored seven times, but he wasn't as dangerous on the ground as McCoy will be.Again, McCoy isn't a sure thing to grab the gig, but he can move - he ran for 328 yards and five scores in his limited time with the Beavers last year - and showed flashes with the passing game.
Texas State Bobcats Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss
Top Transfer In: Tyrin Smith, WR Sr.The fifth-year senior had a fantastic 2022 at UTEP - 71 catches for 1,039 yards and five scores - but he missed most of the following year and most of last year at Cincinnati. The veteran has a shot to be a No. 1 target if he can stay healthy.Top Transfer Out: Joshua Eaton, CB Sr.After starting as a three-year reserve at Oklahoma, Eaton turned into a strong playmaking corner for Texas State over the last two seasons. He has yet to pick off a pass, but he made 49 tackles with 13 broken-up passes for the Bobcats. Now he'll be part of the Michigan State secondary.
Texas State Bobcats Key Game
at Arkansas State, Oct. 4James Madison will be a problem, and going to Louisiana will be dangerous, but starting out the Sun Belt season on the road against the Red Wolves will be the big test case. Pull this off, and the Bobcats will be players in the conference chase. Lose, even early on, and it'll be an uphill battle in the strong West division.- 2025 Texas State Bobcats Schedule Breakdown
Texas State Bobcats Top 10 Players
1. Kalil Alexander, EDGE Sr.2. Ryan Nolan, S Jr.3. Lincoln Pare, RB Sr.4. Chris Dawn, WR Jr.5. Gevani McCoy, QB Sr.6. Jo'Lauson Landry, EDGE Soph.7. Nate Yarnell, QB Sr.8. Tyrin Smith, WR Sr.9. Dorion Strawn, OT Sr.10. Kamren Washington, DT Jr.

Texas State Bobcats 2025 Season Prediction, Win Total, What Will Happen
The team will be just fine with all the new parts and changes across the starting 22, but the schedule will be far, far more of a challenge. The trip to Arizona State is bad enough, but having to go to UTSA, Arkansas State, and Louisiana will be challenging.
But just like the last two seasons, the Bobcats will crank up enough offense to win most shootouts, but there will be just enough duds - watch out for the trip to Southern Miss - to keep this from being a Sun Belt title campaign.Set The Texas State Bobcats Win Total At … 7.5Likely Wins: Eastern Michigan, Nicholls50/50 Games: at Arkansas State, James Madison, at Louisiana, at Marshall, South Alabama, at Southern Miss, Troy, ULM, at UTSALikely Losses: at Arizona State

49ers announced slew of roster moves ahead of Thursday's training camp practice
The San Francisco 49ers are resuming their training camp on Thursday at their SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California, following a day off on Wednesday. However, before the practice began, the team announced nine roster moves. San Francisco signed running back Ameer Abdullah, quarterback Carter Bradley, wide receiver Marquez Callaway and wide receiver Andy Isabella. Abdullah, 32, earned All-Big Ten honors thrice at Nebraska before the Detroit Lions took him in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft. In his 10 seasons split between Detroit, Minnesota, Carolina and Las Vegas, he's rushed for 1,994 yards and eight touchdowns on 4.0 yards per carry while adding an addition 1,468 yards and 11 scores on 203 receptions. Bradley, 25, spent his collegiate career between Toledo (2018-21) and South Alabama (2022-23), earning All-Sun Belt honors in 2022. He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent last year and spent most of his rookie season on their practice squad. Callaway, 27, was an All-SEC receiver at Tennessee before signing with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2020. In five seasons, he's caught 83 passes for 1,069 yards and seven touchdowns, but he hasn't recorded a reception since 2022. Isabella, 28, was a star at UMass, earning All-American honors his final season. The Arizona Cardinals took him in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft, and between his time with the Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers, he's caught 33 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns. To make room for these four, San Francisco released Equanimeous St. Brown and waived offensive lineman Sebastian Gutierrez, wide receiver Malik Knowles and safety Jaylen Mahoney. St. Brown, 28, signed with the 49ers just last week after spending his first seven seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints. He was fighting for a depth spot. Gutierrez, 27, spent time with the 49ers in 2023 and 2024 but only played three offensive snaps for the team in his two separate stints. He was also fighting for a depth or practice squad spot. Knowles, 24, earned All-Big 12 honors twice at Kansas State before signing with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. He signed with 49ers in June. Mahoney, 24, signed with San Francisco last year as an undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt. He appeared in three games, playing 30 snaps (all on special teams) and recording three tackles. San Francisco also activated offensive lineman Ben Bartch from the non-football injury list. He's expected to contend for a starting spot on the offensive line now that he's back at camp. More 49ers: Free agent signing has thoroughly impressed OC Klay Kubiak early in training camp

2025 Big Ten Title Odds: 'People Are Seeing USC As The Value'
The Big Ten has suddenly become the home of College Football Playoff champions. After Michigan won it all in 2023, four teams from the Big Ten reached the College Football Playoff last season, including now-defending national champion Ohio State. The Buckeyes are co-favorites to win the 2025-26 CFP, too. Yet, interestingly, in Big Ten championship odds at Caesars Sports, early money isn't landing where many might expect. "USC is really the big story," Caesars Sports head of football trading Joey Feazel said. "USC opened 35/1 and is down to 16/1." Feazel helps dive into how bettors are playing Big Ten Conference title odds. Value Shopping Ohio State is the tidy +190 favorite to win the Big Ten title this season. Penn State is close behind at +210, then defending Big Ten champ Oregon at +340. All three of those teams, along with Indiana, reached the College Football Playoff last season. But bettors apparently want a little more bang for their buck in Big Ten football odds. Getting Southern Cal at +3500 looks pretty good right now. If you'd jumped on early with a $100 bet at 35/1, then you'd be looking at potentially $3,500 in profit with a USC conference title. "USC is fourth in ticket count, but leading the money in futures wagers," Feazel said. "A lot of action is coming in on USC. People are seeing USC as the value. "One thing we know: The Trojans have a good offense, but a defense with something to be desired. But they start out with a couple of cupcakes, and maybe they can build up from there." Southern Cal hosts FCS foe Missouri State in the Aug. 30 opener, then hosts Sun Belt outfit Georgia Southern on Sept. 6. Another popular team in Big Ten championship odds is a little less surprising to Feazel. "The Nebraska Cornhuskers are leading the ticket count. That's the case almost every year," Feazel said. "There's always some hype in the offseason that the next season is when they return to their former glory. "So there are a lot of tickets, but not necessarily a lot of money." As such, you can still get Nebraska at +3500. Parlay Play Penn State is No. 2 in ticket count and money in Caesars' Big Ten championship odds, followed by Ohio State. But those two teams' short prices — and corresponding modest payouts if either win the conference title — have bettors looking for other ways to utilize the Big Ten's top two teams. "Futures parlays are very popular now, and those two teams are very involved in those," Feazel said. For example: With the Buckeyes at +190 to win the Big Ten, if a bettor parlays that with, say, Texas +360 to win the SEC and the Buffalo Bills +625 to win the Super Bowl, the payout is significantly better. Add those three legs up in a parlay, and you've got odds of +9571, or about 96/1. So a $100 bet profits $9,571.50. However, all three legs have to get there. And as I often note: Parlays are a bookmaker's best friend. So keep that in mind. A Turtle's Pace Maryland is on the opposite side of the Big Ten championship odds coin. Almost no one believes in the Terrapins, who at +40000 (400/1) are the 16th choice at Caesars, among 18 teams. "The anti-favorite action is on Maryland. The Terrapins have gotten one bet to win the Big Ten," Feazel said. Only Northwestern and Purdue have longer Big Ten odds, both at +50000.
