Jake Tapper slams Democrats for alienating young men after podcasters mock his son
Tapper and his "Original Sin" co-author Alex Thompson were asked about the Democratic Party having a problem reaching young men on NYU Professor Scott Galloway's podcast "The Prof G Pod" and Tapper gave the example of how the liberal podcasters spoke about his son.
"I went on a left-leaning podcast, that shall remain nameless, and we were talking about my kids… and they asked me about my son and I said he's a football player, and he wants to be a policeman and their joke was, 'Oh, how does he feel about minorities?" Tapper said.
"Like, the idea that he wants to be a policeman therefore, he's racist… this is why you f---ers are losing elections," Tapper added.

"My football-playing son, who has no political views — he's 15, he thinks about World War II, and gaming and playing linebacker, that's his world — you're deciding he's a racist because he wants to be a cop.

"And why does he want to be a cop? He wants to be a cop because he wants to help people, you know, and he thinks that's the best way he can help people," Tapper said. "And that's how the Democratic Party talks to men, not just White men, but men."
"They thought Tim Walz could… translate the Democratic Party values because he hunts and fishes and drinks a beer… I find it just insane," he added. "The Democratic Party has no way of communicating with [my son], they have no entrée into his world."
President Donald Trump made significant gains among young voters in the 2024 election. Trump ran up the score with his base while narrowing traditional Democratic advantages among Black, Hispanic, and young voters.

The show Tapper declined to name is the "How Long Gone" podcast — hosted by Chris Black and Jason Stewart — which he appeared on in April. When the conversation on that program turned towards the Democratic Party's struggles and appealing to young men, Tapper broached the subject of his own son, which earned the scorn of the hosts.
When Tapper told them of his son's interest in being a police officer, the "How Long Gone" hosts broke out in laughter.
"Like, he thinks they're cool? I don't understand, what about a cop?" Black asked incredulously.
"How does he feel about minorities?" Stewart chimed in.
The two hosts responded to Tapper's latest comments on their podcast Monday, calling the CNN host a "flip-flopper" and Stewart's remark a "really funny f---ing joke."
"I think this is pretty funny and ridiculous… Jake's got a book to sell, baby, and that's the part I respect. Him choosing, willfully, to take a joke wrong, that he definitely knew what it was in the moment, I would say is only a pro move," Black said. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is back at work as President Donald Trump tries to stave off an ongoing MAGA revolt over the infamous 'Epstein files.' Bongino failed to show up to work on Friday and threatened to resign after clashing with Attorney General Pam Bondi in the White House over her handling of the case. Now, Bongino has reportedly returned to the bureau—but his long-term future in the Trump administration remains uncertain. Administration insiders say the president is privately fuming that the man he handpicked to be second in charge at the FBI had set off a MAGA firestorm last week, which forced the president to launch a full-throated defense of Bondi as his top allies attempted to mediate. 'What's going on with my 'boys' and, in some cases, 'gals?' They're all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!' Trump wrote Saturday as some of his most ardent supporters demanded Bondi be fired. 'We're on one Team, MAGA, and I don't like what's happening. We have a PERFECT Administration, THE TALK OF THE WORLD, and 'selfish people' are trying to hurt it, all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein,' he added. The MAGA-verse has been calling for Bondi head after a July 6 memo from the Justice Department and FBI found that Epstein kept no 'client list' and that he likely died by suicide, rather than being murdered, while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in 2019—the subject of whirling conspiracy theories among the president's supporters. Bondi had said in February that the client list was 'sitting on my desk' awaiting review. The clash between Bondi and Bongino stemmed from the deputy director's frustration that Bondi had overpromised but underdelivered on Epstein. But things escalated in the White House last week when Bongino was reportedly confronted about the leaking of an article suggesting he and FBI Director Kash Patel actually wanted more information released on Epstein, but were held back. Bongino denied being the source of the information. By Monday morning, after not turning up to work on Friday, it was unclear whether Bongino would return as the former podcaster considered his future if Bondi remains. However, a few hours later, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN that he did show up. Trump has said very little about Bongino as he tries to downplay the outrage within his base over the Epstein saga. On Sunday, in an apparent sign of his support for Bondi, the Attorney General was one of several cabinet members sitting near Trump and his wife in a luxury box at a FIFA game in New Jersey. House Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries told reporters on Monday that 'this was a conspiracy that Donald Trump, Pam Bondi, and these MAGA extremists have been fanning the flames of for the last several years, and now the chickens are coming home to roost.' In a bid to mitigate tensions and provide Trump's base with the answers they are seeking, some are now calling on the president to appoint a special counsel to investigate the matter and release a full report to the public. Conservative warriors such as Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk have touted former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, whom Trump had originally nominated to be attorney general, as the preferred candidate. But this would be a highly controversial choice given that a congressional ethics committee report released last year found he regularly paid women for sex; had sex with a 17-year-old; broke Florida's statutory rape laws; and frequently used illegal drugs. As MAGA acolytes demand answers, Jeffries signaled Monday that he may support congressional action to force the Trump administration's hand on releasing Epstein documents. 'The American people deserve to know the truth,' Jeffries said. 'If [the administration is] trying to hide something, as many of Donald Trump's MAGA supporters apparently believe, then the Congress should actually work hard to try to uncover the truth for the American people.'

Raskin points to Musk remarks in demanding release of Epstein files
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) doubled down on his call for the Trump administration to release more material on disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, pointing to tech billionaire Elon Musk's claims that President Trump is implicated in the alleged files. 'Elon Musk said that Donald Trump is in the Epstein files, and that's the real reason they haven't been released,' the lawmaker said Wednesday in an interview on MSNBC's 'All in with Chris Hayes,' paraphrasing comments Musk made during a public feud with the president over the massive tax and spending bill, which was signed into law July 4. Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, said the administration should release all the material it has on Epstein but, 'at the very least,' should release material related to Musk's remarks — noting the Tesla CEO spent months in the White House as a senior adviser to the president and had access to sensitive material. 'We've been hearing from Trump and [Attorney General] Pam Bondi and [FBI Director] Kash Patel and the Republicans, for years now, about all of the extraordinarily lurid things that are in there about politicians and people with extraordinary wealth and power who are on Epstein's list,' Raskin said. 'And that's what we want to see. They should release all of it.' 'At the very least, they should release those parts that were indicated by Elon Musk,' the Maryland Democrat continued, 'who, for a while, was Donald Trump's best friend and who was entrusted with the most important job in the administration — which was basically to dismantle the government of the United States — whose repercussions we're living with right now.' Earlier this week, Raskin led his fellow Democrats on the Judiciary panel in a letter asking the Justice Department to release former special counsel Jack Smith's report on the Mar-a-Lago classified documents investigation as well as any of the Epstein files that reference Trump. He accused Bondi of shielding potentially damaging information. 'This Administration has repeatedly claimed that President Trump is 'the most transparent and accessible president in American history.' So far, your DOJ has not only failed to live up to this promise, but you have also consistently hidden from the American public materials and information that may be damaging to President Trump,' Raskin wrote in a letter to Bondi, which was signed by 15 other Democrats on the committee. 'Your conduct is particularly worrisome as it appears to be part of a pattern of using the DOJ to cover up evidence of criminal wrongdoing by President Trump, including information allegedly contained in the Epstein files,' it continues. 'We write today to demand that you release the Smith report immediately, as well as any evidence mentioning or referencing Donald Trump in the Epstein files.' The letter came after the DOJ on Monday released a memo concluding Epstein died by suicide and did not keep a client list. That contradicted Musk's accusation that Trump 'is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.' The president has denied being close with Epstein and fumed over questions about the matter during a Tuesday Cabinet meeting. Former Jan. 6 committee lawyer running for Congress in Trump district
Robin Peguero, who served as investigative counsel for the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, is launching a bid to unseat Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) in Florida. 'It's time for us to write a new story for South Florida — one where hard-working families stop being forced to choose between making rent or seeing a doctor, where small businesses have access to resources and tax relief, and where we no longer get squeezed by corporations and billionaires while politicians like María Elvira Salazar do their bidding,' Peguero said in a statement on Tuesday announcing his candidacy. 'Miami deserves a representative in the House who fights for them. That's the leader I'll be.' The seat is one of 35 held by House Republicans that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said it plans to target in the 2026 midterms. Peguero was raised by a mother from Ecuador and a father from the Dominican Republic, and he has a background in law and politics. He spent time working for former Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and was also a former Miami-Dade County homicide prosecutor. He's currently a criminal law professor at St. Thomas University College of Law. Peguero is the latest Democrat to enter the race to take on the Florida Republican. Former Key Biscayne Mayor Mike Davey, accountant Alex Fornino and businessman Richard Lamondin have also launched bids to take on Salazar. The Florida Republican handily won her last election in November against Democrat Lucia Baez-Geller by more than 20 points.
