Moolenaar also expressed his disagreement with the recent choice to remove the prohibition on the sale of H20 chips to China.. "The decision to lift the ban was done for a reason I very much agree with. Selling H20s to China further extends U.S. technology as the global standard and provides valuable revenue for U.S. companies that will be used to invest in the next tech generation. However, these are not the only objectives we must achieve. The core objective of all U.S. export control restrictions to China is preventing the PLA from advancing their military capability, in this case AI, through U.S. technology," he continued, as quoted by SCCCP.

"The H20 is a stark improvement over what the Chinese can indigenously produce at scale. When, not if, these chips are diverted to a

, they will substantially upgrade their ability to run advanced AI models. Additionally, the U.S. must dominate AI software as much as it does hardware. My committee's April 2025 report showed how DeepSeek was able to illegally use access to U.S. models to develop a comparable capability. It was done at a fraction of the price and U.S. chips including the H20 were critical. DeepSeek is now free to use, essentially giving away what took U.S. companies years of research and millions of dollars," Moolenaar said. "If we are to win the AI race, we must be the global standard for both AI hardware and software while ensuring the U.S. military, not the PLA, has the advantage in AI", stated SCCCP release.
Concluding the speech, the Chairman said, "We will not allow China to use American chips to build the arsenal of authoritarianism. But we will ensure the world runs on American AI. That is the dual mission and how the United States will win the global AI future", SCCCP release noted.

Black worm disease affecting coconut plantations in Mys, Chamarajanagar districts

Mysuru: The "black worm disease" in coconut trees, also known as black-headed leaf-eating caterpillar disease, has affected growers in the twin districts of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar. This comes at a time when farmers are fetching decent prices for coconut and tender coconut crops. A large number of farmers are cultivating coconut in the twin districts, covering nearly 19,793 hectares, including 12,617 hectares in Chamarajanagar district. According to sources, about 4,679 hectares of coconut palms were affected by the disease. Farmers in Santhemarahalli, various villages of Hanur, Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajanagar district, and villages in T Narasipura, HD Kote, and Nanjangud taluks in Mysuru district were the worst sufferers. Even though the farmers are spraying pesticides and insecticides using drones, both manual and machine sprayers, the disease is not coming under control and is affecting the yield. The disease is spreading from one farm to another rapidly, even after pesticide and insecticide spraying. Scientists at Chamarajanagar Krishi Vigyan Kendra suggested that farmers adopt integrated pest management practices, including biological control and using neem-based pesticides. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo They said this pest is prevalent in coconut-growing areas both in coastal and inland regions of the state. Releasing beneficial insects like parasitoids, such as Goniozus nephantidis, to coconut trees can help control the caterpillar population in coconut-growing areas. Chamarajanagar deputy director of horticulture, Shivaprasad, said that the department has regularly undertaken awareness drives for coconut growers and initiated measures to control this pest. This caterpillar pest causes damage by creating silken galleries on leaves and consuming the green tissue, which reduces the tree's ability to photosynthesize. Massive infestation leads to defoliation and coconut palm death. The entire plantation looks scorched by this infestation, he said. "As agriculture and horticulture cultivation crops like coconut are the mainstay for most of the people in the twin districts, eking out a living, the govt must initiate all measures to prevent the spread of the disease," said Attahalli Devaraj, Mysuru District Farmers Federation vice-president.

Bail plea of six accused in Madurai property tax scam dismissed

Madurai: Taking into account that the revenue loss for Madurai corporation in the property tax scam might extend to several crores, the principal district judge in Madurai dismissed the bail plea of six people, including a suspended assistant commissioner and two temporary staff, who were arrested in connection with the case. The court was hearing the bail petitions filed by suspended assistant commissioner A Rengarajan, two temporary staff - technical assistant R Sathish, data entry operator S Karthik, and brokers - Rajesh Kumar, Saga Hussain, and Mohamed Noor, who own shops near corporation zonal offices. The public prosecutor submitted that the then corporation commissioner lodged a complaint in 2024 after he found some irregularities in the records regarding property tax assessment. Investigation revealed that Sathish, along with other accused, used the password and user ID of bill collectors and reduced the taxes for more than 150 buildings, causing a loss to the corporation. His involvement was revealed while verifying his cellphone. Apart from the petitioners, other people involved in the offence are yet to be identified. Investigation in this aspect is to be conducted in other corporation zones. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Get Your Personalized IQ Certificate Today Try Now Undo Out of 150 building owners, only 80 have been examined so far. On whose instructions the offences were committed is to be ascertained. The revenue loss caused to the corporation was estimated at Rs1.5 crore so far, and the loss may extend up to several crores. Investigation is at an early stage, said the public prosecutor while objecting to the grant of bail to the petitioners. The principal district judge, S Sivakadatcham, took note of the fact that the investigation is at a nascent stage and the prosecution has to examine the remaining building owners and other corporation employees. The judge also took note of the fact that the Madras high court directed the inspector general of police (south zone) and Madurai city commissioner of police to constitute a special investigation team to probe the scam. The judge said that if the petitioners are released on bail at this stage, there is a chance of tampering with the evidence and absconding, which will hinder the investigation. Considering all these aspects and the seriousness of the offences, the court holds that the petitioners deserve no consideration for bail at this stage, the judge said and dismissed their bail petitions on Monday.

No arrests made, Odisha AG tells HC on ‘illegal detention'

Kolkata: Odisha govt on Wednesday told Calcutta HC, which was hearing two habeas corpus pleas on two Bengali-speaking migrants detained on suspicion of being Bangladeshi, that it was "not arrest, but background checks being done". Odisha sought four weeks to file detailed report. The two migrants have now returned but demand compensation from the neighbouring state's govt for the "illegal detentions". Kalyan Banerjee, representing Bengal govt, submitted that the two persons were detained on June 30 during an identity verification drive and released on July 4, immediately after orders were passed by the HC seeking information on them. Law engrafted in the Foreigners Act 1946 authorises the civil authority to do certain things in terms of suspected persons whose citizenship is in doubt. A number of immigrants from various parts of the country were found, and the ground of suspicion was strictly in conformity with section 3 of the Foreigners Act." He added: "It was a lawful verification of the documents. It's a frivolous petition. I will file a detailed affidavit in four weeks." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa Prices in Dubai Might Be Lower Than You Think! Acharya responded: "I request you to not create such confusion. Bengalis are our neighbours; they are our brothers and sisters. Most Odiya people are very fond of Bengalis. We incidentally have a Bengali CJ now. We are not opposing you." "Please come to Puri, Mr Banerjee, I am inviting you. See how many Bengalis are there," he added. Banerjee wanted a figure from Odisha govt on the number of Bengalis detained, but Acharya stressed that the habeas corpus matter pertained to only certain people who had approached the court. "It's not a question of Odisha govt and Bengal govt... Let's not fight on small issues," the Odisha AG said, to which Banerjee replied: "These are very big issues, Mr AG. It has become a national issue." The division bench of justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Reetobroto Kumar Mitra directed the Odisha AG to file a detailed affidavit by Aug 20 and a reply in opposition by Aug 27. The matter will be heard again on Aug 29.
