World Bank supports KERA to revitalise agricultural value chain
To promote climate-resilient agriculture in Kerala, an MoU has been signed between the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) and KERA aiming to develop climate-resilient farming practices across the state's diverse agro-ecological zones, a release said.
The MoU was signed by KERA Additional Project Director Vishnu Raj and KAU Registrar Dr. A. Zakir Hussain.
'This collaboration marks a crucial milestone in Kerala's efforts to build future-ready, climate-resilient agriculture,' said Project Director Vishnu Raj.
KERA and KAU will work together to develop and promote climate-resilient agriculture (CRA) practices across Kerala's diverse agro-ecological zones, the department said.
The partnership aims to modernise soil testing laboratories, upgrade agricultural advisory systems, and pilot low-carbon rice farming technologies like Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in priority districts.
The partnership will also facilitate the establishment of the Kerala Agro Climate Research Centre (KACRC) at the Agricultural University. This initiative will strengthen climate-smart agricultural practices and promote advanced agricultural research.

Centre pushes tech-led river rejuvenation Under Namami Gange Programme
New Delhi, July 9 (UNI) River rejuvenation process is going high-tech. In a significant step toward sustainable river rejuvenation, the Centre is pushing a slew of advanced technologies and innovations for the restoration and management of India's rivers, with particular emphasis on smaller river systems. At a high-level review meeting held under the Namami Gange programme, Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, lauded the scientific depth, collaborative approach, and technological innovation demonstrated by research teams from leading Indian institutes. 'The time has come to translate research into rapid, on-ground action,' Patil said, reaffirming the government's commitment to ensuring an 'Aviral aur Nirmal Ganga' (uninterrupted and clean Ganga). The Minister directed stakeholders to scale up successful interventions and accelerate implementation across critical catchments to build a cleaner, healthier, and water-secure future for the nation. The meeting featured detailed presentations by teams from IIT (BHU) and IIT Delhi, working under two flagship innovation initiatives—Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers (SLCR) in collaboration with Denmark, and IND-RIVERS in collaboration with the Netherlands. IIT Delhi introduced a Decision Support System (DSS) for urban river rejuvenation, with a focus on the Varuna river. The system, known as the Small Rivers Management Tool (SRMT), integrates modules for population forecasting, water demand and supply estimation, sewage load analysis, and priority zone mapping for sewage treatment plants (STPs). Officials noted that the DSS is scalable and can be applied to other rivers and catchments across India. Another major highlight was the focus on Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR)—a cutting-edge technique for groundwater replenishment and drought mitigation. Plans were shared to deploy real-time hydrogeological modelling to enhance base flow in rivers through artificial recharge methods. The meeting also reviewed progress on two ambitious research projects namely hydrogeological Modelling in the Varuna Basin, and fingerprint analysis of emerging pollutants in the Ganga Basin, using technologies like FloaTEM and LC-HRMS to identify and monitor complex pollutants with high precision. IIT Delhi, under the IND-RIVERS initiative, presented a comprehensive roadmap for establishing a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in collaboration with the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the Government of the Netherlands. The proposed Centre will lead applied research, policy innovation, and serve as a hub for startup incubation and capacity building in the water sector. ClearTax unveils AI Assistant in 7 languages
Bengaluru, July 9 (UNI) In a major step toward inclusive digital taxation, fintech platform Clear today announced the nationwide rollout of ClearTax AI, a multilingual AI-powered personal tax assistant, with full regional languages including Kannada support. This marks a first in India's tax-tech sector, as the tool enables Indians to file their Income Tax Returns (ITR) in under three minutes by simply chatting in their preferred language. ClearTax AI is now live across platforms such as WhatsApp, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and the ClearTax website. Users can interact in English, Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, or Bangla. The assistant simplifies tax filing for salaried professionals, gig workers, freelancers, and first-time filers, especially those from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The AI assistant eliminates common hurdles such as complex tax terminology, form confusion, and language limitations. It automatically fetches up to 95% of data from the Income Tax Department, selects the correct ITR form and regime, applies relevant deductions, and provides round-the-clock multilingual support. Users only need to enter their PAN and upload Form 16 and broker statements. 'Our goal is to make tax filing as simple as sending a text message. ClearTax AI is built for India, solving real problems like low digital literacy, language barriers, and lack of expert help. From gig workers to first-time filers in small towns, we're helping millions of Indians file accurately and confidently, in their preferred language,' said Archit Gupta, Founder & CEO of Clear. The initiative comes against the backdrop of over 7.28 crore ITRs filed in Assessment Year 2024–25 (as of July 31, 2024), with more than half of them processed offline or with intermediary assistance, highlighting the challenges of accessibility and awareness. Clear aims to onboard 1 crore new tax filers over the next few years, particularly from underrepresented regions and segments.
