Stephen Colbert's lefty lunacy: Letters to the Editor — July 29, 2025
The Issue: The cancellation of Stephen Colbert's 'The Late Show,' which is known for its anti-Trump humor. Stephen Colbert's restriction — or perhaps elimination — of guests from the right, and his puerile attempt at humor is simply not funny ('The Left Show with Stephen Colbert,' July 27). His monologues are a sad camouflage for his political agenda: unwarranted hatred for President Trump. Advertisement Ron Goldman Brooklyn Jay Leno is spot on when he says that late-night TV hosts are alienating half their audiences ('Leno's 'left' jab at comics,' July 28). Fewer people are watching to begin with, and these overrated, overpaid clowns just keep delivering the same old liberal garbage. Advertisement I believe the legacy media has just as much to do with it as the buffoons. One can only hope that other hosts besides Colbert get canceled. Rob Feuerstein Staten Island Advertisement At the end of the day, Colbert became a cult leader. He claims to be a devout Catholic, but he delivers a message of hate every night. He had every right to pounce and make jokes about Trump, but when does it become mean rather than meaningful? Life is tough enough these days; why incite people rather than calm them and let them forget about the world for an hour? Dan Ricciardi Advertisement Brooklyn Rather than continuing to lose millions on late-night talk shows or canceling them entirely, the mainstream networks should emulate the Greg Gutfeld model on Fox. Place your host on a chair in a room surrounded by several like-minded panelists and let them riff on the news of the day for a half hour. No cavernous theater that can seat a thousand sycophants; no multi-member band protected by union contracts; and, most of all, no guests I've never heard of pushing movies I don't want to see, songs I don't want to hear or books I don't want to read. Jim Vespe Mamaroneck Every morning, the NY POSTcast offers a deep dive into the headlines with the Post's signature mix of politics, business, pop culture, true crime and everything in between. Subscribe here! Only Colbert found his jokes about Trump funny. It seems the only time the audience laughed was when Colbert did one of his ridiculous dances and made a fool of himself. Advertisement The critics may be right about Trump being responsible for Colbert's ouster. His audience has been silenced and Trump has had the last laugh. Nicholas Maffei Yonkers I watched Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' for the first time in many years. He was not funny, and the show was not entertaining. Maybe that is why it is being canceled. He was a wrestler, actor and showman with a heart of gold. But more than that, Hogan was a true patriotic American, not to mention true MAGA all the way. He was a big supporter of President Trump and at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee he ripped off his shirt in true Hulk Hogan style. He will truly be missed. My prayers go out to his family, friends and all Hulksters everywhere. Advertisement Frederick Bedell Jr. Bellerose We have lost another American icon. Nancy Mace Reveals 1 Of Her ‘Favorite' Hobbies, And It's So Cruel People Think She's ‘Sick'
After spending her days terrorizing her colleagues and constituents, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) apparently likes to unwind by doing something that's so cartoonishly evil it sounds like something 'The Simpsons' would've written for Mr. Burns. On Sunday, Mace appeared on 'Fox Report Weekend' and shared one of her new 'favorite' hobbies with host Jon Scott. 'I have to tell you, one of my favorite things to watch on YouTube these days are the court hearings where illegals are in court, and ICE shows up to drag them out of court and deport them,' Mace said, presumably while stroking a white cat on her lap like a James Bond villain. Mace, unfortunately, continued, 'I can think of nothing more American today than keeping our streets safer by getting those violent criminals out of the United States of America, and we all have Donald J. Trump to thank for it.' Mace: One of my favorite things to watch on YouTube these days are the court hearings where illegals are in court and ICE shows up to drag them out of court and deport them. I can think of nothing more American… — Acyn (@Acyn) July 27, 2025 Considering that the Trump administration's aggressive and inhumane deportation policies are unpopular with a majority of Americans, many users on X, formerly Twitter, were disgusted by Mace's remarks. This is her idea of humor. She is a sick person. — gotochelle 🇺🇸 (@gotochelle) July 28, 2025 I can think of nothing LESS shows how far America has fallen. — A Faceless Man (@FacelessMan13) July 28, 2025 That's not American. That's Nazi Germany type shit. — Machine Pun Kelly 🇺🇦 (@KellyScaletta) July 27, 2025 Nothing says 'land of the free' like cheering on courtroom deportation videos like they're cat clips. @NancyMace, maybe binge-watch some history instead. America was built by immigrants, not applause for cruelty. — Chetter 📢🗽⚖💙 Beacon for Democracy (@ChetterHub) July 27, 2025 Isn't it a little odd that Ice goes after the people who show up for Court hearings and are trying to do things right? Wouldn't you think Ice would focus on the people who aren't showing up to Court hearings first? — Dan Keitel (@Defeatdictators) July 27, 2025 Yeah, violent criminals who dont respect the law always go to court for their immigration hearing. Trump is such a weak leader he has to go for the easiest targets. People who are trying to follow the law as best they can in the situation they are in. — Manna (@OhMyManna) July 27, 2025 A longer clip of Mace's appearance on 'Fox Report Weekend,' which was obtained by The Daily Beast, shows that Mace's Dr. Evil-esque comments were prompted by a graphic featured on Scott's show that read, 'Trump Crackdown in Sanctuary Cities.' The graphic seemed to indicate that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers in New York City have risen 400% since former President Joe Biden was in office. 'Clearly, there's a new sheriff in town,' Scott said. Mace agreed before adding the fun little tidbit that she's proposed a new bill to 'defund and take tax breaks' away from so-called sanctuary cities like New York. Trump and the Republican Party have long utilized racist rhetoric implying that all undocumented people are rapists and murderers. But recent data collected by the Deportation Data Project, a group that collects immigration numbers, indicates that about 30,000 people in immigration detention do not have a criminal record, NPR reports. Last week, HuffPost's Matt Shuham described what he saw over five days in immigration court in New York City this month. One of the more shocking quotes Shuham got during his time observing at the courthouse was from an unnamed federal agent involved with immigration court arrests. 'This is fishing in a stocked pool,' the agent told Shuham. 'You tell them, 'Show up at this location,' and then they show up and you grab them.' The agent also noted that special agents who deal with more complex crimes are being pulled off their assignments to do courthouse arrests. 'If you are a criminal,' the agent added, 'now is an easier time for you.' Related... I Watched 20 Arrests In Trump's America. Here's What They Looked Like.
