Envision Energy unveils India's first race car built entirely from e-waste

Envision Energy has unveiled India's first race car made entirely from electronic waste, in collaboration with environmental nonprofit EarthDay.org.
The 'Recover-E' car is the second such vehicle globally, following a similar prototype launched at the London E-Prix in 2023.
Constructed using discarded electronics such as mobile phones, laptops, and tablets, the car is designed to demonstrate the potential of circular design and highlight the growing problem of e-waste in India. The country is the third-largest generator of e-waste globally, according to the Global E-waste Monitor 2024.
'The Recover-E car is not just a concept but a movement towards greener solutions for tomorrow,' said R P V Prasad, managing director of Envision Energy India. He added that the project is a conceptual demonstration of how future cars or car parts could be derived from e-waste.
James Mercer, commercial director at Envision Racing, said the initiative is a symbolic representation of e-waste issues and aims to prove that innovation and sustainability can coexist. Envision Racing is part of Envision Energy's Formula E team, which won the Formula E Teams' Championship in 2023.
EarthDay.org said the initiative aligns with the 55th anniversary of Earth Day and this year's global theme, 'Our Power, Our Planet.' Karuna Singh, regional director for Asia at the organisation, said the project aims to promote clean energy and circular economy practices.
While the Recover-E car is not intended for commercial production, Envision said it is meant to spark conversations around responsible consumption and reuse of waste.
Envision Energy operates in wind energy, battery storage, and green hydrogen. Its India operations are part of a broader strategy to achieve carbon neutrality across its global value chain by 2028. The company also manages a carbon-neutral fund and has engineering centres across Asia, Europe, and North America.
EarthDay.org, founded in 1970, runs environmental advocacy campaigns worldwide and claims to mobilise over one billion people annually. The Recover-E project is among its key awareness initiatives in India for 2025.

However, reports suggest that the amount will most likely be released in July by PM Modi at an event, which will be announced soon. How To Complete e-KYC? As the installment is expected to come soon, eligible farmers are required to complete before that to avoid payment failure. e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) is mandatory for all PM Kisan beneficiaries. Without it, your name may be dropped from the beneficiary list. As per the scheme's official website, 'eKYC is MANDATORY for PMKISAN Registered Farmers." This breakthrough approach, outlined in a Nature Sustainability paper, offers a cleaner solution to the existing, frequently destructive, gold recuperation methods. The age of technology, driven by quick development of AI and internet technologies, is producing e-waste at a shocking pace. In its Global E-waste Monitor (GEM) 2024 report, the UN declared that an astonishing 62 million tonnes of e-waste were produced worldwide in 2022, up 82% on 2010. By 2030, the level is set to increase by a further 32% to 82 million tonnes. This mounting mountain of thrown-away electronics destroys the environment while also valuing billions of dollars worth of valuable resources lost forever, with just 1% of world rare earth element demand being fulfilled through recycling of e-waste. The process, proven on electronic waste, natural ores, and other gold-bearing materials, consists of three critical steps: Gold Dissolution: Gold is dissolved initially with trichloroisocyanuric acid, a chemical most commonly used as a disinfectant in swimming pools, and activated with a halide catalyst to oxidize the gold in the e-waste. Gold Binding: The newly created polysulfide polymer sorbent is then added. This novel polymer selectively absorbs dissolved gold from the solution. Gold Recovery: The trapped gold is retrieved in very high purity using either pyrolysis (heating) or depolymerization of the gold-bound polymer. The polymer can also be recyclable for reuse, making the technique even more sustainable. This method is an important development towards greener primary and recycled production. Its potential for industrial-scale use could turn waste electronics into valuable material, fostering responsible global e-waste recycling. With the sheer volume of e-waste generated each year still booming—comparable to 1.55 million 40-tonne trucks lined up around the equator—this scientific advancement presents a glimmer of hope, converting erstwhile trash into a precious, recoverable treasure.
