'Haunted' Annabelle doll wasn't in US hotel room where paranormal investigator died

India Today4 days ago
A leading figure in the world of paranormal investigation was found dead in a Gettysburg hotel room on July 13 and, despite swirling rumours, the 'haunted' Annabelle doll - linked to decades of supernatural lore - was not present anywhere on the spot at that time.Dan Rivera, 54, a longtime researcher with the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), died while on tour in the US state of Pennsylvania, People reports. He participated in the 'Devils on the Run' paranormal tour, which featured alleged haunted objects, including the notorious Raggedy Ann-style doll said to be possessed by a sinister spirit.advertisementSpeaking to People, Adams County Coroner Francis Dutrow said that the Annabelle doll was not in the room when he arrived at the spot after the paranormal investigator's death. In fact, the doll was not in the hotel room at any point during his stay, Dutrow added.
Rivera had told his colleagues earlier that morning that he was feeling unwell and planned to rest in his room. His cause of death remains undetermined, with autopsy results expected in the coming weeks.Meanwhile, Pennsylvania State Police shared a report with People, wherein the agency said: 'Nothing unusual or suspicious was observed at the scene.'The Annabelle doll, according to NESPR, gained notoriety in the late 1960s after a nursing student claimed the doll in her home displayed disturbing behaviour. Paranormal legends say the toy moved on its own, left eerie messages, and turned violent - allegedly under the influence of a demonic entity. It was eventually secured by the society's founders, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who housed it in a locked display at their Connecticut museum. The tale later served as inspiration for The Conjuring universe of films, propelling Annabelle into pop culture as a symbol of cursed objects.- EndsTrending Reel

Tourist Grabs Teen, Leaves "Nail Marks" For Spot At Disney Parade

A tourist from Spain has been detained and charged with child abuse after allegedly hurting a 17-year-old girl during a packed evening parade at the Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Martha Lucia Zapata-Echeverri, 51, was taken into custody by the Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) on Monday for the offence of child abuse at Disney's Magic Kingdom in Bay Lake, Florida. At around 9:40 pm on July 21, park visitors gathered along Main Street USA close to Cinderella Castle when deputies were called to break up an "altercation" between the teenager and Zapata-Echeverri. Zapata-Echeverri allegedly grabbed the girl's arm during the fight, shortly before the amusement park's nightly parade started. The 17-year-old explained that she was standing quietly in her designated spot when Zapata-Echeverri put her hand on the teen's elbow, allegedly to provide more space, and told her in Spanish not to touch her. The tourist allegedly grabbed the teen's arm and yanked her away shortly after, leaving her visible bruises and "nail marks." According to the affidavit, the youngster was the only person hurt in the encounter, and deputies reported a "small abrasion and bruise." Authorities claimed neither security footage nor independent witnesses observed the altercation, which took place in a public area where sizable crowds were assembling before the parade. Suspect Zapata-Echeverri, who was born in Colombia but currently resides in Spain, admitted to deputies that she was trailing her daughter to watch the parade from the front of the crowd. Inconsistently, she claimed the girl had pushed her first, saying it was "her spot." However, she was unable to provide a clear explanation for how the victim got the "nail marks" and instead "pantomimed" the teenager who had pushed her. The case is primarily based on the teen's account and the visible injuries to her arm because no other witnesses or CCTV footage prove the encounter. Zapata-Echeverri was taken into custody and charged with child abuse. She was later released from the Orange County jail after posting a $2,500 (approximately Rs 2 lakh) bond. Her attorney confirmed she arrived in Central Florida on a tourist visa on July 2 and appeared in court on July 22. Zapata-Echeverri was expected to leave Florida on July 23, per WESH.

7-Month-Old Girl ‘Offered For Sex' By Mother For Rs 35,000. Snapchat Flags ‘Pay Half Now...' Deal

Last Updated: Morgan Stapp is accused of allegedly telling a man on Snapchat that he could assault her seven-month-old daughter in exchange for $400. A woman in US is facing serious charges after she allegedly tried to arrange a sexual assault involving her own infant daughter. Investigators allege that the mother, who lives in Indiana, used a social media platform to set up the encounter. According to a report in People, Morgan Stapp, 32, has been charged with attempted child sex trafficking which is a level 2 felony. The charge stems from a message she allegedly sent on November 1, 2024, through Snapchat. In the message, she reportedly told a man he could assault her seven-month-old daughter in exchange for $400 (nearly Rs 35,000). 'Half now rest after I'll send my address I do live alone, and her dad is not in the picture," the message allegedly read as quoted by People. Snapchat detected and flagged the message to authorities. About ten days later, FBI agents visited Stapp's home in Indianapolis to question her. At the time, she claimed that she no longer had access to her Snapchat account and denied sending the message. During the initial conversation with agents, Stapp also said she had recently switched phones. But the affidavit reviewed by People states she later told a caseworker from the Indiana Department of Child Services that this wasn't true. That information was later shared with federal investigators who then looked further into her account activity. Meanwhile, Detective Kristen Hartman of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department obtained a search warrant for Stapp's Snapchat account. The affidavit showed that only one device had accessed the account. Between October 29 and November 1, more than 7,000 messages had been sent from that profile. One of those messages allegedly read, 'Would you be interested in buying my nudes so I can get baby diapers," and was repeated 81 times. Authorities also found several images of Stapp that were taken after she had told the FBI she no longer had control over the account, the affidavit said. A separate search warrant was then granted for her cell phone. Investigators linked the phone and the IP address associated with her home to the activity on the Snapchat account. The report mentioned that Stapp was taken into custody on July 8. If convicted, a level 2 felony in Indiana carries a mandatory sentence between 10 and 30 years in prison. Initially, her bond was set at $200,000 but was later reduced to $100,000. She remains in jail as of now. She is scheduled to appear in court again on September 15. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 15:16 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
