'My roommate gave me intoxicating cake, cold drink': Student jumps off hostel building in Rajasthan; father cites torture, blackmail
Rajasthan
's Tonk district — has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread concern and investigation.
In connection with the incident, the victim's father lodged a complaint at Niwai police station, claiming that his daughter, who had been admitted to Room 82 of Shanta Vatsyam Hostel for an MBA course on July 17, was tortured and blackmailed by another student.
The girl reportedly informed her parents about the harassment over a phone call and is now undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dadri.
Amid growing public scrutiny, the State Human Rights Commission has sought a detailed report from the district administration and police regarding the case.
The incident is reported to have occurred in the Niwai police station area of Tonk district. Following this, the family filed a case at the Niwai police station, alleging that another student mixed something in a cold drink, tortured and blackmailed their daughter, and made a video.
The incident raised several questions about why Banasthali Vidyapith concealed the incident and why it was not reported to the police.

On Monday, some police officers visited Banasthali Vidyapith, and it is speculated that Tonk superintendent of police Rajesh Meena is personally investigating the seriousness of the matter.
The viral video investigation follows previous questions raised about the institution's operations in several cases of student suicides. District collector Kalpana Agrawal stated that action will be taken in response to the viral video case as per the notice from the State Human Rights Commission.
Renowned for Panchsheel education in the country and abroad, the largest women's deemed university in the country, Banasthali Vidyapith, is once again embroiled in controversy. Some time ago, a student committed suicide after writing a suicide note, and another student jumped in front of a train to commit suicide.
Now, after a video of a student jumping from a hostel balcony and screaming in distress went viral on X, questions have been raised about the internal arrangements of the institution.
After a video of a student being described as intoxicated was posted on X, the family filed a complaint at the Niwai police station. The case filed by the father states that their daughter was recently admitted to the first year of the MBA program, but the students in the hostel room where she was placed were harassing her.
The father reported that when their daughter complained to the hostel management, no attention was given.
According to the father, their daughter became depressed due to harassment by other students and, in distress, jumped from the balcony.
After the incident, the Vidyapith management informed the family and handed over the student to them when they arrived at the institution. It is believed that the family of the student, who resides in Alwar, took action when the video of the incident was posted on X three days ago, claiming she was intoxicated.
Questions have been raised about the Vidyapith management because they did not inform the police about the incident that occurred on July 23, nor did they take any action on the family's complaint. In the report submitted to the police, the father demanded a full refund of the fees from the Vidyapith management. He also informed the police that his daughter would no longer be studying there.
After the video came to the attention of the State Human Rights Commission, the commission's Chairman, Justice G.R.
Moolchandani, issued notices to the district magistrate, district superintendent of police, the head of the institution, the manager of the institution, and the higher education department, demanding a factual report. He considered it serious that the entire incident was concealed and not reported to the police.
The Chairman directed all parties to be present with a factual report by August 22.
The incident is reported to have occurred on July 22.
The FIR submitted by the family states that their daughter was residing in room number 82 of Shanta Vatsalyam. Other students were also her roommates.
According to the victim, one roommate gave her an intoxicating cake and cold drink under the pretext of a birthday celebration and later made an obscene video of her. According to the family, she recently arrived at the hostel on July 17.
After the FIR was filed at the Niwai police station, station officer Ramjilal Verma stated that the police would investigate all the allegations. The station officer said that they would visit the Vidyapith to assess the situation, record statements, and take necessary action.

AIIMS-P docs skip work after clash with MLA; panel set up
Patna: Outpatient and elective services at AIIMS-Patna were brought to a standstill on Friday as over 600 resident doctors boycotted work following a violent altercation involving Sheohar MLA Chetan Anand . Emergency services also experienced partial disruption. In response to the incident, which took place on the night of July 30, the AIIMS-Patna administration has constituted a fact-finding committee to determine the sequence of events and recommend appropriate action. The confrontation between Anand, his wife Dr Ayushi Singh, armed guards and AIIMS staff, including junior doctors and security personnel, led both sides to file complaints, alleging physical assault against one another. Doctors under the banner of the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) staged a protest on Friday wearing black attire, demanding a safe working environment. Their key demands included the deployment of adequate and permanent security personnel, installation of additional CCTV cameras, implementation of robust security protocols and a written apology from the MLA. In an official press release, the RDA warned of continued boycott if their demands were ignored. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo "We are committed to patient care, but we cannot and will not function under threats to our lives and dignity. Should no appropriate action be taken by the given deadline, the entire responsibility for service disruption and its consequences shall lie with the administration and authorities who failed to ensure safety and justice," the statement read. In a letter submitted to the hospital superintendent, the doctors alleged that Chetan Anand, his wife and his security personnel forcibly entered hospital premises, physically assaulted staff, threatened resident doctors with death and brandished a firearm. "A hospital guard was brutally injured after being struck with the butt of the weapon, and our resident doctors were subjected to threats, abuse and fear inside their own workplace," the letter claimed. Anand, meanwhile, alleged that he and his companions were assaulted and held captive for an extended period. He also filed a complaint against the hospital staff involved. The AIIMS-Patna administration, in a late evening statement on Friday, said, "As per the available information and witnesses' statements, the incident appears to be unwarranted. In this regard, a fact-finding committee has been constituted by the administration so that appropriate action can be taken. Further action in this regard will be taken after the fact-finding committee submits its findings to the competent authority. Various versions of the incident are under circulation, which need to be verified before further comments." The Faculty Association of AIIMS-Patna also held a general body meeting and extended solidarity with the protesting junior doctors. It demanded strict action under the Bihar Medical Service Institution and Person Protection Act, 2011, warning of serious consequences should the matter be ignored. However, the protest left patients stranded, many of whom had travelled long distances for treatment. Harishankar Thakur, who came for an eye consultation, said, "Patients like me are going back without consultation. Doctors are not there." Sunaina Devi, in her 70s, had come with her daughter to see a doctor. "I am not able to eat anything, so I came here. But I could not meet any doctor," she said.

Retired defence personnel loses Rs 1.8 crore in digital arrest fraud
Bengaluru: An 81-year-old retired defence officer from east Bengaluru lost nearly Rs 1.8 crore in an online scam where fraudsters posing as law enforcement officers convinced him he was under "digital arrest. " The victim, Sharath (name changed), received a call on July 5 from someone claiming to be Sandeep Jadhav, a police officer from Colaba police station, Mumbai and the latter alleged Sharath's Aadhaar number had been used to open a bank account linked to illegal transactions and harassment calls. Despite Sharath's denial and mention of his defence background, the fraudster insisted that his identity was misused in a money laundering case tied to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal. To add pressure, Sharath was connected to other fraudsters posing as officials from CBI and Enforcement Directorate. They told him the case involved high-profile individuals and claimed an arrest warrant had been issued in his name. To make the scenario believable, the fraudsters even conducted a WhatsApp video call from another number, showing a man in a police uniform seated in a mock police station with an ID card and documents purportedly linked to his arrest. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo You Can Also Check: Bengaluru AQI | Weather in Bengaluru | Bank Holidays in Bengaluru | Public Holidays in Bengaluru Sharath was told he was under "digital arrest" and a virtual investigation would be conducted keeping in mind his age. The scammers warned him not to inform anyone, claiming his movements were being tracked and that he would be arrested in public if he failed to cooperate. Using fear and fabricated RBI rules, the fraudsters instructed Sharath to transfer funds to several bank accounts for verification purposes, assuring him the money would be returned once cleared. Believing the fraudsters, Sharath transferred money to five different accounts of four banks provided by the fraudsters between July 9 and 15, totalling to about Rs 1.8 crore. When the money wasn't returned as promised, Sharath finally confided in family and friends, only to realise he had been duped. A complaint was subsequently filed at east CEN crime police station. Police have registered a case under various sections of the IT Act and BNS Section 318 (cheating) and are attempting to trace and freeze the fraudsters' accounts.
