Rahul Gandhi to join 'Bihar Bandh' protests over electoral roll revisions ahead of Bihar Assembly elections
Speaking about Rahul Gandhi joining the protests, Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram said that the Congress MP has 'fought on the streets' whenever the country 'faces a crisis.'
'Whenever the country has faced a crisis, Rahul Gandhi has fought on the streets. Today, voting is on the verge of being banned, we are fighting for it, and Rahul Gandhi is coming here for it,' Rajesh Ram told ANI.
Rajesh Ram further criticised Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the revision of electoral rolls before the Bihar Assembly elections.
'There is a difference between taking a decision while staying in Delhi and taking a decision while staying on the ground. If you had to do this, you should have done it before the Lok Sabha elections.'
Meanwhile, Congress workers, participating in 'Bihar Bandh', lay down on the road to block vehicles from crossing.
A Congress worker said, 'We will keep doing this until the government accepts our demands. We will fight to the extent our leadership says... The ruling party is only trying to confuse the people.'
Another Congress worker said, 'Entire Bihar has been successfully shut down. The Mahagathbandhan is united against the rigging done by the Election Commission... We will not get up even if a car runs over us.'
Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc leaders burned tyres and blocked roads at the Maner Assembly stretch of National Highway 30 in Patna district.
Earlier, RJD leader Tejashwi raised 'deep' concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), claiming that those who do not have any of the 11 documents asked for verification of their names will be 'removed' from the electoral roll list.
'The worry is that we have no clarity from the EC so far. You all know that Bihar EC works only as a post office and has no authority to provide an answer. Why are they not answering the questions of the opposition and the people of Bihar... People of Bihar don't have the 11 documents which EC has asked for; rather, they have an Aadhar card, MGNREGA card, and ration card. This is the only document that the poor people of Bihar have. It is clear that the people who do not have these 11 documents, their names will be removed,' Yadav said. (ANI)

Bihar SIR: 86.32 pc enumeration forms collected, final push underway to cover remaining electors
New Delhi: As the deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Bihar approaches, the Election Commission has collected 86.32 per cent of the Enumeration Forms (EFs) from the state's electorate. Out of 7.89 crore electors, over 6.81 crore EFs have been submitted. After accounting for the deceased, relocated, and duplicate voters, the poll panel, in a press statement issued on Tuesday, said the drive has effectively covered 90.84 per cent of the electorate. With 10 days left until the July 25 deadline, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are gearing up for a third round of household visits. These visits aim to target households that were missed earlier due to the temporary absence of residents. BLOs will contact the remaining 9.16 per cent of electors individually to ensure their inclusion in the draft electoral roll, set to be published on August 1, 2025. To support the outreach, special camps have been set up across all 5,683 wards of 261 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state. Public awareness efforts, including newspaper advertisements, are ongoing to encourage voters to fill out and submit their EFs on time. Voters are also being urged to complete their forms online via the ECINet App or the official website. The portal has so far received over 6.2 crore uploaded forms, with the number rising steadily. A new module allowing voters to check the status of their EF submission will go live tonight on the same website. BLOs are being actively supported by 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties. Each BLA can certify and submit up to 50 forms daily, accelerating the collection process. Election officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is left behind, particularly in urban areas, ahead of the upcoming electoral roll update.

FIR filed against YouTuber Ajit Anjum for allegedly disrupting electoral roll revision in Bihar
PATNA: An FIR has been lodged against journalist-turned-YouTuber Ajit Anjum in Bihar's Begusarai district, wherein he has been booked on charges of allegedly interfering with Bihar's electoral roll revision, provoking communal discord, and spreading misinformation regarding the ongoing process. Anjum, who runs a YouTube channel, has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Representation of People Act, 1951. The complaint has been registered at Balia police station based on the statement of Mohammed Ansarul-Haque, a Booth Level Officer (BLO) under Sahebpur Kamal assembly constituency. According to Haque, Anjum, along with members of his team and a cameraman, visited the Balia block booth auditorium on 12 July around 9.30 am while he was uploading details of electors on the prescribed BLO App. After entering the auditorium without permission, Anjum allegedly fired a volley of questions regarding the ongoing revision of the electors' list. BLO Haque said that Anjum pressurised him repeatedly to confirm whether electors of a particular community were being intimidated or influenced during the Special Summary Revision (SIR) process. He also sought to know about the number of electors, allotment of enumeration forms, and the number of people who had withdrawn their forms. Anjum further asked about the number of electors who had submitted their filled-up forms with documents. 'I informed him that this particular booth has 1,020 electors and all of them have submitted their enumeration forms, which have been uploaded on the App,' Haque stated in the FIR. However, BLO Haque said that Anjum continued to raise questions about alleged intimidation of voters belonging to a particular community at the said polling booth. 'Though I tried to convince him that such allegations were baseless, he was not in a mood to relent and pressurised me to admit it,' he said in the police complaint. BLO Haque also claimed that the SIR work was hampered for about an hour due to the intervention of the journalist-turned-YouTuber. They remained on the auditorium premises for more than an hour and allegedly filmed the process of uploading the electors' details on the App, he added. Anjum later uploaded the SIR footage of the electoral rolls on his YouTube channel and also showed women employees engaged in the SIR work in another room. He also visited the Sub-divisional Office in Balia, where he allegedly attempted to contact some senior officials tasked with the SIR work. Anjum was also seen going through documents kept on tables and questioning employees.

Rahul Gandhi gets bail in case over allegedly defamatory remarks about Army
A court in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Tuesday granted bail to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in a case pertaining to his allegedly defamatory remarks about the Army during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022, Bar and Bench reported. Gandhi appeared in front of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alok Verma after the Allahabad High Court dismissed his challenge in May against the summons issued in the case. The case pertains to comments made by Gandhi on December 16, 2022, about a clash between the Indian and Chinese armies along the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang. The two sides had confronted each other with melee weapons on December 9, 2022, leading to injuries on both sides. Gandhi was granted bail by Verma on the condition that he furnish a personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with two sureties of the same amount. The case will be heard again on August 13. The remarks made by the leader of Opposition about the violence were made during the Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra, a march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir against the allegedly divisive policies of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. A former director of the Border Roads Organisation, Uday Shankar Srivastava, filed a defamation complaint against Gandhi. His lawyer claimed that the Congress leader's statements were derogatory and defamed the Indian Army.
