Naomi Osaka announces she is no longer working with coach Patrick Mouratoglou
'Merci Patrick,' Osaka began her post, with a photo of her hitting a practice serve while he stands nearby. 'It was such a great experience learning from you. Wishing you nothing but the best. You are one of the coolest people I've ever met and I'm sure I'll see you around.'
The news comes three days after Osaka lost her second match at the D.C. Open and just before she begins competing in Toronto. The U.S. Open, the year's last major tournament and an event Osaka won twice, begins in New York on Aug. 24.
Osaka hired Mouratoglou — who was the longtime coach of Serena Williams — when she fired Wim Fissette shortly after her second-round exit at last year's U.S. Open.
Osaka, a former No. 1, is currently ranked 51st and has a 21-11 record this season.
She hasn't been past the third round at a Grand Slam tournament since winning the 2021 Australian Open.

I got to go into him, like boom and then go. So, during the game, I'm getting him. We're going at it. I'm banging with him. Then, after the game, I'm on the flight, and I can't turn my neck. This was the first time that my brain was like 'What the [expletive] are you doing?'" Lining up against Williams in the trenches seems like hell, and it's no wonder that he had players contemplating their future in football after playing a full game against him. Williams missed seven games in 2024, and if the 49ers want to reach their potential in 2025, they'll need Williams to not only be on the field but also need him to play like the 11-time Pro Bowler he is. Washington Commanders practice had ended Saturday morning, but wide receiver Terry McLaurin's contract dispute with the team was still going, which meant it was time for the now daily ritual of his appearance on the field just as the rest of the players were walking off. Still under contract and 30 years old, McLaurin has little leverage in his battle to be one of the NFL's highest-paid receivers. He has tried holding out from offseason workouts, then from minicamp and finally the first days of training camp, amassing $800,000 in lost bonuses and fines but no big contract extension. For the past week McLaurin has been holding in, skipping the full morning practices because of a vague injury, but attending team meetings.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn reacts to Terry McLaurin's trade request
Washington Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin reportedly requested a trade, and head coach Dan Quinn spoke about it for the first time Saturday. McLaurin, 29, has been present but is not practicing at training camp while waiting for a contract extension, and he and the Commanders are not seeing eye to eye. Quinn said he is glad McLaurin is attending training camp, even though he's not practicing. "I'm really glad he's here," Quinn said before practice. "I love coaching him, but the business side, that's kind of where it's at. Somebody asked me, is it a distraction? It is not." McLaurin has one year remaining on the three-year, $68 million contract extension he signed in June 2022. He is seeking a deal that would make him among the NFL's highest-paid wide receivers. Last season, McLaurin turned in one of the best seasons of his career. McLaurin hauled in 82 catches for 1,096 yards and had a career-high 13 touchdowns. In the playoffs, he continued to produce, catching 14 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns in three playoff games. Quinn said McLaurin's trade request is part of "normal business" in the NFL. "The players today, they're more aware of contracts and things than they used to be. They recognize that business part happens as well. So, for the team, we're just rocking and going and throwing some great practices. For Terry and the trade requests, man, that's part of normal business that's happening around the NFL," Quinn said. "We love Terry. I'm really glad he is here, and hopefully he is out practicing soon. And we also understand there's the business side of these things that (general manager) Adam (Peters) and his side and Terry and his reps are working through." Without McLaurin, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end Zach Ertz are the top passing options for quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Offensive Rookie of the Year last season. McLaurin has been the No.1 wide receiver for the Commanders throughout his six-year career and has made the Pro Bowl twice.
