Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman Is Legendary, And I Love Hearing Danny DeVito's Candid Thoughts About Working With And 'Lusting After' Her In Batman Returns
There will always be debates over who the best live-action Batman was on the big screen, but, with apologies to Anne Hathaway and Zoë Kravitz, I'm not sure there's any real argument over who the best on-screen Catwoman has been. It has to have been Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns.
Pfeiffer's Catwoman was absolutely iconic, though her wearing a skintight body suit may have had a lot to do with that. One person who clearly loved Pfeiffer in Batman Returns was her co-star Danny DeVito. To be fair, everybody is lusting after Catwoman in Batman Returns, it's very much intentional, as Selina Kyle uses her sex appeal to her advantage throughout the film. It's a significant part of the movie, and also a significant part of the reason that many parents, and corporate sponsors, were upset with Batman Returns. It was seen as too mature regarding both sex and violence for a Batman movie, and led to the major realignment of tone that we would see under Joel Schumacher with Batman Forever and Batman & Robin.
Danny DeVito clearly loved making Batman Returns, and the rest of us still love watching it. It's one of the best, if not the best, big-screen Batman adventures to date. That's not entirely because Michelle Pfeiffer is so unforgettable, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Arrowhead Game Studios' Helldivers 2 will make the jump to the Xbox Series X and S consoles on August 26th, costing $39.99. This is the first PlayStation-published title to launch on Xbox. The title will ship with cross play between all platforms. The cooperative PvE third-person shooter was an unexpected hit when it first launched simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC in early 2023. It soared in popularity on Steam, where it earned an 'overwhelmingly positive' rating, which flipped to 'overwhelmingly negative' when Sony introduced (then swiftly reversed) a decision to require a PSN login for PC players. Xbox's press release makes no mention of a PSN login, so it likely won't be required here. Helldivers 2 is a gem of a game that's high on hijinx. What initially seems like a serious sci-fi title often gives way to funny, emergent moments, thanks in part to its Strategem system, which requires you to input complex button combos while facing down swarms of enemies. There are a variety of missions you can take on against aliens, robots, and a newer Illuminate species. And, since it's a live-service title, the lore and the stakes are always evolving (and the developers often troll players). It's a fun world to be immersed in, even if you're just grinding the free battle pass for weapon upgrades. Baltimore City leaders call for end of BGE's 'Operation Pipeline' program, multi-year rate hikes
Baltimore City Council President Zeke Cohen and other city leaders are calling for a halt to Baltimore Gas and Electric's 'Operation Pipeline' program. The program aims to upgrade hundreds of miles of natural gas pipes and equipment across Maryland by replacing cast iron and bare steel pipes with new, more durable lines. In 2023, the Maryland Public Service Commission approved BGE's multi-year rate hike plan, which authorized a series of rate increases between 2024 and 2026. The plan, in part, will pay for the upgrades. But city leaders argue the program is driving up customer bills and increasing the company's profits. This isn't the first time city leaders have called for an end to the rate hikes. An analysis released by the Office of the People's Counsel in February found that spending on gas infrastructure is fueling the hikes, and projected even higher winter bills in the future if the company continues its current level of capital investment. The report says gas utilities will spend about $744 million on gas infrastructure in 2025. Shortly after the OPC's report was released, the Baltimore City Council passed a resolution calling on the PSC to stop the multi-year rate hikes, arguing that the infrastructure upgrades should not be paid for by taxpayers. Maryland sees rising utility costs BGE raised their rates on January 1, increasing the average residential gas bill by 9% and the electric bill by 7%. During the winter, Maryland households reported some of their highest gas bills ever. But BGE said that while the pipeline upgrades are a part of the cost increases, a 30% rise in natural gas prices over the past year, and increased spending on energy efficiency programs mandated by the state also play a factor.
