Boosting Moroccan diaspora investment : Key insights from the World Moroccan Economic Forum

Ya Biladi11-05-2025
The financing mechanisms for projects led by Moroccans Living Abroad (MLA) were the focal point of a panel held on Friday in Marrakech as part of the World Moroccan Economic Forum (FEMM). Experts, entrepreneurs, and financiers discussed the available solutions to support MLAs wishing to invest in Morocco.
While there is a variety of tools—banking, public-private partnerships, or technical support—several speakers emphasized that many projects are not considered "bankable" by financial institutions due to a lack of structure or economic viability. Banks, while expressing their willingness to support the diaspora, are calling for more innovative, mature projects that align with market realities.
The panel also advocated for simplifying administrative procedures, strengthening cooperation between banks, public institutions, and project leaders, as well as providing targeted support: practical training in management, project development, and financial management.
The conclusion was unanimous: it is urgent to strengthen the investment ecosystem dedicated to MLAs to maximize their economic impact. Better access to financing and comprehensive support at each stage of development would attract more investments and boost the national economy.
The FEMM brings together decision-makers, experts, and entrepreneurs to discuss major themes related to MLA investment, exploring ways to integrate these projects into local and regional dynamics.

Mansions on small plots near Harvard now selling for up to $35M because of surprisingly ordinary perks

Mansions on tiny plots of land near Harvard are selling for whopping prices all because of simple, ordinary perks like living in a walkable city. A woodsy seven-bed, 6.5-bath mansion located 12 Reservoir Street sits on only 1.23 acres of land, but this legacy estate hit the market for an incredible $35million in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It's located just one mile from the esteemed Harvard University, has a garden that 'transforms with the seasons,' a koi pond, and even has a private au pair suite upstairs. Another Harvard Square home just down the block at 172 Brattle Street hit the market for $16.8million. The seven-bed, 10-bath home is 7,737 square feet and was built in 1880. For the asking price, one might think it would sit on acres of land, but it sits on a modest 0.34 acres. Another home in the area, 15 Hubbard Park Road, hit the market for just under $15million and sits on 0.4 acres of land. But those with the funds to live in Cambridge are there not only for the legacy and heritage built, but the perks. 'In Cambridge, they're getting less land, less house, but they're also getting proximity to the things that mean so much to them,' real estate agent John Petrowsky told the Boston Globe. Cambridge is a highly walkable city and families living there can have their kids safely walk to and from school. It's also a great area to rub elbows with some of the country's most intelligent, as MIT and Harvard are near by. 'Proximity to Harvard and to MIT have meant a lot, both psychologically and financially, to many people,' Petrowsky said. The area also has a great restaurant scene and a lively social calendar with its proximity to the universities, Nouné Karapetian, a real estate agent, said in a blog post. 'I'm a foodie myself and I feel that Cambridge's diverse population translates to the diverse food offerings,' she wrote. 'No matter the cuisine you're interested in Cambridge offers phenomenal options for eating out.' Residents like how walkable it is, the restaurant scene, and its proximity to Harvard and MIT It also has access to public transit, and it has plenty of green spaces to enjoy time outside. Cambridge is not in Boston, giving residents room to breathe, but they can easily access the big city in a 15-minute drive when needed. For residents, these perks are worth the high-priced real estate and the densely populated area, even if they could go a few miles elsewhere and find more bang for their buck.

Real life Emmerdale couple's wedding date confirmed three years after engagement

A couple who met on the set of Emmerdale when they played on-screen siblings are set to get married next week, with Max Parker and Kris Mochrie tying the knot very soon Former Emmerdale star Max Parker has announced the date of his wedding to former co-star Kris Mochrie. Max, who began a romance with Kris after meeting on the set, has teased that their nuptials are now just days away. ‌ Kris, 40, and Max, 33, who played brothers Lee Posner and Luke Posner respectively on the ITV soap opera, have been together since 2020 after meeting behind-the-scenes. Although on-screen siblings, the two actors, who have both since left Emmerdale, didn't share any scenes together. ‌ They got engaged just over three years ago, with Max having proposed to his partner Kris in January 2022. They are now preparing to get married next week. The news comes after Corrie star Jack P. Shepherd married his fiancée in a star-studded wedding in Manchester over the weekend. ‌ Max announced yesterday that it's just a week until he married Kris. The actor shared posts on Instagram that confirmed that they are just days away from exchanging vows, three years on from the couple's engagement. Alongside a photo of them both dressed up in suits, Max wrote: "7 days and we're married." He tagged his fiancé Kris, whose tie he was adjusting in the photo, in the post that was shared with his followers on the platform this week. ‌ Max also shared a photo of them raising a toast with glasses ahead of their upcoming wedding recently. The photo, which featured a fire in the background, was accompanied by a caption that read: "1 week til we get HITCHED!" It comes after Kris announced last year that the couple would be getting married in August this year. Alongside an engagement ring emoji, Kris wrote in a post on the platform almost a year ago: "365 days to go & 365 things to do." ‌ The couple got engaged in 2022, with Kris sharing the news at the time after Max, who he described as his "best friend," proposed on a beach. He shared that the proposal had been "perfect" and said he was a "very lucky boy". Kris wrote: "The beautiful soul that is my best friend asked me to marry him yesterday. I can't begin to describe how happy I am. I love him beyond words, we laugh every single day and I'm so so grateful that he came in to my life." ‌ He continued: "I had no idea at all! But it was just perfect… I mean this film says it all. Max had asked my Mum for any jewellery that my Gran had. Mum still had my Grans locket and he has had it made in to the middle of the engagement ring on the inside. So so special." Kris concluded his post at the time by writing: "Thank you to the job that brought us together, our incredible family and friends. And the amazing love from you all. I'm a very lucky boy. WE ARE GETTING MARRIED!!!!!"
