McDonald's Snack Wrap Vs. Popeyes, Sonic & Wendy's (Review)

I don't know about you guys, but as someone whose go-to at McDonald's was the Snack Wrap (shoutout to my beloved McChicken, too), I was borderline devastated when the menu item was discontinued seemingly forever in 2016. But, as the years went on, demand for the Snack Wrap's return rose, and, in this case, peer pressure ✨WORKED✨! Because on July 10, 2025, McDonald's came out with a Ranch Snack Wrap and a Spicy Snack Wrap — and I went out immediately and tried them both. But wait, there's more! If you aren't in the chicken loop, chicken wraps have kind of been poppin' out this summer, with some fast food chains trying to get the jump on McDonald's. Popeyes in particular seemed to want allll the smoke on social media when they responded to the Snack Wrap release date, revealing that they were going to drop their chicken wraps a month earlier. In fact, even Sonic wanted in on the fun and recently released a Crispy Chicken Wrap, too. So, since this year is apparently Chicken Wrap Summer, I went ahead and tried chicken wraps from five different fast-food chains to see which one reigns supreme. Welcome Chicken Wrap Battle💥🐔. And if you're interested, check out some of my other rankings:• Pumpkin Patrol• Saucy Nugget Showdown• Chicken Nugget Championship• Matcha Madness For this taste test, I went to McDonald's (obvi), Sonic, Popeyes, Wendy's, and Burger King! Except for Wendy's, all of these fast food joints offered a spicy and a regular version of their chicken wraps, so I decided to include the spicy versions in the ranking, too. But for now, here's what all of the "original-flavored" chicken wraps from each place look like lined up: Let's the Wrap Battle begin! SONIC CHEESY BAJA CRISPY CHICKEN STRIP WRAP — Let it be known that I LOVE Sonic's hot dogs and tater tots, but this wrap unfortunately missed the mark. This wrap has lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, tomatoes, a crispy tender, and a "zesty" cheese sauce. OK, let me start off by saying that I ate Sonic's chicken wraps last, so by then, I was in a state of delirium. Therefore, I forgot to take a full photo of the Cheesy Baja Wrap, so the picture on the left is the Honey Chipotle Wrap (they look the same anyway, but don't be surprised when you see the same picture later in the post). So, I ranked this wrap last by a very narrow margin. The chicken had a surprisingly good crunch to it, and I really loved the added tomatoes, but what really brought the wrap down was the cheese sauce and the thick ring of melted cheese that overpowered everything else. The cheese sauce was thin and tasted a bit too sour for my liking, but the melted cheese had a very rubbery taste to it that really turned me off. There was way too much of it, which made everything taste unbalanced. The chicken strip itself wasn't too flavorful, and though it was crispy, the breading was a bit bland. All in all, there was a lot to be desired! But I guess for the price, you get what ya pay $1.99Overall rating: 2/10 🐔. 8. MCDONALD'S SPICY SNACK WRAP — Ugh, I know, I know. McDonald's being near the bottom right out the gate is tough, especially since I think I was the most excited to try this one. The Spicy Snack Wrap features one McCrispy Strip, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and a mysterious Spicy Pepper sauce. I'm sorry, but I didn't think this was all that at all. And the culprit (at least to me) is that Spicy Pepper sauce! First of all, this Snack Wrap was DRENCHED — so much so that it was almost like I was just straight-up drinking the sauce by itself. The ratio was all the way off, and I honestly just didn't like the taste of the sauce in sauce tasted almost like if chipotle sauce and hot mustard had a baby. It was tangy and a I thought it did pack some heat, but the type of spice that you can feel in your nose, if that makes sense. Overall, after I tried it, there was no question that it was going to be near to the bottom of my list. HOWEVER, if you are curious, I don't recommend not trying it. Maybe I'm the problem, $2.99Overall ranking: 2.5/10 🐔. 7. SONIC HONEY CHIPOTLE CRISPY CHICKEN TENDER WRAP — *Sigh.* Sonic, I didn't mean for it to be this way, but alas. This wrap includes a honey chipotle aioli, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and a crispy tender. Oop, I didn't realize you guys would see the same photo so soon! Well, Sonic, it looks like I will only continue ordering my tots and jalapeño poppers from your drive-thru (don't ever change those, BTW).Don't get me wrong, the Honey Chipotle Wrap was a big step up from the Cheesy Baja Wrap. The chicken tender was slightly glazed in honey, which paired well with the chipotle aioli. The ratio of all the ingredients was a lot better this time around, but the downfall for this wrap was, again, the dang MELTED CHEESE! Like I said previously, the rubbery texture just doesn't do any favors for this wrap, and I would much prefer if it just didn't have cheese at all. However, the highlight of this wrap is definitely the honey-glazed chicken tender!Price: $1.99Overall rating: 3/10 🐔. 6. BURGER KING CLASSIC ROYAL CRISPY WRAP — BK dropped their chicken wraps in 2023, and I personally think it is very cute that they call it "royal." The Classic Royal Crispy Wrap features a chicken breast fillet, Royal Sauce, tomatoes, and lettuce. Though this wrap was definitely the best wrapped, it also was the lightest of the bunch. I knew before taking a bite that it wasn't going to have as much "stuff" in it, and I was, unfortunately, right. The fillet was small and thin, and it didn't have a crunch to it. Even more, there was a lack of seasoning, and the wrap itself was filled with a whole lot of lettuce. Let me be clear, I do love my lettuce, but the main star of a chicken wrap should probablyyyy be the chicken. As for the Royal Sauce, I couldn't really pinpoint what it was exactly, but it gave me Thousand Island vibes, but less thick. And I mean that as a compliment! The sauce elevated the wrap, especially since there was no cheese, but the chicken wrap ultimately still lacked. And the saddest part of it all, the tortilla didn't seem $3.49Overall rating: 4/10 🐔. 5. WENDY'S GRILLED CHICKEN RANCH WRAP — As someone who believes you can never go wrong with Wendy's chicken, I was excited to see what this wrap had to offer, especially since it's the only one I tried with grilled chicken! This wrap comes with chopped up grilled chicken breast, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, and ranch. This thing was hefty! It was the lengthiest and dare I say the "girthiest" of the snack wrap crew, so I had an inkling that I was in for a treat. The first bite was all tortilla, but the second bite had all the goods! My immediate thought was that it was SAUCY. It may not look like it in the photo, but ranch was slathered here, there, and everywhere — to the point where it was maybe...a bit too much? However, since the wrap was quite stuffed, I suppose the amount of ranch made sense.I did like the chopped chicken because it made it seem like there was more, and the chicken itself was seasoned just fine. It was nothing spectacular; it tasted like chicken that you find in pre-packaged salads, but that didn't bother me too much. I do wonder what it would've been like had Wendy's offered a fried chicken wrap, but I suppose I'll never know! I'd definitely get this wrap again, but compared to the ones ranked above, it just wasn't my favorite. Also, the price $7.69Overall rating: 6/10 🐔. 4. BURGER KING FIERY ROYAL CRISPY WRAP — BK, I doubted you for a bit, but you've managed to reel me in once again. The spicy version of Burger King's Royal Crispy Wrap comes with a chicken fillet coated in a "triple pepper fiery glaze," Royal Sauce, tomatoes, and lettuce. Alright, so this wrap held a bit more weight than its classic counterpart, but it appears that you can't expect all wraps to be stuffed like the Wendy's one. Even so, the Fiery Royal Crispy Wrap truly blew the other one out of the water. The Classic Crispy Wrap lacked flavor, but this one has loads of it thanks to the one-two punch of the glaze and the Royal Sauce. The pepper glaze was more tangy than spicy, but it paired wonderfully with the chicken and boosted the wrap's overall star power. Also, shoutout to the TOMATOES for being wildly juicy in this the time I got to trying this wrap, I was incredibly full and seeing stars, but I wish I had taken one more bite. Though I wish the chicken was crispier and that the wrap had more filling, the sauce really stole the show with this one! But again, the tortilla's lack of toast is truly $3.49Overall rating: 7/10 🐔. 3. POPEYES SPICY CHICKEN WRAP — Listen, Popeyes wanted all the smoke with McDonald's and for GOOD reason! Now, I honestly thought that this one would be the winner or at least second place, but hear me out first. The Spicy Chicken Wrap comes with a Popeye's cajun-marinated chicken tender, lettuce, shredded cheese, pickles, and a spicy mayo concoction. Ugh, Popeyes, you have bewitched me. (Let me also put on record that I partook in the Popeye's Chicken Sandwich craze.) The crunch on this chicken tender when I took a bite was audible, and the chicken was juicy, meaty, and sooo flavorful. I wasn't surprised because it IS Popeyes, but if appreciating the chicken from a chicken place is a crime, arrest me!The spicy mayo gave the wrap an extra kick, but it wasn't too spicy at all. I honestly kind of wish it was a bit spicier! Like the chicken sandwich, the wrap also includes two thick slices of pickles. I'm not the biggest pickle girly, so it wasn't my favorite part about the wrap, but the tangy pickles paired well with the cajun spices of the chicken and stopped the bite from feeling too heavy. Honestly, the only reason this wrap is ranked third is because I liked the top two better (for different reasons). I'd DEFINITELY get this wrap for lunch again!Price: $3.99Overall rating: 9/10 🐔. 2. McDONALD'S RANCH SNACK WRAP — I know some of you are going to come for me for this ranking, but spare me! Nostalgia often blinds me, and I'm not afraid to admit it. The Ranch Snack Wrap comes features a McCrispy Strip, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and ranch. My beloved Snack Wrap is back again from the dead, and I was more excited than I maybe should've been. Not going to lie, I'd never tried the McCrispy Strips until then, and now that that peppery sauce from the Spicy Snack Wrap isn't warping my taste buds, I can now say that the McCrispy Strips are truly delish. The chicken in this wrap was crispy (as it should be) and well-seasoned, and was bigger and meatier than I expected! The ranch was creamy and had the perfect ratio with all the other ingredients, though I do wish there was a bit more lettuce. All in all, trying this Snack Wrap took me back to when I was younger, when McDonald's was considered a treat, and my mom or dad would buy me a Snack Wrap on Fridays after school. Granted, I do remember them being, like, $1 or $2 back then, but hey. Nostalgia, you've won me again!Price: $2.99Overall rating: 9.1/10 🐔 Wow! We're finally nearing the end of the Wrap Battle! To this day, I can't believe I tried nine different wraps, and I don't think my gut microbiome has forgiven me still! Anyway, before I bestow the please 🥁🥁🥁. 1. POPEYES CLASSIC CHICKEN WRAP — Who cheered?! Yes, yes, the Popeyes Classic Chicken Wrap is my champion for the Chicken Wrap Battle, and it wasn't really a tough decision. Like the spicy version, the Classic Wrap comes with a cajun-marinated chicken tender, lettuce, shredded cheese, pickles, and mayonnaise. Something about a classic chicken wrap is going to get me every single time. No frills or gimmicks, just a straight-up good chicken tender swaddled in a warm tortilla with thick pickles, crisp lettuce, cheese, and creamy mayonnaise. What more could a person want?Almost everyone knows that Popeyes is known for chicken, so I feel like it's not wrong of me to say that everyone else's chicken didn't really stand a fair chance. The bold flavor of the chicken paired with the slight sweetness of the mayonnaise, paired with the tangy pickles and fresh, crisp lettuce is a recipe that, in my book, is made to succeed every time. Honestly, no notes. My local Popeyes might just find me in the drive-thru again very $3.99Overall rating: 10/10 🐔. Whew, we made it! If you made it this far, thank you for coming along with me on this journey. After trying the fifth wrap, I was already ready to lay down and take a nap, but I trucked on. If you need a refresher, here are all the wraps I tried, in order from my favorite to my least favorite: Of course, everyone has different tastes, and I don't expect everyone to agree! That said, are you happy with the re-release of the Snack Wrap? Which chicken wrap is your favorite? Let me know in the comments, and we can talk all things chicken wraps! Hungry for more? Taco Bell debuts Crispy Chicken Tacos, Burritos and Strips: See availability

Taco Bell's Chicken Nuggets were just the beginning as the Mexican-inspired fast food chain's crispy chicken era is here to stay with the debut of new items. Starting June 17, Crispy Chicken Tacos and Burritos will be available at locations nationwide for a limited time, the chain announced Thursday, June 12. Both items feature a Crispy Chicken Strip inside and are available with new Spicy Ranchero and Avocado Ranch sauces. "Taco Bell's obsession with its crispy chicken recipe runs so deep, one perfect spokesperson couldn't be crowned," the company wrote in a news release. "The next move was obvious: take the craveable, tortilla-coated crunch fans loved and pack it into the formats that made Taco Bell famous — Tacos and Burritos." For $2.79, the Crispy Chicken Tacos layers its new crispy strip with purple cabbage, lettuce, pico de gallo and shredded cheddar cheese. Meanwhile, the Crispy Chicken Burrito includes two strips, purple cabbage, crisp lettuce, pico de gallo and cheddar cheese for $5.49. The chain is also offering two Crispy Chicken Strips for the price of $3.99, not to be confused with its Crispy Chicken Nuggets, which debuted last December and returned in April. Taco Bell's new Spicy Ranchero Sauce fuses Anaheim and jalapeño chiles with tomatoes, garlic, and onion. The chain described its creamy Avocado Ranch Sauce as a "zesty ranch with a hint of avocado." Both sauces are priced at 60 cents when purchased on their own, or just 30 cents when added to any menu item, according to Taco Bell. The addition of the Crispy Chicken Tacos and Burritos to Taco Bell's menu comes as various chains compete in what appears to be a fast food chicken wrap battle. McDonald's is permanently bringing back its fan-favorite Snack Wrap on Thursday, July 10, nationwide, the company confirmed to USA TODAY on June 3. Popeyes, however, announced on June 2 that it will be adding Chicken Wraps to its menu for a limited time. Popeyes appeared to throw shade at McDonald's on May 30, responding to an April 15 McDonald's X post hinting at the Snack Wrap's comeback. McDonald's post from April 15 read: "snack wraps 0x.14.2025," hinting that the menu item would return on the 14th day of an unidentified month in 2025. "Chicken wraps 0x.02.2025," Popeyes wrote on May 30. Contributing: Gabe Hauari This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Taco Bell debuts Crispy Chicken Tacos, Burritos and Strips
