Egyptian PM apologizes for recent fatal road accidents amid public anger
'As a government, we deeply regret some of the accidents that have occurred in recent days. We are not arrogant; we admit it, and we want what's best,' Madbouly stated during a press conference on Wednesday.
There are external forces that have an interest in 'attacking the Egyptian state and spreading despair and frustration among citizens, hoping for the state's internal collapse,' he noted.
Madbouly added that these parties are aware of Egypt's ability to confront any external threat, 'Which is why they try to weaken the state from within and make citizens lose confidence in the state's administrative capabilities,' he asserted.
'Some countries do not allow anyone to portray a negative image and take aggressive measures against anyone who presents a negative scene of the state.'
Madbouly also highlighted the significant development and change the country has witnessed in many sectors.
He continued, 'I am not saying no to criticism, because that is a full right of the Egyptian citizen. But what is the general image we want to project to the outside world?'
Last month, two major accidents on the Regional Ring Road resulted in 28 deaths and numerous injuries.
Additionally, the main Ramses Exchange building in Cairo caught fire, disrupting communications services.
These incidents on the Regional Ring Road prompted the government to close the road, which is currently undergoing repairs. Police have also intensified road surveillance to prevent traffic violations and are conducting drug tests for drivers.

German Development Min. Holds High-Level Talks in Egypt on Gaza Reconstruction
Ahmed Emam The German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Alabali-Radovan, arrived in Cairo today (Sunday) to hold critical talks with the Egyptian government on the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from the Embassy of Germany in Egypt. The visit comes in the wake of a recent Arab-led proposal for the future of Gaza, which has suffered immense destruction amid ongoing conflict. Egypt has played a central role in shaping this regional initiative. In a statement released ahead of her meetings, Minister Alabali-Radovan said: 'The Arab plan offers a realistic path toward rebuilding Gaza. It could serve as a strong starting point to give the people of Gaza renewed hope. As Germany's Development Minister, I want to be engaged from the early stages. Germany will also contribute to Gaza's reconstruction. Even though the situation remains catastrophic, we must begin discussing how to make this enormous task a success.' She stressed that several key conditions are necessary for meaningful progress: a secure humanitarian situation, a permanent ceasefire, and a political framework that supports long-term peace and security. 'There must be no role for Hamas in Gaza and no threat to Israel. Forced displacement, land reduction, or expulsions in Gaza or the West Bank are unacceptable,' she added. During her visit, the Minister is scheduled to hold talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, and Arab League Deputy Secretary-General Hossam Zaki. The discussions will focus on the implementation of the Arab reconstruction plan and the potential support from Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The embassy emphasized that rebuilding Gaza is a monumental, decade-long mission that requires close coordination and burden-sharing among the international community, including regional partners and the United Nations. Once conditions on the ground allow, BMZ is prepared to launch immediate relief projects, such as restoring water and energy supplies and providing temporary housing. The Ministry has previously contributed to development in Gaza, notably in drinking water access, wastewater infrastructure, and sustainable economic development. 'Reconstruction must be part of a broader, negotiated process toward a two-state solution,' the German embassy concluded. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

IMF Predicts Egypt to Generate $3 Billion from Asset Sales in 2024/25
Taarek Refaat The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has forecasted that Egypt will generate approximately $3 billion in revenue from asset sales during the fiscal year 2024-25. This comes as part of the country's ongoing economic reform program, which is being carried out in collaboration with the IMF. The Egyptian government has been implementing measures aimed at reducing the state's role in the economy and fostering greater participation from the private sector. These steps have included a series of state-owned asset sales, designed to unlock value, attract both local and foreign investment, and reduce public debt. According to the IMF's projections, Egypt is expected to generate $3.6 billion from asset sales in the 2024-25 fiscal year. However, this figure is anticipated to decline in subsequent years, with $3 billion expected for 2025-26, and further down to $2.1 billion in 2026-27. This steady decline reflects the limited pool of state-owned assets left for sale, as the government has already offloaded a significant portion of its holdings in recent years. It also signals that Egypt's reliance on asset sales to meet its fiscal targets may become less viable as time progresses. The IMF has been a key partner in Egypt's efforts to stabilize and grow its economy, particularly since the country entered a $12 billion loan agreement with the Fund in 2016. As part of the economic reform program, which aims to boost private sector investment and reduce public sector dominance, the government has been tasked with privatizing a number of state-owned companies. Over the past few years, Egypt has taken steps to privatize major assets, including the sale of stakes in state-owned banks, energy companies, and infrastructure firms. One of the most significant assets still under negotiation is the potential sale of Bank Cairo, which has faced delays primarily due to pricing disputes. While asset sales can provide immediate fiscal relief, the strategy has its critics. Some argue that selling state-owned assets may not be a sustainable long-term solution for Egypt's economic challenges. Concerns also persist about the social impact of such privatization efforts, particularly regarding jobs and service provision. On the other hand, proponents of the strategy argue that moving assets into private hands will help modernize Egypt's economy, create jobs, and promote growth by boosting foreign investment and improving efficiency. Egypt's drive to divest from state-owned assets is seen as a key component of its broader goal to attract foreign direct investment (FDI). The government has actively sought to engage international investors, positioning the country as a regional hub for business and trade.
