We will ensure there are no issues in Gurukuls: Minister Adluri

The Hindu01-07-2025
Minister for Scheduled Castes Development, Tribal Welfare and Minorities Welfare Adluri Laxman Kumar on Tuesday said that the government will ensure that there are no issues in welfare and Gurukul schools in the State.
'We will also ensure that there is no delay in uniforms for students in the coming days. I have asked the Finance Minister to take steps to ensure that rents of hostel buildings is paid every month,' he said.
Reacting to a report in these columns, Mr. Laxman Kumar addressed the press over irregularities in Gurukuls, particularly the dues to food vendors and uniform suppliers, directions on the new centralised procurement policy, and its impact on the new Common Diet Scheme.
He noted that the State government is not functioning as the previous BRS administration did and assured that tenders for student uniforms, books and shoes will be released soon.
As of April 2025, Mr. Laxman Kumar informed that pending bills of residential and hostels, diet and rents have been cleared. He stressed that revised amounts such as that of the enhanced diet and cosmetic charges were being paid.
Asserting the government's resolve to welfare and education of students from weaker sections, he said integrated residential schools for every Assembly constituency will be a reality in three years.
On student deaths in gurukuls, Mr. Laxman Kumar observed that there would be many causes, including influence of social media and family situations. He said steps were being taken to reduce and prevent suicides.

T Raja Singh: ‘Have the blessing of top BJP leaders, had to quit party because of some in state unit'

BJP MLA in Telangana, T Raja Singh, quit the party on June 30 in protest against ex-MLC N Ramachander Rao's elevation as the party's state president. Though the three-time MLA from Goshamahal in Hyderabad faces the risk of being disqualified from the Assembly and the prospect of a bypoll, he says he will continue to support senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In an interview, Raja Singh speaks about why he resigned from the party, rumours of his move to Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's JanaSena Party (JSP), and his expectations from the BJP. Excerpts: I have been with the BJP since 2014 and won three Assembly elections on its ticket. Even after winning, I worked to strengthen the party and also went to jail. In Telangana, there are lakhs of party workers who want the BJP to come to power. The acceptance of my resignation is a disappointment for all of them. I hold no grudge against him. He is a good advocate, but an advocate can fight well only in court. You need a different skillset to fight the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Congress, and AIMIM. I feel it would have been better if the party had appointed an MP or an MLA as the state chief. Yes. There are two or three leaders in the Telangana BJP who do not want the party to come to power in the state. Their decision prevailed over mine. I have no such plans and, 99%, I will not join any other party. My ideology is Hindutva and I will not fit in with the BRS or the Congress. I don't even want to talk about the AIMIM. I will never join them. My supporters and I will continue to propagate the message of Modi, Shah, and Adityanath. Yes, I have become an Independent and will continue to support the BJP's ideology from outside. We will continue to work for Hindutva. I am heartbroken. It feels like I have parted ways with my family. But nothing can be done as the central leadership is not aware of the happenings in Telangana. I would request them to seek an Intelligence Bureau (IB) report on the BJP's political gains and losses in the state. They will then realise that I was right in calling out a section of the state leadership. The BJP had gained momentum in Telangana. We know this as we interact with people directly. We travel on bikes and do not even let the security keep people away from us. I know that the (previous) BRS and incumbent Congress governments have not done well for the people of Telangana. There was a movement building for a 'double-engine sarkar'. By accepting my resignation, they (central leadership) have let go of this grassroots movement. I thought the central leadership would contact me, ask me why I resigned, and what my problem was. But it did not happen. My speeches are only about Hindutva and lash out at anti-nationals. My target has been only those who target the Hindu religion. In Hyderabad, we respond to AIMIM leaders in their language. Some sections want a soft-spoken leadership, but my speeches are strong and open. BJP workers are with me even now due to these speeches. I have the blessing of the central leadership, but there are a handful of state leaders who do not like me and my speeches. It is because of them that I had to leave the party. No party other than the BJP stands for Hindutva. The Ram Temple in Ayodhya came into existence because of Modi and Adityanath. If the central leadership tells me to resign as MLA, I will do so. If they allow me, I will work as an ordinary worker.

KTR slams govt for nudging women to carry potable water to paddy fields

Hyderabad: The BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday launched a scathing attack on the government following an incident where women were reportedly seen carrying water in pots to safeguard their paddy crops. The BRS leader alleged that the government had failed to repair two crucial pillars for 19 months. Comparing the current situation to 'IndirammaRajyam' bringing 'farming with water pots,' Rama Rao stated, 'What a misery Revanth has brought…!! While KCR ensured girls did not have to stand outside their houses holding pots for drinking water, Revanth Reddy has now created a situation where women fetch water with pots to protect their paddy fields? What are these new difficulties for our sisters who are already struggling for drinking water?' Rama Rao further claimed that in Rangadhamunipalli, Gollapalli, Jagityala district, a transformer broke down and remained unrepaired for 15 days. He questioned the government's capacity, stating, 'You have not been able to repair two pillars at Medigadda for a year and a half. Do you not even have the capacity to repair transformers? You have already given up on providing irrigation facilities. Now there is so much trouble protecting crops with current motors? What else but wickedness is there to prevent the use of groundwater that increased during the BRS regime? We cannot bear to see crops drying up before our eyes. Can this Chief Minister not see the suffering of girls and children carrying buckets? God knows when he would make women crorepatis. When will this Chief Minister find the courage to end the suffering of these girls and children who carry pots for drinking water as well as irrigation water?' The BRS leader also targeted the government over a student suicide. 'Another student commits suicide in a Gurukul hostel, very sad,' he remarked. 'The failure of the Congress government is the reason for the suicide of a fifth-grade student in the Jyotiba Phule hostel in Thupranpet, Choutuppal mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. Even though 90 students in Gurukuls have already died due to various reasons, the Chief Minister is not providing any relief. If the Chief Minister does not stop this death knell that is ringing in Gurukuls, the curses of the parents will surely fall on this Congress government.'

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy dares KCR for open debate on Kaleshwaram and other projects constructed by Congress

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday challenged former Chief Minister and BRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao to come for a debate on the Kaleshwaram project and the other projects, including Nagarjuna Sagar, Srisailam, SRSP, and Jurala, built by Congress in 60 years. According to a release, the Chief Minister launched a ration card distribution programme in Thungathurthy Assembly constituency and addressed a public meeting. CM Revanth Reddy questioned KCR for not bringing the river Godavari water to Telangana during the 10-year BRS rule. The CM took strong exception to the BRS leader's statements that the Telangana state would have had abundant Godavari water in three days if KCR were in power. KCR did not even construct an MRO office in his native village," CM Reddy said. The CM launched a scathing attack on KCR, accusing the previous BRS government of looting Rs 1 lakh crore of public money by constructing the Kaleshwaram project, which became a 'Kaleshwaram' project. Live Events "The previous Government had also never thought of issuing new ration cards and providing food security to the poorer sections. The People's Government issued 5.60 lakh new ration cards and registered the names of 26 lakh people. Possessing a ration card is a symbol of self-respect to the poor in the people's government," CM Reddy said, as per the release. "We have already distributed Fine Rice to 3.10 crore people till date. People were seen making a beeline before Belt shops during the BRS rule, and now people are rushing to Fair price shops for fine rice", the CM wondered why the BRS leaders are making hue and cry against the government. The Telangana CM reiterated that Congress will rule the state for 10 years till 2034 and called upon the Congress leaders to strive hard for the victory of Congress in the ensuing Local body elections. "The party leaders should take responsibility for winning the party workers in the local body elections. The government was also providing a 42 per cent quota for BCs in the local body elections, and the caste census conducted by the government was a role model for the country after 100 years. Under pressure from Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced a caste census at the national level along with the population census," CM Revanth Reddy said, as per the release. Listing out the schemes introduced for the welfare of all sections, CM Reddy said, "The BRS resorted to false propaganda on Rythu Bharosa, and the government proved it wrong by depositing Rs 9000 crore scheme benefit in farmers' accounts in just 9 days. We promoted farming as a profitable profession, and Telangana state stood number one in paddy production in the country. Rs 500 bonus, farmer's insurance, and farmer's loan waiver were only possible during Indiramma's rule. The people's government waived Rs 21,000 crores of farmers' loans and relieved 25 lakh farmers from the debt burden." Further, the CM said that the government will distribute two sarees each to 65 lakh women of self-help groups soon and provide loans of Rs 21,000 crores to self-help groups through banks.
