Tiruvannamalai Railway Station To Get A PFTR Terminal, All You Need To Know

This new development will focus on improving safety, cleanliness, and passenger comfort for long-distance trains.
Southern Railway has unveiled a new plan to turn the historic Tiruvannamalai railway station into a full-fledged Platform Train Examination (PFTR) terminal.
This upgrade will help maintain long-distance trains with safety checks and civic upkeep like cleaning coaches and filling water tanks.
The move comes as part of the Station Redevelopment Project, which has already restored the station's old charm while adding airport-like features such as LED lighting, escalators, lifts, skywalks, and even rainwater harvesting.
Why the Change Now?
Two key reasons are behind this decision. First, the current PFTR terminal at Villupuram is overcrowded, leading to delays and congestion. Second, with more pilgrims heading to the famous Arunachaleswara Temple, there's a growing need for better train services directly to Tiruvannamalai.
As per The Hindu, railway officials say the revamped station will help accommodate additional long-distance trains, especially during temple festivals, making travel smoother for visitors.
What's in Store?
The new PFTR terminal will handle safety checks for trains like Shatabdis, Intercities, and double-deckers. Tasks such as brake tests, axle checks, lighting inspections, and coach disinfection will be part of the daily routine.
Passengers can also expect a better travel experience thanks to improved cleanliness, lighting, and basic services in trains halting at the station.
The station's location — close to the new bus terminus and main roads — makes it ideal for turning into a busy travel hub. With plans for four rail lines, the terminal will boost capacity and cut delays.
Currently, the station serves around 8,000 passengers and 15 trains daily. With the new terminal, both these numbers are set to rise.

How Hostels Are Becoming The Preferred Co-Living Choice For Young Professionals

Last Updated: With a rise in remote work opportunities, Gen Z believes in working from new destinations everyday. This has led to a boom in hostel culture across India. Hostels in India have officially shaken off their backpacker stereotype. What began as budget-friendly stopovers has evolved into lifestyle destinations for Gen Z, solo travellers, and remote professionals. With their chill vibe, cost-effective setup, and built-in community, hostels today are more than just a bed for the night; they're a way to live. As rental prices soar and long-term leases grow more rigid, hostels offer a flexible, no-fuss alternative. Add to that the rising popularity of remote work, and you've got the perfect storm for a co-living boom. Short Stays Are Getting Longer Hostel stays are no longer limited to weekend getaways or quick pit stops. Among digital nomads and young professionals, the average stay has grown significantly – from five nights in 2019 to nearly 14 nights in 2024. That's largely due to hostels adapting to new lifestyles, with nearly 73% offering co-working spaces that support both productivity and play. 'We've turned the idea of hostels into vibrant, all-in-one spaces where people come to live, work, and connect," says Pankaj Parwanda, co-founder of goSTOPS. 'From travelers seeking green escapes to Gen Z explorers chasing authentic community vibes, today's hostels offer experiences that go far beyond just a place to stay." 'Today's generation values easy access, affordability, and a lifestyle that blends fun with comfort," Parwanda explains. 'We've seen one-time guests return and gradually adopt this way of living because it feels more human, connected, and real." It's a reflection of a broader generational shift: freedom over permanence, connection over isolation, and experiences over ownership. No Chores, No Landlords, No Stress Modern hostels are more than convenient; they're plug-and-play living solutions. No utility bills, furniture shopping, or landlord negotiations. Just move in, unpack, and focus on your work, passions, or travels. For those craving independence without the baggage, hostel living hits the sweet spot. Today's hostels represent a conscious shift in how young people want to live. They're choosing fluidity, flexibility, and freedom, while still having a place to call home. Whether it's for a week or a few months, hostel life is no longer the alternative. It's the new normal. view comments First Published: August 02, 2025, 10:19 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Kriti Sanon In Neon Pink Just Gave Us The Ultimate Bikini Look For 2025

Sharing a video from her vacation in Saint Tropez, Kriti Sanon soaked up the sun in a neon pink bikini that she had paired with a distressed white shrug. Kriti Sanon is making waves, quite literally, and turning her coastal getaway into a sun-soaked fashion diary. Currently vacationing in the picturesque French Riviera, the actor has swapped city streets for turquoise seas, hopping aboard a luxurious yacht ride in Saint-Tropez. With sister Nupur Sanon in tow, Kriti is embracing her inner beach baby, and her Instagram is a love letter to summer escapism. Taking to her Instagram, Kriti Sanon treated her followers to a dreamy slice of her trip, uploading a video that was equal parts cinematic and carefree. Shot aboard a sleek yacht slicing through the glistening Mediterranean, the video captures Kriti basking in the golden afternoon sun, her silhouette framed by the endless blue horizon. Rippling waves, distant cruise liners, and a hint of Saint-Tropez's coastal charm complete the perfect postcard. But what truly stood out was her effortless yachtcore fashion moment. Kriti chose a striking neon pink bikini—a head-turning hue that's practically made for tropical getaways. The halter-neck design offered just the right mix of sporty and sultry, while a distressed white shrug tossed over the top brought in a touch of laid-back cool. Think sun-drenched glamour meets off-duty model. Kriti kept her beauty look simple and radiant, letting the natural light do most of the work. A hint of peach gloss added freshness to her lips, while her lashes, lightly brushed with mascara, fluttered against the sea breeze. Skipping the heavier makeup staples, she leaned into minimalism, allowing her naturally flushed cheeks and glowing skin to take centre stage. Her poker-straight brunette locks flowed freely, tousled ever so slightly by the wind, completing the sun-kissed vibe. 'Can you live on the ocean? I think I can," she wrote in the caption, cheekily adding, 'PS: Param Sundari is loving this song from Param Sundari." The witty double entendre nods to two different musical moments – the upcoming romantic drama Param Sundari, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra, and of course, Kriti's iconic dance track from Mimi, which continues to be a fan favourite. Whether it's her choice of coastal couture or her tongue-in-cheek captions, Kriti Sanon is clearly in her element – soaking up sunshine, serving looks, and reminding us all that the best kind of fashion statement is the one you wear when you're truly at ease. view comments First Published: August 02, 2025, 08:53 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
