A report in Pakistani media has claimed that India are guaranteed to compete in the 2025 Asia Cup, despite uncertainty over whether the tournament will go ahead following the India-Pakistan conflict. The already strained relationship between the two nations has further deteriorated since the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack and India's strong retaliatory response through Operation Sindoor, during which multiple terror camps in Pakistan were reportedly destroyed.
Since the Operation Sindoor wreaked havoc in Pakistan, it has been reported in Indian media that the Asia Cup 2025 may get scrapped as India may not take part in the tournament. Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) acquired the media rights for all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tournaments, including the Asia Cup, from 2024 to 2031 at a base price of $170 million.

For broadcasters to recover so much money, it's imperative that India take part in the Asia Cup. But if that doesn't happen, the broadcasters may pull out, leading to the cancellation of the tournament.
A media report in May had claimed that the BCCI did not want to take part in a tournament that is headed by a Pakistani official . ACC is currently headed by Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The BCCI has since denied withdrawing from the Asia Cup and confirmed that they have not approached the ACC so far.
Pak media says India will take part in Asia Cup 2025
Now, a report in Pakistan's Tribune.com has claimed that BCCI has confirmed to the official broadcasters that India will take part in the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in the T20I format. 'Sony has now also been told by the BCCI not to worry – India will play in the Asia Cup,' the report said.
It also stated that an Indian broadcaster has confirmed: 'The tournament will be held in September. Our team will also participate.'
The report further noted that India and Pakistan have consistently faced each other in ICC tournaments despite strained diplomatic relations, suggesting that both teams are likely to participate in the Asia Cup 2025.
'No matter how strained the bilateral ties, India has never refused to play Pakistan in ICC events. The only reason is the lucrative media rights, mostly held by Indian broadcasters,' the report stated.
The report also added that the Asia Cup 2025 is expected to be held from 12 to 28 September in the UAE.

Diamondbacks ban season ticket holder for rest of season after interference during game vs. Giants

Jul 02, 2025 05:23 AM IST PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks have banned a season-ticket holder from Chase Field for the rest of the season because of 'multiple offenses' during games, including fan interference on a fly ball to the wall during Monday night's game against the San Francisco Giants. Diamondbacks ban season ticket holder for rest of season after interference during game vs. Giants The D-backs were leading 3-2 in the eighth inning on Monday when San Francisco's Christian Koss hit a long fly ball to left field. Arizona left fielder Tim Tawa tried to make a leaping grab, but the fan made the catch with his own glove, appearing to reach over the fence. The umpires initially ruled that Koss was out, but the call was overturned after review and Koss was awarded second base. The D-backs went on to win the game 4-2. The fan — who said his name is Dave McCaskill — was ejected after the incident. McCaskill went on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Tuesday, saying he's been ejected three times and reviewed '9 or 10' times over the years. 'While our policy is to not publicly disclose information about our season ticket holders, the Arizona Diamondbacks are making this statement due to public speculations and multiple media inquiries regarding the fan interference incident during last night's game,' a statement from the team said. "This particular fan has been involved in multiple offenses at Chase Field. Consequently, we have terminated his Advantage Member account and he is prohibited from returning to Chase Field for the remainder of 2025. 'This fan will have the opportunity to return to Chase Field in 2026 so long as he meets certain terms and abides by our Fan Code of Conduct.' Guardians place Gabriel Arias on IL with ankle sprain, recall Brayan Rocchio from Triple-A

Jul 02, 2025 05:03 AM IST CHICAGO — The Cleveland Guardians placed shortstop Gabriel Arias on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain before Tuesday night's game at the Chicago Cubs and recalled infielder Brayan Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus. Guardians place Gabriel Arias on IL with ankle sprain, recall Brayan Rocchio from Triple-A Rocchio was in Cleveland's lineup at shortstop and batting ninth for the series opener at Wrigley Field. Arias was taken off the field on a cart after getting hurt in the third inning of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The team said X-rays were negative and Arias underwent an MRI on Monday. 'It looks like we got pretty lucky," manager Stephen Vogt said. "It looks like a moderate ankle sprain. So we'll have more information on him when we get back , but it sounds like he avoided some major injury, which is great.' Arias is batting .231 with six homers and 31 RBIs in 77 games in his first full season as a starter. Arias went deep into the hole to field a grounder by Masyn Winn with one out, but caught his left spike on the grass and awkwardly rolled his ankle. The ball wound up in left field for a single. Arias immediately grabbed his leg and remained down for several minutes. Rocchio opened the season with the Guardians, but was optioned to Triple-A on May 12 after batting only .165 with eight RBIs in 35 games. In 41 games with Columbus, he hit .252 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.
