OnePlus Nord 5 launching in India on 8 July: Expected price, specs and more

Mint23-06-2025
OnePlus has confirmed that its mid-range Nord series will be launched in India at the Summer Launch event on 8 July. At the special event, OnePlus will unveil two new smartphones: the OnePlus Nord 5 and the OnePlus Nord CE 5.
Although official details about the Nord 5 will only be revealed at the launch event, several leaks have emerged suggesting the device's potential specifications.
Leaks suggest that the OnePlus Nord 5 could feature a 6.83 inch 1.5K AMOLED display with up to 144Hz refresh rate. It could come with IP65 rating for water and dust resistance like the OnePlus 13s (Review), meaning that the phone could potentially handle a bit of splashes and light rainfall but not full submersion under water.
On the optics front, the OnePlus Nord 5 is exected to feature a 50MP primary shooter with support for an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens. For selfies, there could be a 50MP shooter, marking a major departure from the 16MP shooter seen on its prececessor.
There could also be a big upgrade in the battery department for the Nord 5 with the phone expected to pack a 6,700mAh battery with support for 80W of fast charging. For context, the OnePlus Nord 4 (Review) came with a 5,500mAh battery and 100W fast charging.
The OnePlus Nord 5 could come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, which we have previously seen in the likes of Poco F6 (Review) and iQOO Neo 10R (Review).
OnePlus Nord 4 was launched in India at a starting price of ₹ 29,999 and went up to ₹ 35,999 for the top end variant. While there are no tangible leaks or official upates on the pricing of the Nord 5 yet, one can expected the phone to hover around the ₹ 30,000 price bracket as well.

Small screens and big ambitions shape new Android flagships

An intriguing shift is underway in India's smartphone market, underlined by a new generation of flagship phones. These are smaller in size, and while sporting similarly premium price tags, better ergonomics work in their favour. Smartphone makers Xiaomi, OnePlus, Vivo, as well as Apple and Samsung, now sell powerful phones with screen sizes that are either 6.3-inches or smaller. In recent years, 6.7-inch and thereabouts screen sizes became the norm for flagships. (Representative file photo) Yet, there are layers to this — overcoming challenges posed by smaller dimensions, sustaining consumer interest, and making compact phones more affordable. In recent years, 6.7-inch and thereabouts screen sizes became the norm for flagships. This evolution now puts the widest selection of smaller phones, for buyers to choose from. The Vivo X200 FE, which went on sale this week, finds competition from the Xiaomi 15, OnePlus 13s, as well as Samsung's Galaxy S25 and the iPhone 16e. Current market prices peg these between ₹50,000 and ₹80,000. 'Compact flagships are gaining priority in India as users often face challenges with large-screen smartphones, such as difficulty operating them with one hand and maintaining a secure grip, raising chances of accidental drops. This has made one-handed usability a key consideration for many consumers,' Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, tells HT. Their latest study reveals 74% of young professionals based in India, have a preference for compact smartphones. In a way, this is the smartphone market coming a full circle. 'This is not a sudden shift. Flagship portfolios have traditionally featured two size formats. Ten years ago, it was 5 inches and 5.5 inches. Today, it is closer to 6.3 inches and 6.7 inches,' says Anuj Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, Xiaomi India. Phones became bigger with time, and now there's a return to some smaller sizes as well. He believes this clearly reflects the needs of two distinct consumer groups—those focused on content creation and consumption, and those who prioritise mobility with one-handed usage. But there is still apprehension, in terms of consumer demographic willing to use compact phones in the long term. 'We are not expecting compact phones to be more than 5% of the total sales this year,' says Faisal Kawoosa, Chief Analyst and co-founder of Techarc. Content consumption trends, and user age, are primary reasons. There's an element of variety in a smartphone portfolio, with focus presently on the premium bands. 'While large-screen smartphones continue to dominate the market, phone makers are strategically positioning compact devices as differentiated offerings,' explains Prabhu Ram, Vice President - Industry Research Group, at CyberMedia Research (CMR). For phone makers, it hasn't been easy to get it right, from a technology standpoint. 'Delivering true flagship performance in a compact size is not a small challenge. With limited internal space in compact devices, this often leads to trade-offs in performance, cooling, and battery endurance. Still, we rose to the challenge,' explains Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India. The OnePlus 13s retains specs expected in a top-tier phone, as do the Xiaomi 15 and Vivo X200 FE phones. These include the latest chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek, denser batteries with reconfigured composition for higher capacity, and top-tier cameras optimised by camera makers — Xiaomi has Leica's expertise on its side, while Vivo relies on Zeiss for tuning. 'Foldable phones and compact form factors represent engineering milestones that resonate with distinct consumer profiles,' says CMR's Ram. This market transformation may well be credited to Apple, who launched the 6.1-inch iPhone 16e earlier this year. 'Apple did it for a purpose which was to bring its latest features, especially AI, to a lower price tier and eventually replace the trend of a large segment buying older generation iPhones,' says Techarc's Kawoosa. Apple wants as many users as possible, to buy and use their latest generation hardware, and therefore a strong argument for the iPhone 16e. 'Our belief is that our customers want as much display as they can, in the most comfortable form factor,' Bob Borchers, who is Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, explained to HT in a conversation, at the time. A logical next step would be to percolate this trend to more affordable mid-range phones too. Phone makers seem open to the idea. 'From both a technology and portfolio standpoint, the OnePlus 13s marks the beginning of a new chapter for compact flagships in the industry. This opens an exciting roadmap for similar compact mid-range offerings,' says OnePlus India's Liu. Counterpoint's Pathak believes the screen size choice is likely to trickle down to mid-range buyers as well. 'With brands actively launching new phones round the year, introducing compact designs in the mid-range segment could prove fruitful,' he opines. Xiaomi's Sharma insists 'smartphone design will be increasingly shaped by user context', and that compact flagships no longer remain niche. There is consensus that a wider spectrum of choice is good for consumers.

OnePlus Buds 4 review: Big on Noise Cancellation

Rating: 3.5/5 OnePlus Buds 4 has officially launched in India with a price tag of Rs 5,999. With the new earbuds, OnePlus continues its push in the budget-to-mid-range audio segment where it has steadily built a reputation over the years. The brand's earlier wireless earbuds, especially the OnePlus Buds 3 were seen as reliable options for those looking for good sound quality, decent battery life, and useful features — all without spending too much. In many ways, OnePlus managed to offer a balance between price and performance, making its earbuds a popular choice for users who wanted something better than the bare minimum but didn't want to spend a fortune. The Buds 4 arrives at a time when the competition in this price segment has only grown stronger. Brands like Realme, Oppo, and even Boat are offering feature-packed earbuds in the sub-Rs 6,000 category, with ANC, app support, and longer battery life becoming common. So naturally, the question arises — does the OnePlus Buds 4 do enough to stand out in 2025? With a familiar yet slightly updated design, support for active noise cancellation, and some new features, the Buds 4 tries to maintain OnePlus' usual formula. But as expectations continue to grow and users look for more value, the Buds 4 aims to deliver beyond brand recognition. Do the Buds 4 prove that they can hold their ground — not just because of the brand name, but because they deliver where it really matters. In this review, we find out. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like JAIN Online MBA – Empowering Future Leaders JAIN Online Learn More Undo Design At first glance, the OnePlus Buds 4 follows a familiar design approach, with an in-ear style and a compact charging case. The buds come in a polished, single-tone finish that looks neat without drawing too much attention. The earbuds are offered in two colour options – Zen Green and Storm Gray. We received the Zen Green model for our review and it looks good. OnePlus has opted for a stem-style design once again, something we've seen in their previous models too. At just 4.73 grams, the buds are really lightweight and sit comfortably in the ear for short to moderate durations. The in-ear design with silicone tips gives a snug, sealed fit for commuting or noisy environments. The case itself is small and pocket-friendly, with a clamshell-style lid that shuts securely. It weighs 40g and slides easily into your pockets without making it heavy. The case uses a gloss finish that does a decent job resisting smudges and fingerprint marks. There's a Type-C port at the bottom for charging and a pairing button inside. The case feels well-built overall, even though it sticks to basic materials. OnePlus Buds 4 Review: Flagship Sound & Gaming Performance Touch controls are located on the stem of each earbud, and they respond with a gentle tap. OnePlus has kept the design simple and functional, which works well if you prefer minimal distractions. While the design doesn't break new ground, it stays practical and consistent with what's worked before. Performance and battery life OnePlus Buds 4 are at their best when it comes to Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). We tested them in a noisy gym, where background music and clanging weights are usually hard to ignore. As soon as we switched on the High ANC mode, the earbuds managed to cut out nearly all of the surrounding sound. Whether it was chatter, loudspeaker announcements, or traffic noise, the Buds 4 filtered most of it out, allowing one to focus on the playlist. That said, the High ANC mode is just one of several options. You can choose from low, medium, high, and even an Auto mode that adjusts depending on your environment. There's also a Transparency mode, which is useful when you want to hear your surroundings while still listening to music. Another adaptive mode switches between ANC and Transparency automatically. These modes can be controlled through the HeyMelody app, though the app experience was frustrating. It often failed to detect the earbuds and required multiple steps to access basic settings, which affected the overall user experience. Talking about the sound performance, the Buds 4 clearly favour bass-heavy output. On tracks like 'Malang' or 'Genda Phool,' the bass kicks are prominent and deep. If you enjoy electronic or club music, you'll probably enjoy how punchy the lows feel. On the other hand, in softer songs like 'Raataan Lambiyan' or 'Kesariya,' vocals are sometimes overpowered by the bass, especially if you're not using a custom sound profile. That's where OnePlus' Golden Sound feature comes in. It creates a personalised sound profile based on a quick hearing test and ear scan. This helped balance the sound better for me, especially in songs with a mix of instruments like 'Shayad' or 'Tum Hi Ho.' Other audio features include 3D Audio (Spatial Audio) and a BassWave enhancer, which boosts low frequencies even more if you want that extra thump. Connectivity was strong throughout testing — the Bluetooth link stayed stable without any drops. Battery life is decent, but not great, especially if you're using all the advanced features. With ANC off, you can expect around 11 hours per charge, but switching ANC on drops that to about 6 hours. The charging case adds more juice, taking total playtime to around 24 hours with ANC on, and 45 hours without. In short, the OnePlus Buds 4 deliver strong ANC and solid bass performance, but battery life and app usability leave some room for improvement. Verdict Compared to its predecessor and other earbuds in the Rs 6,000 segment from rival brands, the OnePlus Buds 4 hold their ground mainly due to strong ANC and useful customisation features like Golden Sound. But if you're expecting a significant leap in all-round performance or app experience, the improvements here are more incremental than transformative. All in all, at Rs 5,999, the OnePlus Buds 4 offers solid value, particularly for users who prioritise bass-heavy audio and noise cancellation. The ANC performance is easily one of the strongest features, making them suitable for noisy environments. Add to that stable connectivity and a comfortable, lightweight design, and the OnePlus Buds 4 covers most of the core needs for daily listening.
