PM Salam: No justice for the Beirut Port explosion without truth and accountability

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed during a dialogue session on the aftermath of the August 4 Beirut Port explosion that there can be no settlement at the expense of justice, and that this national wound cannot heal without uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable. 'There is no reform without accountability,' Salam said. 'A state of law is built where the independence of decisions is safeguarded. A fair trial is a duty of the state and a right for the victims, and we must commit to passing the law on judicial independence.' He stressed that without justice, there is no meaning to citizenship and no purpose for the state, adding, 'Justice, even if delayed, must ultimately be achieved.'

Israel's Ben-Gvir says he prayed at Al-Aqsa mosque compound

Far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir visited the Al-Aqsa mosque compound on Sunday and said he prayed there, defying the long-standing rules governing one of the most sensitive sites in the Middle East. Under a decades-old and delicate "status quo" arrangement with Islamic authorities, the Al-Aqsa mosque is administered by a Jordanian religious body. Jews are allowed to visit the site but are not permitted to pray there. Footage published by a small Jewish group called the Temple Mount Administration showed Ben Gvir leading a group of worshippers at the site. Other videos circulating online appeared to show him praying. Reuters was unable to immediately verify the content of those other clips. Reuters

Syria's defense ministry and Kurdish-led SDF trade blame over attack in northern Syria

Syria's defense ministry and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces traded blame over an attack in the northern city of Manbij on Saturday. The incident has cast a shadow over a landmark integration deal they signed in March, aimed at cooperating on security arrangements in areas where both forces operate. The defense ministry, according to the state news agency SANA, accused the SDF of launching a rocket barrage on one of the army's outposts in the city's countryside. As a result, four troops and three civilians were injured. The ministry described the attack as irresponsible and without justification. Reuters
